It’s a Tex-Mex thing, the breakfast taco. First time I had one was on the banks of Lake Conroe as we were building-out the last bits of a golf course, Del Lago. One morning, while I was eating my sugary breakfast doughnut, I smelled the most lovely roast chicken and potatoes I had ever smelled. The wetbacks I was working with immediately offered a large white corn tortilla with chicken and onion and peppers and, well, it sure was a helluva lot better than any doughnut!
No Tex-Mex restaurants here on the West side of the Valley in Peoria. Just make my own now.

I miss Aunt Jemima buckwheat pancake mix, I’ve tried to grind and mix my own but they had a great recipe I haven’t been able to match.
A few years back I bought a few cases of long term storage butter, just in case, paid about $3.00 a pound, wish I bought more.
Publix used to have Butter BOGOs every couple of weeks various brands, not in a long time, except for the it ain’t butter brand.
Looking like it’s going to be back to margarine, haven’t had to get it since I was a kid.
Also, the 64 ounce, One gallon Florida Natural OJ is now 52 ounces, but the same price so there’s that.

I was a War Baby (WWII). We didn’t eat real butter. We ate Oleo. We put on everything from toast to pancakes. This horrible tasting crap came in a package with a cake of white pig fat lard and a packet of yellow coloring. Mom would put both in a bowl and whip it up with a spoon until it all turned yellow.
There’s some mention here on this forum of some going back to margarine. Well, margarine in made from plastic and I ate enough of that poison as a teenager … no thanks! After eating enough pig fat with yellow food coloring and plastic I’m sticking to real butter.
I didn’t make a bunch of ghee like I was going to awhile back OR pick up a bunch of local pig fat (only $2/lb who knows how much now and they run low during hunting season, though I’m going to try this week) this past season to make lard, darn it. Really fell down there though we had our fruit harvest and it was only our second year (down by 2/3 because of spring weather) so always hectic but should’ve done it. Some normalacy bias showing.
However do have a Hutterite turkey on order. Their chickens are scarce because they supposedly (they are pretty Wiley) had to kill a bunch during the fake bird flu.

My wife and I use a LOT of butter. We used to prefer Land O Lakes, even when it was bit more, just because it had a pretty carton. Since they took away the Indian maiden, we NEVER buy Land O’ Lakes anymore.
