Bidenomics in Action

Guest Post by Jim Kunstler

“We are at an inflection point, a threshold, where weak, brittle, effete personality structures are a threat to human civilization.” JD Haltigan

If you’re troubled at all about the state of our country, and even your own small role in it, you might be asking yourself whether the people running things have any idea what they’re doing. Some of these doings happen in the metaphysical realm of finance, for instance America’s national debt ($34-trillion and going up like mad), and the death of the US dollar, along with the bonds that underwrite it. Or the game of hide-the-salami with the repo and reverse repo markets played between the Federal Reserve and the US Treasury to give the broken banking system the appearance of stability when it is actually in deepening ruin.

Did you understand any of that? Probably not, but not because you’re dumb. It’s because all that action is meant to be incomprehensible even to people who went to grad school. The news media only amplify the mystification. The net effect is that increasingly nothing in the life of our nation is real. Every action taken is a swindle of one kind or another, a cavalcade of switcheroos aimed at zeroing out the consensus about reality.

What trickles down from all this cosmic activity is the dwindling possibility of a fruitful life for most Americans. You cannot make a living. You can’t fix all the machines in your life or get new ones. You can’t get married because there’s no way you can fulfill your end of the contract. You search in vain for something purposeful to do. You are eventually faced with the choice: surrender to depression and hopelessness, or revolt against a ruling blob that is only good at one thing: depriving you of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

What also trickles down from on-high is the increasing dysfunction of all the systems that evolved to serve American life on-the-ground. For instance, the supply chains that stuff the gigantic merchandise marts from sea to shining sea. The trucking industry is falling apart. The industry can’t find enough workers to load the trucks. They call them “lumpers” in the trucking biz. United Parcel Service (UPS) is hurting so badly for lumpers that they now make the drivers load and unload the brown trucks and have to pay them double overtime for it. The fruit and vegetables that have to make a truck journey thousands of miles from the sunshine lands to the icy north sit rotting in the warehouses because there aren’t enough lumpers on the loading docks — in case you’ve noticed that the produce in your supermarket is looking wilty and gross.

All the systems that move stuff around this big country are wobbling. Many trucking and logistics companies went out of business in 2023, led by Convoy’s bankruptcy in October due to a “an unprecedented freight market collapse” and inability to get financing. UPS has not recovered from the big drop in shipping that followed the end of Covid lockdowns — 1.2-million packages per day in lost volume — nor adjusted to its new contract with the Teamsters Union, a 46 percent cost increase for drivers in the first year. UPS CEO Carol Tomé even took a pay cut: $19 million this year, down from $26 million (including stock packages) in 2021. Federal Express also saw a sharp drop in package deliveries and in September yanked its full-year profit guidance. The FedEx share price dropped 20 percent in one day. Consider, too, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations aimed at a “zero carbon emissions” goal in 2035, legislation guaranteed to first paralyze and then kill trucking in that state, including trucks delivering into and out of California. Good luck with that.

Then there is the good US Postal Service, a crypto-public/private corporation cobbled together back in the 1970s supposedly because mail delivery was losing money. While our Constitution stipulates that the government “establish post offices and post roads” with the implied authority to carry and deliver the mail,” the Constitution never said that the post office had to show a profit any more than the Army or the Navy does. These days it looks like our country is just about done with the mail business. Been to your local post office lately? Ours is looking like an old soviet DMV. . . a few part-timers on duty. . . mail delivered when they feel like it. . . an odor of rot in the building. . . . Consider that the post office is one of the few places where we citizens actually interface directly with the government’s workings. So, how does it look like it’s working to you?

Christmas, 2023, will be a test of how all these crumbling services and wobbling business models are affecting the people who live in the outfit known as the USA. Initial reports of empty Walmarts and maxed-out credit cards don’t paint a pretty picture. The Yuletide potlatch will not look like it used to. At some point, the activity on-the-ground — or eerie absence of activity — might ordinarily be expressed in the stock indexes — but these strange days the markets seem to be hostages of some algorithm cult that operates in a mystical vacuum where nothing matters. When it gets to the point where famished Americans start eating each other to stay alive, will we see another S & P record high?

And so should anybody with a brain who believes that GENERALLY, well with 99.99% accuracy anyway, humans and nearly all creatures under Gods domain are born male and female. Even if you are Atheist that holds true. Unless like Winston Smith you believe 2+2=5.

