Speaking of awe inspiring: yesterday I was driving along our little suburban town with our daughter and suddenly we saw a bald eagle fly directly above us, maybe 80 feet up. So I stopped the car, we got out and looked at it. Then, my daughter says: “Look, there is another one sitting in the tree!” I hadn’t seen it. And then the one swooped down, landed next to the other one on the branch and then they mated!!! We very rarely see any eagles around here, and to see two is already unheard of, but to witness them mate was probably a once in a lifetime event.
According to the weather forecast your best bet is as far Northeast as you can get. Most of the US is going to be overcast.

If you are in the path of totality and not too remote, then be prepared for VERY significant crowds. Parts of Tennessee along the I-81 were deluged with masses of people for the last big eclipse. They had to shut down the interstates for very real safety reasons, and traffic crept along the whole day at 5 to 10 mph as all of those crowds tried to eventually get home. It was a mess that caught many off guard although some small towns were smart enough to anticipate the crowds and setup as if it were a festival (e.g. port-a-potties, food trucks, etc.)

That’s really cool ! I saw an eagle take off from the ground once, as I was driving down a country road it was at the edge of a field right next to the road and took off, I pulled over got out and watched it fly away. It amazed me how huge it was and with it’s massive wingspan it looked like a Cessna 182 taking off !
Yes, the wingspan is something. First, I thought it was a vulture, but eagles have a very characteristic way of wing movement, unlike any other bird. The white tail gave it away on second look, of course. Only us and a woman walking her dog stopped and watched the eagle. All other car drivers didn’t bother and just went ahead with their day. Me stopping the car and taking a few minutes out of our day admiring the bird was definitely rewarded. Talk about “smelling the roses” in life.
I drove by that same spot again today and was thinking how in a very weird and philosophical way watching bald eagles mate, hopefully creating new life, gave me renewed hope in our country. Not in the country that is long gone, but the whole idea of the USA.
I also wonder how the shared joy of seeing such a wonderful act of nature together with my daughter, the one who said that she never wants to have children, might light a little spark in her and change her mind.

There used to be, maybe it’s still there, an eagle conservatory in Baraboo Wisconsin. You can go there and watch them do their thing in the woods. This was decades ago, not sure they still exist up there anymore.

My sister went out on her deck and there were 8-10 Eagles in the tree overhanging the deck. She stood there marveling at it and suddenly thought, what happens when they take off? She backed out from under the tree and they took off and half of them crapped on take off. She said she would have been plastered. The next town over has a big field that is still farmed in the middle of town. A couple of years ago the Eagles were hunting field mice in the field. Pretty cool to see.
I saw an Arctic Tern come from behind a cliff one time flying like a bat out of hell. Right behind it is a big old bald eagle. Just flapping with a beautiful grace. He grabbed it and flew on. Something I will never forget.
At my cabin in Seward Alaska back in the 1980’s the Bald eagles would be doing there falling from the sky mating in Sept/Oct. Just something to see. There was probably 10 pairs one year. I never saw it in the spring.

I don’t understand the hype either. I’ve seen two partials, photogrpahed the full in 2017, and the Annular (Ring of Fire) eclipse last year. For the Ring I slept in the cold desert in Capitol Reef, dragging my ass out of a warm sleeping bag to sit on a rock, while my wife stayed in the camper, then sat in a camp chair drinking coffee watching the same event I did……….
No way I’ll drive to the shit show for this eclipse, not because I’m afraid, but because of the shit show of people.
I flew a small four seater to Tennessee to view the 2017 eclipse and laughed at the traffic jamming and creating a parking lot of vehicles on the highways below, until we ran into some thunderstorms over Indiana around 10:00pm, I wasn’t laughing then but obviously made it though.

My biggest mistake was to try to photograph it. It takes away from the enjoyment, and you only have so many seconds. It’s like life itself: in an effort to take photos are otherwise create a permanent record of it, we don’t make the most of the moment.
This time, I will just hug my kids or hold my husband’s hand and enjoy it, no phone or camera.

When I went to Alaska in 1979, and just started work at the YACC camp in early September, in Seward, there was an eclipse. It was a perfectly clear night, and I had just turned 21. Best party ever, with much howling at the sun and moon. We had a roaring campfire, and people from all over the country were there. I met some people at that party that became best friends.

I had plenty of time to watch, be present in the moment, and photograph (Very well) the event, including the Diamond Ring.
For the Ring of Fire people started singing Ring of Fire and shortly after a guy was on his knee proposing to a women no less, and I started singing Total Eclipse of the Heart and then others joined in. Very memorable, very fun, and also successfully photographed.

sorry i didn’t see your reply before posting one of my own above. I had friends caught in the 2017 traffic and it was indeed a nightmare. Took many 5 and 6 hours to get home for what would normally be a 1 hr drive.
I enjoy celestial events also.
The circumstances that surround us at this present time tell me to stay completely away from large crowds. I will behave as usual on Monday, and not allow anything or anyone to have power over my schedule or my actions.
We are very close to the epicenter of the eclipse. I think the duration of totality is like 3 minutes. Luckily we are rural enough where the number of people expected to come and see it from our little town is low. We are going to bunker down and bring the kids outside to see it. I plan to up our OPSEC as well. They say animals get wacky during these kind of events, which includes humans. I am not worried about the wildlife. I have heard ramblings that the number of robberies, murders, rapes, and criminal activity in general will rise exponentially. So while we are outside slow smoking a brisket and waiting for the eclipse, I plan to be a packing.
I find that I’m never not packing these days. I love my Texas cross draw holster…equally comfortable sitting or standing.

