One day we were lobbing (real) quarter sticks at a fourth party and leaving craters in the lush landscaping. The ordnance wasn’t mine, nor the landscaping, but I showed the bearer of the bombs how to light the fuse, hold and then throw so that detonation occurred in the air, rather than on the ground. Problem solved. Homeowner happy.

After eating some raw chopped meat, I was taken short and had to run for a bathroom in the house. While tending to my bidness, I heard the report, followed shortly by a bang on the bathroom door announcing that I should speed things along, since the bomb bearer had just blown his hands to bits. Dummy held on for too long!!!

After years of explosive ordinance play and more years wielding chainsaws, I have no problem typing on this keyboard on account of my digits all being intact — which is more than I can say for a few fellas whose inner circles I have graced at one time or another. Then there’s the booze. Lots of fellas I influenced into becoming die hard drinkers are no more among the living. And they didn’t drink as much as I have in the past. Whatever it is the LORD has protected me and kept me around for, I hope I don’t let Him down when the time comes!!!

Say hello to Auntie.

The biggest problem is the inconsistent quality of the fuse. I was lighting and tossing the little guys that come in the 500ct. bricks around once. Everyone was fine until one never made it more than a foot of arm movement before it exploded. Felt like someone had hit my thumb and index finger with a hammer. No damage. They were both bright white from lack of blood, otherwise ok. Seriously, it was the same length of fuse as every other one and lit at just the end of the fuse.

There’s nothing more fun than helping your kid move – with the possible exception of getting kicked in the nards. Hopefully they have an elevator so you don’t die of heat stroke. As I recall, the number of times my old man helped me move was exactly … zero.

Folks around Akron OH better be filling mags. Commie porch dwellers are cooking up a riot. The PO-leeses shot a Black criminal more times than he shot at them and apparently if you is a White Po-lees there is a limit on the proper amount of return fire. Head Black commie, some “Bishop” guy tweeting that the guy was unarmed which is a lie. Hope Bishop is his name and not his title. Joey has the Dhimmicrat Militia heading for the streets to celebrate. For real fireworks it would be a real patriotic display to light up the BLM/Antifas with their own medicine. Please be creative.

Float around in the Bering Sea while my 3 kids, their spouses & 9 grandkids hang around my backyard with Mrs. Ed and BBQ while drinking the last couple of corny kegs of my American Amber…. Then none of them will brew another couple of batches for me before I get home in October, and I’ll be beerless for the first three weeks of my vacation……

Numbers 1, 4 and 5 of the top 5 longest distance sniper kills (in Iraq and in Afghanistan) have been done by Canadian snipers — the longest being 3,871 yards — 2.2 Miles …

The 2d longest was by an Aussie at 3,079 yards … 3d longest by a Brit at 2,707 yards.

US snipers don’t show up until number 6 — at 2,515 yards — 1.5 miles — which is a pretty good shot …

Finishing up replacing the PTO drive belt on a Cub Cadet GX54 riding mower. Holy smokes! What an ordeal this turned out to be. Got the belt off , finally and replaced it. Now put the mower deck back on with its new belt.

Not long ago I replaced the PTO drive belt on a Husqvarna RZ5426. It was not so complicated. Remove the clutch and it was a snap. The Cub Cadet in order to get the belt off one has to loosen the four bolts bolting the engine to the frame in order to slide the engine just enough, side to side and back in order to get enough clearance from the protective “tabs” that prevent the belt from jumping off the drive pully. Of course the drive clutch has to come off before that but that is easy. Good mower but I will never purchase another Cub after going through this ordeal. I called a shop just for grins and asked how much labor would cost to replace that drive belt, $90 labor, I have the belt, a one hour job. I spent 3 hrs. on this PTO drive belt! $90 does not sound bad just to avoid the aggravation but loading the mower on my small trailer and hauling it 50 miles to that dealer…it’s all good now.

