IG Report On FBI Spying Exposes “Scandal Of Historic Magnitude” For US Media

Authored by Glenn Greenwald via The Intercept,

Just as was true when the Mueller investigation closed without a single American being charged with criminally conspiring with Russia over the 2016 election, Wednesday’s issuance of the long-waited report from the Department of Justice’s Inspector General reveals that years of major claims and narratives from the U.S. media were utter frauds.

Before evaluating the media component of this scandal, the FBI’s gross abuse of its power – its serial deceit – is so grave and manifest that it requires little effort to demonstrate it. In sum, the IG Report documents multiple instances in which the FBI – in order to convince a FISA court to allow it spy on former Trump campaign operative Carter Page during the 2016 election – manipulated documents, concealed crucial exonerating evidence, and touted what it knew were unreliable if not outright false claims.

‘Corroboration Zero’: An Inspector General’s Report Reveals the Steele Dossier Was Always a Joke

Guest Post by Matt Taibbi

Former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey

The Guardian headline reads: “DOJ Internal watchdog report clears FBI of illegal surveillance of Trump adviser.”

If the report released Monday by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz constitutes a “clearing” of the FBI, never clear me of anything. Holy God, what a clown show the Trump-Russia investigation was.

Like the much-ballyhooed report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the Horowitz report is a Rorschach test, in which partisans will find what they want to find.

Much of the press is concentrating on Horowitz’s conclusion that there was no evidence of “political bias or improper motivation” in the FBI’s probe of Donald Trump’s Russia contacts, an investigation Horowitz says the bureau had “authorized purpose” to conduct.

The War of the Narratives

Guest Post by Jim Kunstler

Note:  I will add an update on all this later today.

Fighting for its very life, the Resistance rolls out a last-ditch flanking maneuver today in its three-year war against reality as Rep. Adam Schiff’s House Intel Committee presents findings to Rep. Nadler’s Judiciary Committee for crimes as yet unspecified against Mr. Trump, possibly as grave as treason. Buyer beware. The Resistance always accuses its enemy of the very acts it commits — for instance, colluding with Russia, the primal deed that the guiding spirit of the Resistance, Mrs. Clinton, perpetrated in hiring Glenn Simpson’s Fusion GPS outfit and its star front-man, Christopher Steele, to consort with Russian disinformation agents injecting some helpful fantasy into the 2016 election.

Death comes a-creeping at my door
Oh my Lord, oh my Lord what shall I do
?

The old plantation spiritual comes to mind as the first in a series of DOJ Inspector General’s reports is issued — this one outlining the turpitudes of former FBI Director Jim Comey — while even more fateful inquiries by Barr and Durham grind away in silence and mystery, and one senses that sometime soon the whole hot mess of RussiaGate will land on the doormat of Barack Obama.

Many other (by now) well-known names have been implicated in this fiasco but Mr. Obama has stood aloft from them on a fluffy cloud of his own, enjoying his multimillion book deal, plenty of international travel, and shopping for real estate on Martha’s Vineyard, the elephants’ graveyard of the One Percenters. And yet, something wicked is creeping his way as investigators work up the food chain to discover why and how so many high government officials cooked up a scheme to get rid of the despised winner of the 2016 election.

The IG Report Was a Whitewash and Devastating All At Once

The IG Report Was a Whitewash and Devastating All At Once

The FBI has managed to transform its image from Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., into Special Agent Boogaloo Shrimp, and the Inspector General’s report was the bureaucratic self-policing equivalent of Breakin’ Faith 2: Electric Bamboozle.

Here’s the punchline: MC Hammered, who dropped his Glock and shot a dude whilst bustin’ a move, was one of those “top 5% of applicants” that zombie FBI Director Christopher Wray kept babbling about during his excuse conference following the report’s release. But that guy would not have even placed in competition for the title “Worst FBI Agent Ever” against the toadies, flunkies, and hacks the report highlights.

During his spin cycle news conference, Wray spent a surprising amount of time – that is, any time – boasting about the quality of his FBI honors interns. Great. Put one of them in charge. He, she, or (knowing the current liberal culture of the FBI) xe, can’t do any worse.

Washed, Bleached and Rinsed

Guest Post by Jim Kunstler

The FBI brass must have needed hazmat suits to scrub DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report on agency misconduct around the 2016 elections. The result of their mighty exertions is something like 500 pages of pasteurized tofu. I will be surprised if a new scandal does not erupt over exactly how the scrubbing went down, and I wouldn’t count out the possibility of the original unscrubbed report emerging from deep inside the FBI itself. You have to wonder how embarrassed Mr. Horowitz is, and whether he, or others seeking to defend his integrity, might do anything about it.

Fear and Loathing and the IG Report

Guest Post by Shawn Fair

I’m getting that feeling again, the same one that I felt November 7th, 2012 when Obama won the election. I traveled a bit at that time and felt what I observed in different parts of the country was that the “silent majority” seemed to realize that from 2008 to 2012, nothing was done to improve America, race relations were at an all time low and the people were looking for a change; just not the change from “Mr. Hope and Change.”

The feeling was that of a restricting of my wind pipe, not a life threatening restriction, but one that I had no ability to release myself from that came from the realization that the government was in full control. Resistance is futile.

IG Report Complete

Guest Post by Hardscrabble Farmer

So the IG has completed his/her/its review of the Clinton email/Russian Collusion/Shady Dossier/Trump campaign Spying Scandal and it will become public (allegedly) next month. I say that because it was due on March 5th, April 22 and May 5th and was a no-show for each, but hey, it’s the Government we’re talking about here.

https://www.rt.com/usa/427050-justice-department-report-finished-comey/

The Justice Department Inspector General has finished its report into law enforcement’s handling of the Hillary Clinton email case. Officials named in the report will now review it, and many have a lot at stake.

Here’s what stood out to me.

“According to the Post, copies of the IG report have been sent to James Comey, Lisa Page, Peter Strzok, former FBI deputy Director Andrew McCabe, and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch. Their feedback will be incorporated into the final report, which will be then released in the coming weeks.”

WTH? Why do you make the report available to the people you’ve been investigating and then incorporate their feedback into the final report? Do they do that for other criminal investigations? Did Ted Bundy get to put in his feedback on the investigation into his serial murder spree? In what world does that make any sense at all? Does that imply that the report was written without even contacting the principles involved for interrogation? What kind of investigation doesn’t seek to contact the perps until after it’s been completed? Who runs this dog and pony show?
