QUOTES OF THE DAY

“A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.”

Mark Twain

“Never tell the truth to people who are not worthy of it.”

Mark Twain

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it–always.”

Mahatma Gandhi

“Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened.”

Winston S. Churchill

“Above all, don’t lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.”

Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

Love the Dostoevsky quote–have never come across it before. “The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him…” This to me best describes our politicians and oligarchs. They are not simply evil as so many would have us believe…they simply believe their own lies so thoroughly that they honestly believe they are necessary, but also good. They, like us all, are the heroes of their own story.

They, like us all, are the heroes of their own story, the difference being, they are also the villains in millions of others