A note of caution.
Whenever you purchase a new semi auto handgun or rifle or new mags for an existing one or change ammo in one test fire it for proper function with each magazine with the new ammo both slow and rapid fire and for reasonable accuracy.
Knowing for certain it will operate properly when needed with the ammo chosen is the most important thing possible.
Ball ammo will generally always function well but specialty ammo can be more hit and miss with different operating pressures, bullet weights and configurations.
M1152 is the new 9mm for the M17/18 SIG the government is buying and those cute little B&T submachine guns. I ass-u-me the 124 NATO is being superseded. Both are considered +P.

HK USP has 12+1 .45 and the Glock has 13 +1 and I do love me some .45. Still, A 5″ 9mm with a 23+1 loaded with M1152 is my idea of a good time lately. If absolute power is the requirement a seven or eight round S&W or Ruger .357 mag is desirable. I suppose it could be .44 or .454, but I don’t have one of those.
Which is precisely why I ain’t playin’ with ANYTHING under .40 in a pistol round.
And my 1911 is still more concealable than my Ruger Super Blackhawk with the 7- 1/2 in. barrel in .44 mag.

My Rock Island 1911 is 8 + 1…single stack. Bought a butt load of of spare mags. Surprisingly, they all worked out fine!
Back in the day everything with a semiautomatic pistol was hit or miss. .22 pistols still are but I have not had a failure to feed, fire or extract with any new 9mm or .45 pistol in the past 20 years. CNC machining is the answer no matter what the question in firearms manufacturing.

If you get the chance, try out a Ruger American .45 pistol. I firmly believe it is the absolute finest striker fired .45 made. The recoil is amazingly light. All the muscle memory is 1911. Those of us with 1911 handling burned in our brains can pick one of these up and run it like an old friend. Novak sights, 10+1 and the best striker trigger on a production pistol.

How is an eclipse more significant than a really beautiful sunset? Sure its more rare to see one, but is infrequency the main reason its so special. How many really beautiful awe inspiring sunsets do you get to actually witness in your life? For some people depending on where they live and their work schedule and lifestyle, witnessing a truly gorgeous sunset can be rare as well. I would say a great sunset is much much more enjoyable to look at than an eclipse. It lasts longer, its bigger, full of colors and you can stare at it (sometimes) with the naked eye. Sure I can see how witnessing a total eclipse can also be visually fascinating, but ascribing all this astrology and foreboding end times nonsense to it just doesnt make much sense to me. Seems like a classic case of overhype among civilization that is a hold over from a time when eclipses were unexplainable and therefore frightening. People should be much more afraid of lighting.

Maybe I’m too stupid to understand but after reading this lengthy article, I still don’t understand why I shouldn’t view the eclipse? Is it because the media is telling me to? Seems to me that it is no “big deal” if I watch it and no “big deal” if I don’t. Will the govt. or NWO know that I stepped outside and viewed the eclipse? My youngest son and I had planned a trip up north into the band of totality back in the early spring last year. NASA had posted a path map so we decided on which town we would go to so we could plan our trip.
That town is no longer in the path of totality, in fact all but the tiniest sliver of our entire state is no longer in the path.
This of course got me into looking up how eclipses are forecast, their cycles, understanding why they occur, etc. I took an astronomy course in high school and have always enjoyed stargazing and can name most of the constellations in the sky, but my eclipse knowledge was sketchy at best.
Here’s what I learned; no one outside of a very small group of people with the most arcane set of knowledge using the weirdest variety of terms and names outside of an H.P. Lovecraft novel can tell you anything about them other than the standard the Earth gets between the Sun and the Moon stuff that works on the Sesame Street crowd.
You know what the other term for an eclipse is?
Occultation.
The more I looked into it the stranger the explanations got until it seemed fairly certain that either they have no idea what they’re talking about or they do but they certainly don’t want you to understand it.
And to think all this time I thought a solar eclipse was where the moon got directly between the sun and the earth . I also thought when the earth gets between the sun and the moon they called that” nighttime” if you we’re on the moon side of the earth and “daytime ” if you were on the sun side ?But again I’ve also been laboring under the false pretense that the earth was spherical too so ….
You do know that there are both solar and lunar eclipses, right?
My point was that the further I researched, the more arcane and dense the explanations and the more voluminous the use of unfamiliar words and terminology in order to explain the phenomenon, most of it impenetrable to anyone who was not an astronomy major.
It would seem, on its face, to be a rather easy thing to explain, a three body problem involving spheres of known size, speed and orbital plane interacting in an entirely predictable manner based on what we’ve been told about the Earth, the Moon and the Sun.
Instead they can’t even tell you where the phenomenon can be viewed without last minute calculations.
So either they know something for certain, or they are spit-balling.
I understand if you believe the accepted narrative, I did for most of my life, mostly because I never really looked too deep into it. The more you do the more inexplicable things start to show up leading to questions with a multitude of different explanations, none of them definitive.
Once one grasps that nothing is as it seems one sees that anything is possible.
I agree. I have no particular occult interest and basic science knowledge. But I’m an old librarian and read like crazy. I decided to “update” on the eclipse and discovered so much strangeness.

Did you see my note about the Amish maple syrup sap stoppage this year? The sap stopped running weeks before normal! Perhaps the trees know something about the upcoming quake?
They are selling cheap Eclipse viewing sunglasses at stores. Probably made elsewhere, unknown effectiveness. If you need to look, look with one eye. Might be mass blinding.
