Also with AI is generating ad copy and graphics for people for free, opportunities to work in marketing are going to be fewer and fewer every day. She should consider learning a skilled trade that can’t be outsourced or done by a computer.

I once knew a young lady who was hell on wheels when it came to the electrical engineering field, especially high voltage systems reduced to low voltage and computerized conveyor systems. She could go toe to toe with any man when it came to trouble-shooting the bugs and kinks during the ramp-up cycle.

THIS 100%. I am in real estate as most of you know. Guess what? Real estate market is a little crappy right now because there is NO inventory. So even if you have 100 buyers ready to go, if there are no houses to buy, then you get zero sales. The foreclosures I do have for sell sell in a HOT MINUTE no matter the condition. These are not million dollar homes by any stretch. They are sometimes filled with trash and cat poop and have what we call “house-atosis”. It’s a stench like no other and literally every one smells like it. Well that and often a stank of cigarette and sometimes rotten food in the fridge.
2009-2016 I would sell probably 60-90 homes a year. Now? 15-20.
So what’s a girl to do? Side hustles. I do property condition reports for lenders who have homeowners looking to do HELOCS. They pay $75 bucks and take an hour. I have some I don’t even leave my car, take 4 pics answer a few questions, $20 bucks.
Then we have work I do with my BF, painting, flooring, landscape, trash removal, literally whatever it takes. These jobs do pay well, but they are physically demanding and you cannot be afraid of getting dirty with some of them.
Work is out there, you just need to find it. These kids do not understand that, they swallowed the lie hook, line, and sinker…go to X College, get X degree, work X job, BEST LIFE EVAH!!! They think employment is an Instagram page of glamour and sunshine and all that bullshit.
I think all of us here remember when we were kids, we all worked at a fast food joint, or a ice cream place in the summer, or gas station, or stocked shelves or whatever. Why did we do it? Well because our parents were like ‘hey, if you want a car/phone/trip/certain clothes/music/shoes then get off your ass and go get a job your 15 years old’ and so we did. I have had a job since I was 15 with the exception of 1 month off when my son was born. I have been a banquet waitress, a bus girl, a bartender, a cook at Friendly’s, worked in women’s clothes department at KMart (literally the most boring job I have ever had), drove limo (in NYC too!), cut meat, a restaurant manager, a caterer, and a gas station manager (also sucked hard). I have run a lathe, a horizontal miller, and a Bridgeport, know how to operate most power tools, and can swing a hammer. I can do math, make change in my head, and don’t need a digital clock to tell me the time. I can read cursive, understand blue prints and maps, and punctuate my written work. I know the difference between their/they’re, it’s/its, and know where to put an apostrophe.
I personally will never lack for work simply because I have a variety of skills and I don’t wear fake eyelashes that look like a gypsy moth caterpillar clinging to my eyeballs. That shit is distracting and outside of drag queens and strippers make no sense.

Took PC/HELOC inspections on as a sideline from 2006-12. Then, the company was bought out and compensation was reduced by 2/3s, so I dropped it.
The three markets I work in (Charlotte, Beaufort & Charleston) are still healthy (for now). So, that’s a year off possibility. Or sooner if Biden cheats enough.
What I got out of this is that you have one child, no husband, and someone else is raising your kid most of the time minus that one month.
I have one son who is 33 and lives in Texas. I was married very young, had my son very young, and my mom watched my son when I was working and my husband was working. When my son was very young (pre school age) I only worked part time nights so I could be home days with him while my husband worked at United Van Lines.
The reason I had to go back to work after only one month was because my husband broke his hand and was out on disability and it wasn’t enough for all the bills, so back I went.

