French national road race [cycling] and time trial champion Audrey Cordon-Ragot, who raced in the first edition of the revamped Tour de France Femmes in July, suffered a stroke last weekend. The 32-year-old Trek-Segafredo rider revealed the news in a social media post today, writing that she requires an operation to address the heart condition behind last Sunday’s stroke – which occurred just a week after she finished second overall and won a stage of the Simac Ladies Tour in the Netherlands. Earlier this week Cordon-Ragot dropped out of France’s elite women’s squad for the upcoming UCI road world championships simply citing medical reasons, but she has now confirmed that she was diagnosed after an MRI scan confirmed the fears of the French team’s medical staff.
“Life always has surprises in store for you and this week more than ever, I learned that it is far more important than anything else,” she posted on Instagram and Twitter. “My non-presence at the next world championships, which many people claimed was down to a whim, fear of losing, lack of respect for the French team… and so on, is due to a stroke, of which I was a victim last Sunday. Not detected right away, I was lucky (yes, I say lucky) to be surrounded by medical staff (thank you Gwenaëlle Madouas, Maryline Salvetat and Mathieu Le Strat) who strongly advised me to carry out an MRI which surely saved my life.”
She continued: “Difficult to explain how I feel, I am exhausted, drained, sad, but at the same time so grateful and happy to have been able to return home to my loved ones. My season is therefore over, as you can guess (some will say that I am a crier and a sissy, for all these people refrain from commenting!). I will observe a period of rest and undergo an operation to resolve the cardiac problem at the origin of my accident.”
Before last weekend’s health scare, 2022 was arguably the most successful season of Cordon-Ragot’s 15-year professional career. In June, she won her sixth French time trial title and second national road race title, which saw her wear the famous Tricolore jersey at the following month’s inaugural Tour de France Femmes. In early August, she beat British rider Pfeiffer Georgi to win the Postnord Vårgårda WestSweden, before taking the time trial stage and finishing second overall behind Lorena Wiebes at the Simac Ladies Tour two weeks ago.
Stokes are thankfully rare among professional cyclists but have happened in the past. In 2014, Yerlan Pernebekov, a former Asian junior road champion and member of Astana’s UCI Continental development squad, died after suffering a stroke at the age of 19.

A driver feels ill at the wheel and seriously injures an 11-year-old girl in a bus shelter: her life is in danger

This Friday morning shortly after 7:30 a.m., the driver of a car fell ill on rue François Cornet in Awans and deviated from his trajectory. The driver of the car following him also deviated from his trajectory but managed to avoid him. The driver’s car ended up in a bus shelter where there was a mother from Awans and her 11-year-old daughter. Sad accident outcome. Rear-end collision on the A7: high property damage, Chihuahua killed

On Thursday afternoon, a car with a trailer hit another car, also with a trailer, on the A7 near Altenstadt. No one was injured, but a dog was killed. According to the police, both teams drove in the right lane in the direction of Würzburg. Autobahn 24 Fehrbellin and Kremmen completely closed due to an accident

At around 7 a.m. there was an accident on the federal autobahn 24 between the Fehrbellin and Kremmen junctions with one injured person. As the responsible police directorate also announced, a car with a Danish transfer number plate first drove against several construction site markings, then against the central barrier and then probably against a truck. The fire brigade had to free the trapped driver of the small car (the door could no longer be opened). A 75-year-old driver is driving in Thiersheim on Tuesday. It then happens in Gartenstrasse. Around 4 p.m., the 58-year-old from the Southeast Styria district entered Austria at a border crossing from Slovenia. At the immigration check, a police officer from the Halbenrain Police Inspectorate noticed the poor health of the driver. The police officers present initiated the rescue chain and applied first aid measures. The 58-year-old was transported by the on-site emergency doctor. The woman was transferred to the Graz State Hospital by the C 12 emergency medical helicopter. Her current state of health is unknown.

He went back to the stage and continued the set. Blanco continued and thanked the audience for their patience. After the joy of seeing Blanco again on stage, back in strength, many began to wonder what had happened and the reason for the illness. Fans on social media have begun to evaluate possible hypotheses. There are those who attribute it all to too many work commitments for a boy of only 19, those who think it can only be performance anxiety and those who instead download the blame to the stress of the last period. Busy morning and early afternoon hours today for Sores Fvg personnel who coordinated numerous interventions. Around 1 p.m., in Lignano, a 40-year-old man who was walking along the waterfront was seized with a cardiac arrest. He was immediately reached by medical responders, stabilized and transported in a code red to Udine’s Santa Maria della Misericordia hospital by ambulance.
Also in Lignano, at a sporting event, a spectator, a 48-year-old man who was watching the event, also suffered a cardiac arrest. Immediately rescued by Sogit personnel, who were on site for the event, he was promptly stabilized and transported to the emergency department of Pordenone Hospital in code red. The immediacy and appropriateness of the rescues, coordinated by Sores Fvg, made it possible to provide the best care for the two people caught in serious illness.
A third intervention was handled in the mountains, in the Alto Friuli area, for a sudden illness occurred to a person: the helicopter and the ambulance from Chiusaforte were involved. The person was transported to Tolmezzo hospital.

Illness in the field: rescue with the defibrillator

The sudden illness of a 25-year-old from Cadè, helped by the readiness of friends who used the defibrillator of the sports facility, aroused deep emotion in the hamlet, still with bated breath: the young man is now hospitalized in the reanimation ward of Santa Maria Nuovo. The episode dates back to Monday evening, at 9 pm, when a group of about fifteen friends from the hamlet met at the football fields in the park. “We are all young people from the village, many of us among other things volunteer at the sports center to keep it clean and tidy,” explains a friend who was present that evening. “On the program there was the classic informal match between friends. We intend to form a team; in the meantime, in these days, we get together to start getting back in shape”.
The 25-year-old had stopped playing for a few years and, intending to return to kicking the ball, joined the evening. The unpredictable, however, happened before the match even started. “We were warming up. We had just taken a short run: two laps of the field and a few exercises,” continues the friend. “At that moment he was not making any effort, on the contrary he stopped for a moment to put on the shoes with spikes when suddenly he collapsed to the ground“.
Friends immediately understood the gravity of the situation. “While someone was calling 118, some tried heart massage and others went to retrieve the defibrillator from the sports field, which we then used.” A maneuver later praised by the medical and ambulance health workers who arrived shortly after on the spot. “The doctor told us that our intervention was a blessing.” The sedated patient was transferred to the emergency room of Santa Maria Nuova, where he is still watched over by his sister and parents. “The family members told us that the next few hours will be decisive in knowing if he will be out of danger: the doctors will soon try to wake him up,” continues the friend. “The incident shocked us and left everyone in our company bewildered. He is a big boy with a great physique, in excellent health, when we run he is always the first: he really was a bolt from the blue“.

A cyclist from Gaiarine, taken ill while returning from a rally, was saved late today, Sunday 18 September, in Sacile. The man, 58, was with a friend and was returning home. At the height of Polcenigo he began to feel some discomfort, when he reached Via Villorba in Sacile he fell off his bicycle and lost consciousness. The cyclist showed no signs of life. His friend gave him first aid and alerted 112. The regional rescue operations room sent an ambulance and a self-medical to the scene with an anesthetist on board. The man was in cardiac arrest. He was resuscitated on the spot and rushed to the hospital in Pordenone, where he is under observation. A crew of the Carabinieri of Fontanafredda also intervened in via Villorba.
