While today’s headline jobs print was somewhat disappointing, with the Establishment Survey missing the expected print of 175K, and growing by 156K, it was offset by a far higher 354K jump in the household survey which offset last month’s weakness. But while the quantitative headline aspect is open to interpretation, the qualitative component of the September jobs print was clear beyond a doubt: it was ugly.

It’s Time To Blame Obamacare For Losing So Many Full-Time Jobs

Had a sinking feeling about the economy of late? It may not be your imagination. Economic indicators have flashed yellow for much of 2016, and the latest jobs report shows further depletion of the work force and a dearth of job creation. That trend, says one major bank, may be attributable to President Barack Obama’s signature legislation.

Last Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the worst jobs report in almost six years. The US economy only added 38,000 jobs, less than a tenth of the estimated 458,000 Americans who left the workforce. In fact, thanks to revisions made to the March and April reports, that exceeds the number of jobs created in the past three months (348,000) by more than 100,000. The workforce participation rate dropped back to 62.6 percent, near a 40-year low, and more than three full points below its level at the start of the recovery in June 2009 (65.7 percent).

If you are visually oriented, the four charts below will explain all you need to know about our “strong” job growth. LF stands for Labor Force. The BLS decides whether you are in the labor force or not, based upon whatever their politician bosses tell them to report. If you have been out of work for too long, you’re not in the labor force. If you have been turned down for 50 job openings and have thrown in the towel, you’re not in the labor force. If you take a $40,000 Obama student loan and enroll at the University of Phoenix in Transgender Studies, you’re not in the labor force.

Far more working age Americans are leaving the workforce than getting jobs.
