It was 1961. I first saw the Missus when I was just 17 and sitting in the bleachers at my high school basketball game. She walked in with 2 of her friends. Gorgeous. Beautiful, dark brown eyes. Pretty face. Bright smile. When I saw her, I asked a buddy who she was. He knew her and gave me her name.
Took me a month to get up the nerve to ask her out (I was in heaven when she accepted), and 4 dates to even kiss her. You cannot imagine how excruciating THAT process was. We stood in the hallway of her house jabbering about nonsense for almost an hour before I got enough courage to lean down for a goodnight kiss. She reciprocated sweetly and warmly. Game over.
That was 54 years ago. Not a moment’s regret. We still fight like cats and dogs. I like to call her “Baby” because it’s a hot button. “I’M NOT YOUR BABY,” she always says in anger. Heh. What fun.