I agree with you on that point. Women, especially my generation, were told ‘you can have it all!’ The reality is life is about choices, and it’s not possible to have it all. Something has to suffer, whether it’s your marriage/relationship, your kids/lack of kids, or your career. Many women put children on hold for a ‘career’. Then their mid-to late 30’s came and suddenly they scrambled to either find a husband and then get pregnant or just tried for the baby solo and found out the salad days of fertility were far behind them.
Or if they did get pregnant, they were now STILL trying to be a mom and have that high-powered career and their relationship suffered until one day their husband was gone.
And I wasn’t bragging about work and money. The whole point of my post was in response to the young lady on the video not being able to get a job. I have sold real estate for 19 years. I am not a millionaire, nor do I care to be, but live pretty well.

down here in greece pay is crap for tech work too, after 2 years of trying to find work remote from the US or europe where at least the pay would be okay, and getting nowhere, i did finally find some good tech work down here in country. the pay is about what the cashier at the supermarket checkout would get up in europe or the states, but it’s a little better than construction labor and i have some flexibility about what hours of the day i work which helps when you have young kids.
wife refuses to leave the country and in any case the past few years if you want to go to the US legally they demand people take the kill shot, which is simply not an acceptable condition. i had a green card application for the wife approved but while it was still being processed (this shit takes years now, i thought back in the day it was a matter of a month or two for a us citizen bringing a spouse to the states) they announced their new ‘requirement’ and that basically ended that idea.
i joked that she should learn rudimentary spanish , get a dark dark tan, and well just fly to mexico and walk over in to texas, shell even get some free shit on the way. but going legally? even harder than it used to be if youre white coming from a white country.
If you have a masters then maybe you have some smarts? Inventory your skills, do your homework understanding what you dream job requires, write it up and present it to your employer of choice. No one has ever said you have to tell the truth about everything-just make sure you can wing it when the interview team asks for details. Did you write a masters thesis? Did you defend it? If not, do what Dr. Jill and Big Mike did: marry a politician.
in the same boat. up until a couple years ago technical competence and a couple decades of proven performance was more than enough to get a really good job. now, a straight white christian man, is at the absolute bottom of the list. it took two years and half a dozen times when i thought for sure i got this job after several rounds of interviews i know i aced, and then out of the blue some lame-ass reason was tossed to avoid saying outright, sorry were not hiring a straight white man.. finally i found something decent. in the meantime i did farm and construction labor which when youre almost 50 certainly wears you out in a way that even ten years ago you didnt feel at all, but then, i called it my free fitness programme and even came home with some cash from it all. there is work, but pretty much everywhere, pay is lower than it was a few years ago and conditions are rougher (more jobs where they skimp you on the pay, stretch the hours, etc) on one job, we were four guys, mixing, hauling, and placing, 18 cubic meters (about 23 cubic yards) of concrete for a slab, in one day. don’t think of an american type environment where a cement truck comes. This was piles of sand, gravel, and palets of bags of cement (218 bags went into that pour) and one gas-powered mixer which didnt stop running except to refill the fuel. we shoveled, filled buckets, fed the mixer, two of us on the feeding end filling buckets and feeding and running the mixer, two of us running the concrete with whellbarrows over to where the next load was needed and tamping it in the half-minute while the mixer ran the next batch. from 8 am to 10 pm. you can’t stop a slab in the middle. try finding some candy ass millenial or gen z or whatever , tablet generation snowflake to do that job!
we built that whole house, but that day was the absolute craziest. was a good several months job overall. these whiny ass kids these days who think life is so hard, yeah, get up off yer asses and do some work. oh, and that crew? all between 45 and 50. you wont find one in a hundred young kids today worth a damn for a real job like that.

This lady’s video is not really an of indicator of the general status of labor in the US. It is an indicator of the particular sectors of the job market that are being downsized as a result of AI. AI cannot do every job…not yet and probably not for a very long time. It can certainly do a lot of menial jobs in the marketing industry…because a lot of those jobs don’t really require a lot of skill and brainpower and have been filled with women like the one is this video (fake eyelash wearing, insta posting, hand talking) and they are about to find out a cozy easy high paying job is not waiting for them anymore.