I’ve not had any issues with SurePost . I’ve seen some gal just glancing at her through the PO delivery truck windshield that appears to be covered from head to at least her arms in tattoos. Hell, I don’t know who she is or what kind of faggotry she may be into.

This is what you do, get a fucking P.O. Box. I made the switch during Trumps “covid” lockdown because there was a rash of mailbox theft in the area. Kids were locked out of schools so who knows for sure the thieves were bored kids? Never had anything stolen. One time I happened to notice some fucking envelopes down the road and low and behold it was junk mail addressed to me.

I’m sure things are different in congested nigger land and all. As far as the rural service here, a P.O. box and those that work the area do a damned good job. I order from Amazon and between UPS and SurePost absolutely NO ISSUES. The shit is at the Post Office when tracking says it is.

Change all billing and shipping addresses to the fucking P.O. Box and relax. 36 bucks for six months and well worth the peace of mind.

Yes, the Javelin/AMX was the sport version after they dropped the 2-seat AMX in 1970. I had a 1971 Javelin/AMX, a 1972 Javelin SST (both with 360 c.i. engines), and a 1973 Javelin/AMX 401 c.i.

1974 was the last year for the Javelin and Javelin/AMX, and you could not get the 401 in 1974.

This was my 1971 Javelin/AMX which is in the Wikipedia article. I sold it in 2014 and now have a 2023 Corvette Stingray.

No, 1974 was the last year for the AMC Javelin AMX. The ’68-’70 AMC AMX was the only 2 seat American sports car other than a Chevrolet Corvette. For the 1971 model year, AMC changed the body style which ran until 1974. FYI, Team Penske won the SCCA Trans Am championship with a 1971 AMX. With pony cars becoming less popular, sales weren’t all that great and AMC couldn’t or didn’t have the monetary funds to spend on a car with plummeting sales. Instead, AMC focused their resources on development of economy automobiles; Gremlin, Hornet and Pacer.
Less many people forget, 1973 was the year of the Arab oil embargo.

Honestly FedEx is the only carrier I’ve had issues. They pretty much suck here. I’m in a rural area and I’ve notified UPS where to leave a package when my gate is closed which is just about all the time. Notified FedEx too. UPS drivers have never had an issue with depositing a package where I informed them if the fucking gate is closed. FedEx left a $800 Mini Mac computer on the fucking gate a few years ago. Damn! Hanging on the gate. There are maggot thieves around these parts. Fortunately when arriving home after dark the computer was still hanging on the gate. My wife had a very controlled conversation with FedEx. It was her computer! But Fedex still does stupid shit. Thankfully I don’t get but few deliveries from those guys. Here are the instructions for xxx Rural Road, please place the package in this trash cart that is just inside the fence in the event the gate is closed…not , hang the package on the gate. Perhaps? Supper markets will realize they are an anchor business and adopt a monthly charge to shop there. Which in turn will be paid up the line to distributers to guarantee delivery. (out compete other stores for limited food supplies) Since high crime areas are going the way of Chicago to have government stores anyway, and would certainly deter crime at your store if you had to be a member, I’d be all for it.

The $34 Tril debt will be $37 T by Election Day and $50t in the blink of an eye. It’s going parabolic and it will be a disaster. Still, the variety and quality of fresh produce at Whole Foods is truly remarkable. The only thing I buy there is greens – kale, romaine, beets with the greens. Max I spend there is $10. California and their zero emissions crap will crash into reality and reality will win. All of their deadlines will be extended. The overall economy is impossible to comprehend. Old-fashioned crashes are not allowed. Everything in the US is lies that we’re all supposed to pretend to believe: men can become women. We can run an industrial economy on solar and windmills. This was the wrong device my internet provider had sent. No problem. The bitch at the UPS store said “that will be 50 cents”. I asked , “for you putting the label on the package?” This world is totally fucked up! She said ,”you can’t buy anything for 50 cents.” I’m thinking what is your point on this and told her I damned sure can, I can buy a small bag of Lays original potato chips at wall marts for 49 cents turnkey. Its also been a while since I mailed anything, but I used to receive, by mail, yearly proxy vote forms from each one of the numerous stocks I hold and each one arrived with a pre-paid envelope to mail back your vote. I can unload trucks around here all day. Multiple warehouse/manufacturing companies advertising job openings. The rate is $14-$18/hr. Must be flexible to work shift work, overtime, and weekends.

