Not Content To Stop With Air Force One, Trump Is Now Going After The F-35

As I have previously detailed, at an estimated $1.5 trillion dollars, the F-35 is perhaps the biggest defense program in the US DoD’s budget, and unsurprisingly, it is far behind schedule and way over budget.  But the worst part about the F-35 is that it just can’t do the job it was designed for. Essentially a stealthy bomb chucker with a little bit of maneuverability, air-to-air capability, and a lot of high-priced avionics, it doesn’t even beat the jet its supposed to replace (the F-16) in within-visual-range engagements, and is almost totally reliant on its stealth to avoid them.

All of this begs the question – why didn’t the DoD instead choose to extend the F-22 line, and build a stealth fighter/bomber with more range and payload, scrapping the maneuverability requirement which held the plane’s performance back?

Trump Is Correct – Boeing Is Gouging The Taxpayer On The New Air Force One

The designation/callsign “Air Force One” has been around since around the time of WWII, with FDR being the first president to fly while in office. Since 1943, with only a couple exceptions, the Air Force has been flying custom versions of Boeing commercial airliners for the presidential flight mission. Most recently replaced in 1990, the president currently flies in a modified 747 with the military designation “VC-25”; two copies were produced for a cost of $325 million apiece, and the callsign “Air Force One” is only used when the president is onboard.

Even though it is still extremely advanced, Air Force One is due for a replacement. Currently, the operating cost for each VC-25 is $210,877 per hour; an extremely high figure, likely because of the dated nature and high maintenance costs of both the airframe and the avionics suite.

However, with a total program cost estimated to be around $4 billion dollars, Boeing is clearly gouging the taxpayer. The newest derivative of Air Force One will end up being over six times as expensive as the last one, which was built on the same airframe. I guess Boeing just thought the higher price tag was going to slip through the cracks of a bloated DoD budget?

Sandy Hook Promise Video Masks The Group’s True Anti-Gun Nature

On Friday, the gun control group Sandy Hook Promise released a video, “Evan”.  It is a short video detailing two students trading messages on a desk, without knowing who the other is.  When they finally meet on the last day of school, a shooter interjects into the scene, and the video proceeds to cycle through several shots in the video that had no focus in the prior clip.

It is important to note, that the gun rights and gun control groups stand in unison on this issue – we are all working to identify troubled individuals looking to do harm, and make sure they get the attention they deserve.  No one takes issue with SHP working to cut down on gun violence.

However, after closer inspection of Sandy Hook Promise and what the group has done since its inception, I do have a big issue with the group’s practices, including this video, which is very misleading at best.  At worst, the group claims to offer help that it does not provide, and is disingenuously offering to educate the public as a way to promote their own gun control agenda.

Though Betfair is not offering contracts on the next Secretary of State, PredictIt, a US-legal alternative, is offering contracts on the outcome.  As seen below, with a total possible value of a full dollar if you are correct, most candidates offered by Paddy Power will pay out much better on PredictIt, with the notable exceptions of Rudy Giuliani and John Bolton.

You should already know the top reason that General David Petraeus should be disqualified for the position of Secretary of State.

While problems in his marriage and his infidelities aren’t relevant to the role, and shouldn’t eliminate him from consideration for the job, the fact that his pillow talk with his mistress involved him unlawfully sharing classified information is demonstrative of someone who has serious errors in judgment.

What Does The Trump (And The Republican) Win Mean For Gun Rights?

It is important to note that Trump has historically not been friendly to gun rights.  In his 2000 book, The America We Deserve, he called out Republicans who “walk the NRA line” and “refuse even limited restrictions” on firearms.  He seemed to be supporting a ban on “evil black rifles”, and using nomenclature that has been commonly used by the gun control crowd to denigrate their owners.  A flip-flop of these proportions is quite epic, and it is worth questioning if Trump merely did it to gain the necessary support to win.  While he could be a wild card for gun rights, and his position supporting them cannot be taken for granted, let’s examine the proposals put forward by Trump’s team, and see what could be in store for gun rights.

The “Fake News” Battle – Which News Is Real, And Which Is Fake?

Guest Post by Duane Norman

fake-news

There has been a back-and-forth going on for the past several days between traditional mainstream media and web-based news sites, with both sides accusing the other of being arbiters of “fake” news.  It has gone far enough to elicit comment from Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, pledging to purge fake news from Facebook, and Twitter has recently begun a purge of “alt-right” accounts in its attempt to crack down on “hate speech”.  Though the back-and-forth has been going on for quite some time now, in the wake of Trump’s victory, the debate has made its way to the front pages of the news cycle in both the MSM and web-based media.  It is appropriate to provide some back story as to who has said what, before any analysis on which news sources to trust.

It’s a fair assumption that more or less everyone on the planet knows who Donald Trump is.  It’s an equally fair assumption, as derived from the rise of the “alt-right” media, that many even know why Donald Trump is.  Those that don’t – lately you can catch them in places like Portland or behind a desk at the New York Times – are suffering a very real existential crisis with regards to this question; they certainly know who Trump is, and there seems to be too much evidence from too many sources to continue the pretense he will not become the President of the United States in 2017.

But why?

Mainstream Media Continues To Demonstrate Why It Is Obsolete

Guest Post by Duane Norman

The NY Times released several articles and tweets, and even a letter from its publisher and executive editor, pledging to “report America and the world honestly, without fear or favor”.  Given the fact that profit and revenue continue to decline at the paper, prompting yet another round of layoffs, the NY Times at least gave the outward appearance of accepting the new reality of news.  The internet has given birth to a slew of alternative media outlets that are able to easily expose errors and bias in MSM reporting, and their rise has directly contributed to the decline of MSM outlets and their ad revenues.  In the wake of Trump’s win, it almost felt as if Mainstream Media recognized that it needed to change to survive.
