I do not have a unlimited ton captains license but was not that ship moving way too fast for that area?

I say happened during morning commute/rush would have been even worse.

A certified US harbor pilot is assisgned before any ship passes under the Key bridge inbound and is relieved outbound. A USCG certified pilot should have been in command of that ship when it hit the bridge. Let’s hear from this man/woman completely responsible for that ship before we go any further….unless he/she is a DEI hire…In that case, the whole catastrophe will be swept away never to be heard from again.

Let’s hear from him/her/they/them….

They say 6-8 knots in main channel. Tugs had left. Local pilot in charge. Local ship repair guy called in to news said it was having power failures in port and was unseaworthy.

They said the ship lost power. So it’s forward momentum would have been impossible to stop, probably hard or impossible to steer depending on the steering mechanics.
They also said the ship warned they had no power, but not how far ahead of the hit? If just minutes there was no time. Was the Captain piloting the ship? The harbor master? Or was a helmsman still at the helm? What powered the ship, coal? Oil? Boilers? Turbines? There will be a lot of lawsuits from builders to operators to the State.

Large vessels like these run on bunker fuel. Its like tar and has to be heated to be injected into the engine. These ships engines need a kicker to get the main engine running. Its not as simple as starting your cars motor by turning a key.

Kickers and the electrical generators run on diesel fuel which is odd why the electrical gens weren’t running while transiting or at harbor. These vessels are stuffed full with electronics and an electrical failure means disaster in inner waters, oceanic not so much.

The harbor pilot is responsible for safe nav in harbor waters. Both Captain and pilot are supposed to be on the bridge when entering or leaving the harbor waters. Here in canukistan anyway. There is always supposed to be a helmsman and the helm today amounts to a joystick or a tiny wheel, all electronic.

The only time a helmsman isn’t needed is when the two people on the bridge are making out instead of looking out. Queen of the North. When I took my marine ops courses all the instructors were captains at one time. Heard a few stories that would raise your eyebrows.

Bunker fuel (#6 fuel oil) is heated to pump and atomized with steam on a hot start and air until steam is available. I burnt #6 for a decade before environmental regs forced us to #2. A short outage shouldn’t be a problem restarting unless you have flame scanner or ignitor problems. Flame scammers problems would be more likely.

Or it could just be an accident. Vessels flagged under countries known to be Flags of Convenience are pretty much always vessels that are very poorly maintained and ready to be scrapped. Very often crewed by foreign nationals like India, Philippian, chineese, etc etc. Hence a shore mechanic stating it wasn’t sea worthy.

I agree with Ray. Looks like the captain went full reverse, thick black smoke. Whats weird too is that when main engine went down all electrical was lost. These vessels have, usually, two large diesel gens for running electricals when in port.

Imo, it was just an ‘accident’ which shows just how vulnerable infrastructure, like OLD, all metal bridges, really are. Take out one support column and it all comes down. Not that govt cares a lick.

And…to further your point, it won’t be rebuilt, there’s not enough time before the US collapses. It took five years to build originally, and that was after years of planning, design and site prep. Add in the time to remove the fallen bridge, from a busy ship channel, many months at least. It would be ten years before a new bridge could be built, longer since they would probably chose the general contractor based on diversity, not competence. The FUSA doesn’t have ten years.

“How does this even happen?” How does this not happen more often? We have a complex society with innumerable moving parts. The average IQ in the US is a little below 100. And a shipping crew from India? Probably about 86. This is way too inconsequential to have been a coordinated attack. When the I-35W bridge collapsed here in Minneapolis in 2007 it turned out to have just been crappy engineering in 1967. The steel plates holding the joints together were woefully too thin. Add 40 years of weathering and layering new surfaces onto it. Shit happens.

Lots of cables and pipes on big bridges. Lots of lights, warning lights for aircraft, channel marker lights, navigation lights, and especially lights for illuminating the roadway. That means lots of amps and lots of gigantic sparks when the magnetic field back-feeds as the cables break. Any sudden break in the power cables will become an explosion.

Ship collisions raise specter of Chinese electronic warfare

By BILL GERTZ
AUGUST 29, 2017
China has developed some of the world’s most advanced military electronic warfare weapons, including jammers, disruptors and cyber tools that can cause electronics to malfunction mysteriously, or to operate in ways that can cause them to self-destruct.

On July 30, the PLA showed off some of its new electronic warfare gear at an annual military parade in Inner Mongolia. Among the hundreds of armaments on display at the event was equipment used to disrupt enemy radar and communications in air defense and ground combat.

Got it.

In 1997 he reported on Russian aid to Iran’s nuclear weapon program, based on information given him by the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad.[13] In 1998 he reported on United States sale of missile technology to China.[14] In 2004, Gertz wrote that Syria, possibly with the aid of Russian troops, transferred Iraqi weapons of mass destruction stockpiles to its own military installations.

Captain is ALWAYS in charge. Pilots do not touch any controls – ever. They provide guidance only. There were two pilots on board.