The job adverts have run constantly since I moved here 1.5 years ago. One major international mfg company had rented a billboard on the main highway advertising these semi-skilled manufacturing jobs at $15.95/hr or somesuch.

I made $14/Hr in 1992 as a 19y/o union seasonal for a large county fire dept. Little did I know that would be the best trajectory, had I gone the full regular route. I be retired by now with a full pension and could spend all day yelling at kids to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and stop complaining.

My rural PO does not have a mail meter. They just sell you stamps and tell you to get lickin. I still give our rural carriers fresh eggs and a smile. They give me most of my mail and a lot of the previous owners mail as well. No extra charge. They bring milkbones for my pup too. Chat about the weather. Thats probably as good as it gets these days.

The older grumpy lady who runs the branch (I guess) said that they basically work for amazon now. Amazon sets all the terms. The employees/handlers are expected to just suck it up. They are hiring too. But you will need to use your own vehicle.

Pretty sure the USPS pension is legally required to prefund their obligations 50 years forward. They may be the only part of fedgov that has that requirement. Hence the constant financial woes and the $0.60 stamps. Reality is expensive. And boring.

The long march included the financialization of everything. Derivatives and middlemen. Sometime soon all of the brokers, advisors, consultants, analysts, agents, and solicitors are going to log into that zoom meeting with the “client” and will just see a dog in a burning room. “This is fine”, he says.

The saddest part is that dog will never get to find out the eternal question: who’s a good boy?

There’s my contribution to the derivative bubble. Lets hope for straws on camels.

My rural PO is wonderful. Before I started closing my gate almost all the time because of a unconcerned neighbor’s cows that constantly go loose, the rural carrier would make the trek up my drive, about 1200 feet and deliver packages too large for the mailbox. I found a Sanford and Son LARGE mailbox and sanded, primed and painted it, an “antique”, so the carrier could leave boxes most of the time and not have to do that drive. Yes , I think about others sometimes. In Fort Worth , Texas, are you kidding? They would not get out of their vehicles, just leave a slip in the mailbox you had a package at the Post Office! All that came to an end though in this rural area during Trump’s lockdowns, the school kids we assume stealing mail, bored and locked out of school. So, I just got a fucking PO Box and it’s worked wonderfully. We drive past our PO on the way to the big town for shopping groceries so not so much of a hassle. It sure was nice and refreshing though there was still some civility and courtesy in this country when the mail carrier would drive up to the house for a package delivery.

The only things they can’t seem to get right is every single thing that benefits the American people, but if it benefits them, from the hundreds of millions they manage to accrue on government salaries to the jobs they are endlessly promoted and locked into no matter what they do, they are as competent and successful as anyone has ever been.

Most of the people I grew up with (I was born in 1950) had jobs while they were in high school. The guys anyway, almost always because nobody would just give them money. It was a highly useful learning experience. Many of them wasted all of what they earned, but some saved, usually for college, because they couldn’t always count on getting any help. Nobody had lots and lots of expensive toys. Until I got out of college, I didn’t even have many cheap toys. I did have a motorcycle, which broke a lot (1970 Ducati 450 Mark III Desmo) and sometimes sat waiting for me to afford things like new tires, or repair parts.
Lots of us lived in cheap shoddy apartments or rented a trailer to share 4 ways, then did all our own cooking using cheap food (not always).

i would say, everybody needs to spend less and try to get out of debt. I suspect the plan for many of the latest generations is to declare bankruptcy. It’s not a good plan. Maybe they just refuse to think about the future. World leaders are constantly sending messages about the end of the earth and a potential WWIII (And everybody is building more nukes, and not power plants.) It makes it hard to justify saving anything. Might as well party and gather lots of fancy toys and fine material possessions while you can, take cruises, fly all over the world. Yippeee

Kids now days simply don’t get it. ’53 vintage, I walked to school five miles in the snow and rode my bicycle ten miles to school in good weather conditions. Hated riding the bus. That was Bedford , Texas , city limit sign in the 60’s read , Population 750. The kids on that bus were just meaner than hell.

The destruction is intentional. There are multiple means used. COVID was one of them. From the second world war on, the intent has been the destruction of the USA by the people who run the world. Whomever they are.