I should be receiving a new ignition switch in mail today for the RZ5426, a zero turn mower and highly recommended if trying to avoid spending a fortune on a zero mower. A guy in the part time mowing business did some mowing for me a few times with a Gravely or Grasshopper zero turn , I forget, but paid well over $8000 at the time. He recommended the Husqvarna that turned out to be a good choice for our needs anyway. This said, the weekend will entail some catch up mowing although so little rain recently a lot of grass is brown and has not grown a lot. We had a nice rain yesterday, 1/10″, not much but very welcome. I’ll be watching for “smoke signals” as I usually do during any fireworks season as we have been under a burn ban for some time and there is always some moron that manages to accidentally start a fire with the fireworks. We are surrounded by forest and one never knows something like Paradise , CA could happen here. Other than watching for smoke the garden gets a planting of Zipper cream peas over the weekend. No special plans, church on Sunday.

Oh, and giving thanks that dude in the first pic, although funny, is not me! It’s indicative of what is typically seen at Wal Marts around here without the machine gun ( I hope). Nothing against machine guns.

I replaced the belt on a treadmill I got a steal on, and I thought that was a bad enough belt job, but I was wrong. I did replace my PTO seal, pretty simple job once I figured out the details not in any manual, but the $9 part cost $300 to put in, because there was no saving that tranny/hydraulic fluid, that should have been replaced during the break job.

Our deluge of spring rain and complete dearth of summer rain allowed my mowing to do about 2 or 3 years worth of pasture management goodness. I have never sweated so much driving a tractor. I don’t think many of them sweetgums, sumacs, or large noxious weeds are ever coming back.

We are looking at doing a controlled burn on most of the place in late Aug or early Sept. We took some free classes and got to do a 15 acre practice burn.

No special plans, I will try for church on Sunday.

I’ll be chopping weeds in the 5 acres of beans and winter squash fields (only about 20% of the squash are left), the deer have eaten about 15% of my beans, and drought has stunted the rest. Mainly the coffee bean weeds are the problem; they are getting so big that it is easier to use tree trimmers at the base on the big ones than the hoe. We are in a prolonged drought with no rain in sight and this crop of beans might be a bust if we don’t get rain in a week or so; and it may be too late to plow and plant another crop this year. ..I am expecting the real insurrectionist to attack crowds and set fires; if y’all catch’em in the act, you ought to treat them like Taliban. Vaya con Dios. Happy 4th.

You’re in Georgia? No one really “farms” around here, NE Texas, not that I see anyway. Folks garden and some have sizable ones, maybe 1/2 acre with some exceptions larger, watermelon patches of sizable acreage.

Some folks still bale hay, bahiagrass mostly, a little bit of coastal bermuda but that is work, fertilizing bermuda. Some folks lime their pastures but with the decline in cattle raising around here I think most peeps just wait for their ship to come in so they can sell their acreage high dollar to someone from outside Texas.

When it gets hot gardening is a challenge for me anyway. Generally watermelon does not seem to be impacted so much. I’ve got gobs of deer around here but , small scale, about 10 acres in pine trees, six acres living quarters including pond and small gardens , I think my cat may scare the deer. He’s just a small domestic outdoor dude with no nuts. 🙂

I would love to go to HSF’s shindig. I’m only about 1 hour 45 minutes away. However our traditional 4th of July celebration has been taking place uninterrupted for about 60 years. I and my children are now the keepers of the flame.
I will be poolside with my 4 kids, 9 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and other family and friends. Typically, 60-75 stop by either for just an hour or two or the whole day. We have every imaginable pool, patio, and outdoor game along with plenty of food and drink.
The traditional egg toss at the end has room for about 36 egg tossers, 1 on each side. Usually won by me and a partner I’ve carefully selected.

Pretty tame weekend here…. Spending time with friends with steaks and corn on the grill, steaming clams and smoking salmon filets on Sunday. Might as well enjoy it before the all-cricket diet is what we’re reduced to
