That’s easy. It’s Blazing Saddles. I do lines from it all the time. Here’s several: I give you a Laural and Hardy handshake. Now somebody’s gonna have to get a shitload of dimes. Don’t move or the nig*a gets it. Think of your secretary. The whole song I’m tired. Have another snitzengruber. No baby, two snitzengruber is my limit. Ok, we’ll take the Chinks and the nig*ers, but we don’t want the Irish. Woof, they darker than we are.

American Grafitti. I saw it something like 15 times in the theater and they even let me have the poster when the run was over.

I sensed it, but never really understood what it was until I was much older.

It was an epitaph for Heritage America.

Watched it with my 15 year old- same age I was when it came out- and he loved the way the music underscored the entire narrative. It made me nostaligic, but not in the usual way. I understood what Kurt represented and the end credits where we learned everyone’s fate underscored that message.

Far more packed into that movie than you see on the surface.

Apocalypse Now Redux is a very close second, but only if you have some understanding of what warfare means to men. I think most of that movie goes way over most people’s heads.

Epitaph. I concur.
This nation died in November ’63.