Well walter, the communists have always wanted to destroy America, because it’s the home of “capitalism” which Marx, in his vast ignorance of reality and real economics thought was the root of all evil.
What he called “capitalism” was the European model of mercantilism/crony capitalism, and he was correct that it is an unjust and inefficient system.

Free markets under a rule of law protecting lives and property without regard to social station or wealth is what made America work so well for so long. Knowing you will get to keep the great majority of what you earn or create is a great motivator. People worked hard, not only because they had to, but because they saw it as a path to a better future.

Those WEF clowns and anyone that has ever rubbed elbows with them “should” be a concern for American peeps but I suppose not.

They are a concern only because our government follows along where they lead. The real concern is the people who make our laws, Congress.

A salute to ‘BB’, a former, a commenter and participant of some days now past here. BB was a Fed-Ex driver.
RIP, BB.

Machinist. I never got the impression he was FedEx. I don’t think he would fit in such a system.

Ben,
BB had some his ideas to be sure. He was often called the village idiot, but he always came back swinging. As I recall, he had to own the Fed-Ex truck, was responsible for the maintenance, included having it painted in Fed-EX colors. If I remember BB had to bid on the route he desired. BB had a traveling pet. It was a cat BB called ‘little bb’. In many ways, BB was self-employed. Admin would probably remember better than I.

Here in Northern Virginia in the shadow of Mordor on the Potomac, life is busy and stores are full of Chinese goodies. No problem getting fresh fish/veggies/meat. But inflation rages. Gas is $3.25/gal for regular.

My son bought a house for $670k in June and Zillow shows it’s value is >$700k already. Blackrock is keeping the RE market alive and well because they buy up homes to rent as soon as they hit the market.

Wal-mart is packed with our southern border cross-overs. Do they really get $2,200, a phone, and free medical?

I just paid $50 for my wife’s Qvar prescription inhaler medication and it turns my stomach to see illegals getting free stuff.

No pun, I guess it matters not so much anymore but I do “hope” peeps from areas such as yours leave all that shit behind when they migrate to Texas.

Funny I saw a Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid at the wal marts this evening. On the back of the vehicle was the wording “Oregon Girl”. Hum, oh , and several other stickers like “in” stuff one might expect from Oregon. I could not make out what they meant but the vehicle did have FJB sticker.

I wanted to speak with the girl and find out what part of Oregon as I know people that are still out there. I don’t run across people from Oregon in these parts, California, Arizona, New York, yes , but not Oregon.

Now the vehicle did have Texas license plates. Been here a while I suppose. Anyway the girl did make it out to the Hybrid just as I was leaving but being as how it was already dark with daylight savings time I refrained from talking with her. Some older man asking where in Oregon she hailed , totally with nothing sexual on his mind , but after dark could have freaked her out. She was very nice looking though.

It’d be great to start seeing articles etc that start accepting the reality that the DOW has very little to do with the United States economy anymore.
Too often the disparity is accepted leading to confusion.

The DOW and S&P are totally controlled with our trillions in taxpayer funded monopoly money debt. What a slap in the face. Current and future taxpayers are paying off woke Corps when US Govt via CBs purchase the market directly. For our own demise. Stocks now have zero to do with the health of ind. Companies or our economy. Zero. All to keep them in line.

The answer is move our ind. and retirement acct stock investments – almost all mutual and index funds – into cash and MM funds. That’s the only way to slow or stop our demise. Crash it all. I am writing an article on that now, but you can start early.

BTW. Last night Gold was up over $35. Misbehaving badly. So what happened? The JP Morgans of the
world shorted big. Today it closed down over $80. When you have our trillions to play with you can do anything you want. But its soon game over as we will head towards hyperinflation which will be off with their heads.

The trucking industry is falling apart. The industry can’t find enough workers to load the trucks. They call them “lumpers” in the trucking biz. United Parcel Service (UPS) is hurting so badly for lumpers that they now make the drivers load and unload the brown trucks and have to pay them double overtime for it

Jimbo, pull your head out your ass. “All these illegals” , give ’em green cards and they will load those fucking trucks. AND this is exactly what will take place should tRump be given the job. He touts “deportation”. Blowing smoke. Who the fuck is going to load the trucks?

I predict another huge amnesty with a tRump. And the people will yell, yea!
