Javier Milei at the WEF- Attacking Socialism, Defending Monopolists?

Guest Post by Dr. Robert Malone

Argentine self interest or fundamental principles?

Having taken the time to research and cover (in this substack essay) the CV and anarcho-capitalist logic of Argentine President (and economist) Javier Milei, I was familiar with most of the points made during his speech at the WEF earlier this week. However, his comments supporting monopolies were new to me, and have been nagging at me ever since.

What is a Monopoly?

A monopoly is a situation in which a single company has complete control over the market for a particular product or service. This means that the company is the only player in the market and has no competition. As a result, the company can control prices, limit supply, and exert significant power over consumers.

How do Monopolies Form?

Monopolies typically form when there are significant barriers to entry into a market. These barriers can include high start-up costs, regulatory requirements, or patents that protect a company’s intellectual property. In many cases, existing companies may also engage in anti-competitive practices, such as price dumping, predatory pricing, or other tactics designed to push out potential competitors.

Javier Milei’s First Day in Office – Reduce the Size of Government

Guest Post by Martin Armstrong

Argentina.Javir_.Milei_.ChainsawArgentina’s new President, Javier Milei, is making headlines around the world for vowing to radically change Argentina’s failing political system. Milei campaigned on implementing a “chainsaw plan” that would swiftly cut useless bureaus that drain government resources with no or minimal benefit to the public. Milei stuck to his campaign promises and slashed the number of federal agencies from 18 to 9.

HE TALKS A GOOD GAME

It’s a shame I’ve become so cynical in my old age. I do think this guy has good intentions, but he has virtually zero chance of doing the things he wants to do in Argentina. Their socialist swamp is deep and wide. They will thwart every change he tries to make. If he was to gain traction through popular support, they will kill him. So it goes.

Doug Casey on How Milei Could Make Argentina a Beacon of Freedom and Prosperity

Via International Man

International Man: Javier Milei made history by becoming the world’s first anarcho-capitalist president.

What is the historical significance of his victory? Are you optimistic?

Doug Casey: Milei’s election is a big deal—potentially a very, very big deal. He’s the first declared anarcho-capitalist in history to head any country. And not by stealth. He, all the while, said that the State is the enemy and should be abolished. Anarcho-capitalists believe that society can run itself without a State, which is a formalized instrument of coercion.

It’s unprecedented for somebody to be elected to run a State that he wants to abolish. And propose that if it continues to exist, it should only have the police, military, and the courts. And even those should be privatized.

Am I optimistic?

What Is Anarcho-Capitalism?

Commentary by Jeffrey A. Tucker via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

The presidential victory of Javier Milei in Argentina puts at the head of state the first self-proclaimed “anarcho-capitalist” in modern history—or probably the first person ever to win an election at this level to identify with that term.

In the meantime, I’ve had many people ask me precisely what this is. So here is the explanation as I understand it.

Central to the idea is that society does not require an entrenched entity of legalized compulsion and coercion called the state in order to enjoy the enforcement of property rights, contracts, defense, and commercial society generally. The fusing of the terms anarchism and capitalism is not a plan for the social order but rather a prediction of what would happen in a civilized community in the absence of the state.

Anarcho-Capitalism and Dr. Javier Milei

Guest Post by Dr. Robert Malone

The greatest danger to the State is independent intellectual criticism; there is no better way to stifle that criticism than to attack any isolated voice, any raiser of new doubts, as a profane violator of the wisdom of his ancestors.  Another potent ideological force is to deprecate the individual and exalt the collectivity of society.  For since any given rule implies majority acceptance, any ideological danger to that rule can only start from one or a few independently thinking individuals.

The new idea, much less the new critical idea, must needs begin as a small minority opinion; therefore, the State must nip the view in the bud by ridiculing any view that defies the opinions of the mass.  “Listen only to your brothers” or “adjust to society” thus become ideological weapons for crushing individual dissent.  By such measures, the masses will never learn of the nonexistence of the Emperor’s clothes.”

Anti-Woke Central Bank Nemesis Javier Milei Wins Argentina’s Presidential Election

Via ZeroHedge

Javier Milei, the outsider libertarian candidate with radical solutions to Argentina’s economic crisis, has just won Sunday’s presidential runoff against Economy Minister Sergio Massa.

In a surprise outcome, Massa conceded in a speech to supporters in Buenos Aires on Sunday even before the official results were released, saying he called Milei to congratulate him on his victory.

Javier Milei, a 53-year-old far-right economist and former television pundit with no governing experience, claimed nearly 56 percent of the vote, with more than 80 percent of votes tallied. It was a stunning upset over Sergio Massa, the center-left economy minister who has struggled to resolve the country’s worst economic crisis in two decades.

Voters in this nation of 46 million demanded a drastic change from a government that has sent the peso tumbling, inflation skyrocketing and more than 40 percent of the population into poverty. And with Milei, Argentina takes a leap into the unknown — with a leader promising to shatter the entire system, which the locals now correctly realize, is broken.

Argentina Follows US Charging Political Opponent To Influence Election

Guest Post by Martin Armstrong

A prosecutor launched a criminal case Friday against Argentina’s frontrunner in this month’s presidential elections, accusing Javier Milei of deliberately causing a drop in the Argentine currency when he encouraged citizens not to save in pesos. What the United States has done to Donald Trump has set the standard for the world. We will see more and more weaponizing of criminal law against political opponents. Everything is simply collapsing as we head into 2032.

Argentina Devalues Peso, Hikes Rates After Libertarian Outsider’s Shock Win In Presidential Primary

The Argentine peso, already at historic lows, puked immediately after far-right political outsider Javier Milei won the country’s primary election on Sunday. He wants a dramatic overhaul of the country’s entire political and economic system, even vowing to ditch the peso.

Milei is a rock-singing libertarian outsider candidate, an admirer of Donald Trump and self-described anarcho-capitalist, and his primary win headed into the October general election is being widely viewed as punishment for Argentina’s two main political establishment blocs – the center-left Peronist coalition and the main Together for Change conservative opposition bloc.

After winning 30% of the vote, beating the main conservative opposition bloc (at 28%) and the ruling Peronist coalition which came in third place, it’s being hailed in Argentine media as a “political earthquake”.

The 52-year old Milei might also be called the Ron Paul of Argentine politics, given his willingness to controversially raze entire longstanding institutions, including pledges to abolish Argentina’s central bank. He has also talked about replacing the peso with the US dollar and privatizing state-run firms.