The ship lost power. Why? No one knows yet. No power = almost no control. Rudder is hydraulic or electric and often computer controlled so may have lost rudder control as well as thrust.

The captain managed to slow the ship down and issue a warning which prevented many deaths as traffic was stopped.

Ships losing power is not uncommon. Some have back up systems to provide limited power for emergencies. Harbors used to have tugs on standby for emergencies like this not sure if they do any more. As for the Chinese hacking the Navy ships a few years ago. That is not what happened. Both cases were operational error primarily due to loss of situational awareness. Unfortunately, it happens more often than it should and not just to military vessels.
The inertia generated by any large vessel takes time and power to slow down even at 5 miles per hour. Vessels such as this are actually harder to control at slow speeds as rudder(s) have less effect. Tugs are often used to moor large ships in harbors for this reason. Just have to wait for the investigation.

Depending where the Harbor starts there may have been a harbor master on or directing the ship.

The Role of the Harbour Master
Ports can be busy places and, by the very nature of their business activities, may be hazardous places to work. The Harbour Master has a key role to play ensuring that people living and working in or close to the port, the port’s staff, customers or visitors to the port environment can go about their business safely. Harbour Masters must be familiar with all relevant safety, environmental and health laws at the international, national and local level.
Ship Arrival

From initial information provided by the ship on draft, length overall and displacement, the Harbour Master will allocate a suitable berth and apply any restrictions he may feel necessary for the safe passage of that particular vessel in his port. Vessels arriving at a port will normally contact the port control or VTS station to receive instructions on the plan for their arrival and stay in the port. This exchange usually involves confirmation of the time the pilot will board and the berth to which the vessel is proceeding.

It’s all bullshit until proven otherwise

rest of text
This is the first in a series of actions by our own govt to restrict logistics, food supply, and access to ports. Who owns the port infrastructure in the US? China. Who owns a bulk of the remaining food processing and meat packing plants in the US? China. Who controls logistics across key sea lanes of communication? China.

This is the first of many coming attacks against out critical infrastructure. You think the cost of living is high right now? Wait a week or two. This is the first of many coming events folks. Have some food and water on hand. Be ready for the next round of FBLIE “non-attacks” that take down infrastructure.

Memphis, TN, is another choke point for transportation. There are two big bridges for wheeled traffic and two bridges for rail across the Mississippi River. The two roadways are already close to capacity and the talk at present is to shut down and destroy the older of the two so that a new one can be built. In other words, they want to cut total road capacity about 40% for likely at least a decade at one of the major crossings connecting eastern US with western US.

Apparently, also construction crews.

Looks that way, except for the unfortunate souls working on the bridge at the time.

If the harbour pilot was non-white, expect that fact to be suppressed.

An infrastructure attack made to appear as an “accident”. Who was the culprit? Nee-grow harbor pilot, Third world ship crew, China/Russia, CIA/Langley, or all of the above? My money is on the latter. All part of Operation Chaos, where governments fight the real ‘enemy’ – the average citizen.

Not too hard to say what’s is happening here. Apparently, its another zionist bolshevik move since it was another cultural attack (francis scott key) on america. Similar to removing statues and the like. I’m sure the power went out since that can be rigged fairly easily with a good hacker… but what of the backups for power? Surely they have battery operated lights, fog lights and search lights…no? Shipping is heavily regulated by maritime law, and rigidly so. So while you are departing a port and heading to a bridge, and you lose power, and you dont take emergency manuevers??

it would be more believable if it were foggy, rainy, high winds, stormy….but all we had was a full bright moon. Funny how strange things happen on a full moon.

“March’s full moon, the Worm Moon, rose over Earth on Sunday, March 24, exactly two weeks before the total solar eclipse that will sweep over North America on April 8, 2024.

https://www.bustle.com/life/march-full-worm-moon-2024-spiritual-meaning

This year, the March Full Moon is the first Full Moon after the March equinox (which occurs on March 20), so it can be also called the Paschal Full Moon. The Christian holiday Easter always occurs on the first Sunday following the Paschal Full Moon; in 2024, Easter will fall on March 31. https://starwalk.space/en/news/full-moon-march

We’ll never get the truth on this accident. Thats a fair assumption. Take heed for the solar eclipse in a few weeks.

Mebbe the pilot and the captain were busy watching the March Madness jungleball tourney?

The choke point of the Straight of Hormuz ain’t got nothin’ on the Port of Baltimore, where the new George Floyd Memorial bridge will eventually be reconstructed.
By DEI hires, no doubt.

I betcha those construction workers filling pot holes on the humpty dumpty couldn’t breath, either, after dropping to an unexpected bath.

Yeah. Let’s ignore a history of the incidents where we’ve been lied to.
Especially concerning horrific and tragic loss of infrastructure, vital property, and lives.

It’s hard to imagine you being on a site like this and saying something like that.

It’s like someone who is lactose intolerant hanging out at the Korova.

There are now 4 U.S. Navy Roll On/Roll Off ships stuck in Baltimore Harbor for a period of time. There are only a few others on the East Coast. Hard to move Tanks or other Heavy Equipment to Europe without them.
