SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

WAGNER – Das Rheingold / OAOE / Sir Simon Rattle – Baden Baden, 2004

A rather long piece, but it’s Wagner who wrote a lot of them. The ring cycle is 18 hours long…

Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment

Sir Simon Rattle

Baden-Baden, 2004

The Next Two Come To Us Thanks To ursel doran.

2CELLOS – Vivaldi Storm

Something very different here.

2CELLOS – Whole Lotta Love vs. Beethoven 5th Symphony

One more from Hauser & friend. Killing the two cellos!!

Most entertaining!

nkit sent me the following four offerings for this Sunday on Monday last with the following…

“Steve, I’m staring down Ian… Here are a few pieces for next Sunday… I expect no power for 7 days or longer…”

I haven’t heard from him since.

So if I don’t get anything from him for next week, I’ll simply re-use one of his previously posted selections like I did for the last few weeks with Austrian Peter.

nkits selections are always wonderful so I don’t think anyone will mind seeing one of his old selections or two again.

Say a prayer for nkit. He’s such a good guy…

Steve C.

André Rieu – Ballade pour Adeline

André Rieu & The Johann Strauss Orchestra performing “Ballade pour Adeline” live in Vienna.

Taken from André Rieu’s breathtaking live spectacle on DVD and Blu-ray “André Rieu – And the waltz goes on” featuring Sir. Anthony Hopkins’ Waltz.

Morricone conducts Morricone: The Mission (Gabriel’s Oboe)

Live recording at the Philharmonie im Gasteig, 20 October 2004,

The Mission’s main theme performed by Munchen Radio Orchestra under the direction of Morricone himself and recorded by Giovanni Morricone.

Morricone received the Academy Honorary Award in 2007 “for his magnificent and multifaceted contributions to the art of film music.” He also received 5 Oscar nominations and he won 3 Grammy Awards, 2 Golden Globes as well as numerous other awards, which are too many to mention.

A composer of music for the cinema, whose music was an element in itself.

FSO – Titanic – “Suite” (James Horner)

Who hasn’t felt a lump in their throat upon hearing Suite from Titanic composed by the legendary James Horner?

This is how the Oscar-winning soundtrack sounded during last year’s FSO Tour.

Gustav Mahler: Adagietto for Strings and Harp

And finally…

Odysseus North Texas Chamber Orchestra

Jason Lim, Conductor

“Pray for us… Ian… is coming up our arse… yeah, I know… bless our little hearts…” – nkit

Wagner: “Tannhäuser” Overture / Claudio Abbado – Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (1998)

Another Wagner piece albeit a whole lot shorter than the first.

I figured what the hell since we are on him already.

Claudio Abbado, conductor

Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra

Recorded live in Salzburg, 1998

The Classic Music Mafia – Adding some class to this joint one Sunday at a time.

Heaven help us…

Your gentlemen’s efforts for all your great work here are much appreciated. A few more for you.

Singing for a change instead of just orchestra works.

And for the finale, 18 minutes of Pavarotti!!!

So good I just had to throw it in. Flash mob great job on the 1812 overture!

Brilliant Steve C and nkit – thank you and well done and I have it playing as I battle to get the critical information out there:

““Music speaks the language of the soul, penetrating into the past and resonating into the future, unearthing pain and tenderness and sorrow and joy, reminding us of our infinite fragility and extraordinary strength, reigniting our dreams and passions once again to remind us of who we are meant to be.”

May you go well to bring an aura of peace and serenity to our troubled TBP family! 🙂

That’s where I’m going as soon as I can – SOUTH – it’s my song of escape!!

Steve C. Thank you once again. Wagner was such a treat.

Nkit, my prayers are with you. Hope you are safe, dear.

Ursel – I subscribe to Hauser. Love him in my inbox. Thank you for reminiscent posts when he was part of 2cellos. Love the battle.
