Early Oscars numbers suggest all-time low ratings

The hypocrisy of these hollywood douchebags railing against women exploitation and violence, as accusations of pedophilia, sexual harrassment, rape pile up and their most popular movies glorify gun violence is breathtaking to behold. No one gives a fuck what some multi-millionaire who spouts lines thinks about gun control. Wearing an orange anti-gun pin created by douchebag Bloomberg, while 500 armed men protect your red carpet stroll, is the height of hypocrisy. The average person is tuning them out.

Ratings for the 2018 Oscars telecast were down 16% compared with last year, according to unofficial overnight numbers reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The awards ceremony, which saw 20th Century Fox-owned Fox Searchlight’s “The Shape of Water” win best picture, garnered a 18.9 overnight rating among households between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern. That doesn’t mean that 18.9 million people tuned in, but rather 18.9% of the households measured tuned in. That would be an all-time low, The Hollywood Reporter wrote.

The manufactured outrage over Harvey Weinstein has been entertaining, mostly because a lot of gaseous Hollywood blowhards have taken it in the shorts over it. Watching guys like Ben Affleck and Jimmy Kimmel suffer is enjoyable because they are horrible people fond of self-righteously lecturing the rest of us. The schadenfreude is all good fun, but it misses a bigger story. The reason Hollywood is imploding in scandals, over what has been the norm for generations, is that the smart money has left the business.
