Video From UCLA Shows How Vulnerable Students Are In A Gun Free Zone Lockdown

A campus shooting on Wednesday at the University of California left two men dead in a murder-suicided that sent thousands of students looking for safety and locking themselves down in classrooms.

UCLA is a gun free zone that prohibits students from carrying a gun within 1,000 feet of school grounds under Penal Code 626.9 PC, also known as California’s Gun-Free School Zone Act.

UCLA’s campus policy also, “Prohibits the transportation and possession of firearms and other dangerous weapons on the grounds of UCLA campus, off-campus buildings owned or operated by the University, areas adjacent to University Property or to activities of or programs conducted by the University, whether on or off University Property.”

What this means is that students have little way of defending themselves from a gunman who is seeking to do harm.

In this footage obtained by RT, you can see how students have nothing else to do for their safety but to lock themselves into a classroom and wait for the situation to be defused.

If a determined gunman wanted to barge into the classroom where the students in the video above were hiding, it’s very possible that he could have done so if he had enough time.

As you can see, all the students can do is to sit still and wait, in hopes they do not become targets.

UCLA’s gun policy and the state of California’s penal code establishing gun free zones did absolutely nothing to prevent the man who committed the horrific act on Wednesday from bringing his gun on campus.

Last October the state of California passed a bill that bans concealed handguns on campus.

What this video shows is that the states regulations are putting students in a terribly vulnerable position that could allow a determined gunman to do more damage then he otherwise would be able to do if students and faculty had sufficient means of self-defense.

We all know that Criminals do not obey the law.

In Honor Of “The Big Short”, Here Is Michael Burry’s Historic Commencement Speech

Tyler Durden's picture

On the day after one of America’s greatest for over-consumption, a few moments of quiet reflection on the state of our world seemed appropriate. With the launch of “The Big Short” movie (assuredly infuriating many Americans with its “dangerous for the establishment” expose of the greed, stupidity, hubris, and arrogance of Wall Street bankers gone wild), Dr. Michael Burry’s infamous UCLA commencement speech has much to offer .

Infamous for his correct predictions of the great recession, Europe’s demise, and the collapse of the US financial system (as well as profiting handsomely from being right), the painful ‘truthiness’ of this brief speech stunningly summarizes the ominous truth facing most of the developed (and much of the emerging) world today:

“In this age of infinite distraction… when the entitled elect themselves, the party accelerates, and the brutal hangover is inevitable.”

A quarter-of-an-hour well spent from a self-described ‘chicken-little’ who was “just trying to figure it all out”.

Speechless – UCLA Engages in Absurd, Anti-Intellectual and Dangerous Attack on Campus Free Speech

One of the most dangerous trends in America today is occurring on college campuses. These are the places I grew up viewing as laboratories for free speech, youthful energy and resistance to the status quo.

Unfortunately, what they’re turning into are anti-intellectual wastelands in which America’s supposedly “best and brightest” are being transformed into unthinking, mentally shackled, emotionally stunted automatons. The only thing being produced on college campuses these days seem to be frightened, thoughtless worker-bees, conditioned to shut-up and instinctively worship authority. Rather than teaching kids to think critically, administrators have created an environment where kids aren’t encouraged to think at all.

For those of you who may have missed it, I’ve covered this topic before. See:

Moving along, today’s piece relates to a recent incident on the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) campus. A fraternity-sorority party was held under the theme “Kanye Western,” in which partygoers wore costumes parodying Kanye West and his wife Kim Kardashian. Naturally, this was simply too much to handle for a vocal group of censorship-inclined students. As such, the accusations began to fly that the greek students wore blackface, and school administrators immediately moved to suspend the social activities of the fraternity and sorority before completing an investigation.

Interestingly enough, in the days that followed, it became clear that the students weren’t actually wearing blackface at all (not that it would have mattered from a free speech perspective). Conor Friedersdorf did an incredible job for making the case for free speech in his excellent Atlantic article. Here are a few excerpts:

DEFERRED MAINTENANCE & DUMBASSES

Where Universities, municipalities, states and the Federal government choose to spend their money matters. You can spend it on useless liberal arts bullshit, on gold plated pensions for union teachers, on school lunches for the FSA, on inner city mural programs, on diversity training, or on wars around the globe. Or, you can maintain your existing ancient infrastructure before it explodes.

A rupture of 93-year-old water pipe led to massive flooding on the campus of University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and parts of Sunset Boulevard, Tuesday, July 29. The floods which gushed about 75,000 gallons (283,906 liters) of water per minute damaged about a hundred cars and five buildings.
