“Marxist Dream” Crushed – In Landslide Vote, Swiss Reject Proposal To Hand Out Free Money To Everyone

Via Zero Hedge

This weekend the Swiss population was called upon to make a historic decision, when Switzerland became the first country worldwide to put the idea of free money for everyone, technically known as Unconditional Basic Income (of CHF2,500 per month for every adult man and woman, and CHF625 for every child, for doing absolutely nothing) to a vote.

As reported previously, the outcome of this referendum would set a strong precedent and establish a landmark in the evolution of the debate of handing out free money in a centrally-planned world. And as predicted, based on early vote projections it has been a landslide decision against the “free lunch.”

Opponents of the Swiss Basic Income Initiative demonstrate in front of parliament

According to BBC, some 78% of voters opposed the plan, a GFS projection for Swiss TV suggested. AFP adds that most Swiss vote in advance by post, so a large majority of ballots had already been counted, and gfs.bern put the margin of error at just plus/minus three percent.

Supporters said since work was increasingly automated, fewer jobs were available for workers. Switzerland is the first country to hold such a vote. No figure for the basic income had been set, but those behind the proposal suggested a monthly income of 2,500 Swiss francs (£1,755; $2,555) for adults and SFr625 for each child, reflecting the high cost of living in Switzerland. It is not clear how it would affect people on higher salaries.

Supporters of a basic income last month launched a giant poster campaign. The poster unfortunately fails to ask “who is going to pay for it?”

The Myth of Gay Marriage

By Francis Marion

From my personal archives, written in 2003.

Unknown

I can’t get over the furor around the “same sex marriage issue.” It’s not that I’m for it, it’s just that I don’t understand the shock and dismay behind it. I keep asking myself: “In a society that allows government to license and therefore define a personal relationship, what do you expect?”

Moreover, does it really matter what the government says about the issue? Just because the state redefines an ancient and primarily biblical term doesn’t mean that term suddenly loses its meaning or intent. That is unless you consider marriage to be a strictly legal institution, in which case I say to you: sorry, you lose. The government wins. They (the courts and the legislature) do, after all, define all things legal.

Of course if you view marriage as a spiritual or holy union (and not a legal one) then you really have nothing to fear. Gays can’t be married in biblical terms no matter who redefines what in any legal dictionary, statute or code.

The Bible clearly defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. A union between a man and a man is sin – biblically speaking. There’s no getting around that fact. From a Christian view point two men living together in a carnal relationship is no more marriage than jumping out of an airplane without a parachute attached is flying.

Come and Get Me, You Fairies!

Normally I wouldn’t subject you to two columns in a row about Canadian goings-on, but I see my new topic has already been deemed worthy of attention here, at “The Week That Perished.”

“Canada Proposes Imprisonment for Anti-Tranny ‘Hate Speech’” topped the list:

Trudeau is pushing a bill that would protect Canada’s eternally vulnerable transgender community by sending offenders to prison for up to two years if they dare commit the unpardonable sin of uttering “anti-transgender speech.”

(And before you scroll down to the comments to lecture me on your clearly overrated First Amendment, American readers should bear in mind that New York state, for one, already has similar laws on the books, and they carry fines of up to $250,000. And this Oregon “transmasculine” teacher got $60,000 because her colleagues wouldn’t refer to “it” as “they.”)

No, the Canadian law hasn’t been passed yet, but Trudeau’s Liberals have a majority in Parliament, so they can theoretically shove through any law they want to. The Grits’ priorities are weed, “green” bullshit, assisted suicide, and, well, another kind of “assisted suicide”: fighting on the “Allies” side in “World War T.” When it comes to chicks with dicks, the Libs are determined to dress on the right (that is, left) side of history.

Dalai Lama: There Are ‘Too Many’ Refugees in Europe

From the mouths of famous and respected (mostly by the left) senior citizens:

Well, well. When Donald Trump says Muslim immigration should be temporarily halted until things get sorted out, the media and the left (but I repeat myself) heads explode. Where are those critics when the Dalai Lama says the exact same thing?

In an interview published late last week, the Dalai Lama said that Europe has accepted “too many” refugees, and that they should eventually return to help rebuild their home countries.

According to Digital Journal, the Tibetan spiritual leader said,

“When we look into the face of every single refugee, especially the children and women, we can feel their suffering.”

What women and children? They’re nearly all adult males.

“A human being who is a bit more fortunate has the duty to help them. On the other hand, there are too many now,” he said in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. “Europe, for example Germany, cannot become an Arab country,” he added with a laugh. “Germany is Germany.”

Too late. Germany last year took in 1.1 million purported refugees fleeing war in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries.

“There are so many that in practice it becomes difficult.”

Yes, to put it mildly.

He added that “from a moral point of view too, I think that the refugees should only be admitted temporarily. The goal should be that they return and help rebuild their countries.”

That’s not going to happen. That was never the goal.

The Dalai Lama, 80, who has himself lived in exile for over half a century, said in the interview that he hopes to one day return to Tibet.

“Maybe in a few years. If an opportunity for my return arises, or at least for a short visit, that would be a source of great joy.”

Imagine that. Germany for the Germans. Syria for the Syrians. And so forth and so on. Now, if we could only convince our governments to quit meddling in everyone’s affairs and stirring the shit politically from one end of the globe to the other then maybe, just maybe, people would stay put and we could all build our lives peacefully if not separately. Somehow I don’t think this is going to get a lot of play time in the mainstream media.
