Battle of the Campaign Slogans

Guest Post by Scott Adams

Hillary Clinton rolled out a new campaign slogan this weekend: “We’re stronger together.” And by new slogan, I mean it is the same as a recent Estee Lauder ad campaign slogan. But Trump borrowed from Reagan with his “Make America Great Again” slogan, so let’s score it a tie in terms of originality.

Now let’s see how the slogans compare in terms of persuasion. I’ll start with Trump’s slogan first, then look at Clinton’s new offering.

Make America Great Again

Trump’s slogan uses the following persuasion techniques:

1. Provides no targets for disagreement.

2. Everyone has their own sense of what “great” means and how to do it. That vagueness is hardcore hypnosis technique.

3. It speaks to identity (the strongest form of persuasion) as Americans.

4. It suggests we lost something. Humans have more emotional connection to loss than potential gain.

5. It has “America” in it. That word is persuasion catnip for Americans. We have been brainwashed to have a twitch response to it.

6. It appeals to both genders.

7. It is aspirational. We all want to be better, or to make the country better.

Now let’s look at Clinton’s new slogan.

HILLARY SINKING FASTER THAN THE TITANIC

ABC, Fox News, and Rasmussen now have polls suggesting Donald Trump leads Hillary Clinton nationally and for the first time during this campaign RealClearPolitics ‘tracker’ has Trump with a 0.2pt lead – the unofficial “death cross” of Clinton’s campaign as Wayne Allyn Root right remarks “Hillary is sinking faster than the Titanic.” Voters are putting their money where their polls are too as bookies odds of a Hillary victory in November are tumbling.

Hillary’s lead has gone as the blue line “death cross”-es below Trump’s rising red line…

And the bookies’ odds of a Clinton victory in November are sliding to 2-month lows as Trump’s hit record highs…

Evaluating the Political Chess Board

Guest Post by Scott Adams

Trump has pulled ahead of Clinton nationally in both the new FOX poll and the Rasmussen Poll. And Trump passed Clinton in favorability according to the newest national poll on that topic. The Megyn Kelly interview (including the hyping of it ahead of time) marked Trump’s third-act turn.

By the way, Anderson Cooper of CNN said last night that CNN finds the FOX polling to be reliable and transparent, in case you wondered.

Meanwhile, Clinton is losing one primary after another to a dehydrated dandelion in her own party. That doesn’t bode well for the coming cage fight with Godzilla.

And Godzilla hasn’t even started to punch hard. He’s still looking at the opposition research and humming. So that’s coming.

Clinton is planning to appear on Ellen with the all-female cast of the new Ghostbusters movie. That’s what overplaying the woman card looks like. One wag on Twitter put it this way:

The New York Times did its best to make Trump look like a sexist, but they only succeeded in destroyed their own credibility when their star witness outed them for making up stuff.

Clinton surrogate Ed Rendel said something that was probably harmless in person, and in the proper context, but taken out of context by outragists it sounded like he was saying Clinton supporters are mostly ugly women. That didn’t help.

“What Could Have Possibly Raised Your Costs” – Hillary Can’t Answer Why Obamacare Costs Are Soaring

Tyler Durden's picture

Hillary Clinton’s strategy to get in front of voters and answer one-on-one type questions is not working out very well.

First, Clinton couldn’t explain to an unemployed West Virginian why she was promising to put a lot of coal miners out of work. Now, Hillary can’t explain why Obamacare fees are higher than promised, and are set to explode even higher next year.

During a recent town hall event, a small business owner explained to the Democratic front-runner that her health insurance has gone up so significantly for her family that the thought of providing benefits to her employees is secondary at this point.

“As a small business owner, not only are you trying to provide benefits to your employees, you’re trying to provide benefits to yourself. I have seen our health insurance for my own family, go up $500 dollars a month in the last two years. We went from four hundred something, to nine hundred something. We’re just fighting to keep benefits for ourselves. The thought of being able to provide benefits to your employees is almost secondary, yet to keep your employees happy, that’s a question that comes across my desk all the time. I have to keep my employees as independent contractors for the most part really to avoid that situation, and so I have turnover”

“We do not qualify for a subsidy on the current health insurance plan. My question to you is not only are you looking out for people that can’t afford healthcare, but I’m someone that can afford it, but it’s taking a big chunk of the money I bring home.

To which Hillary responded, to make a long story short, that she knows healthcare costs are going up, and doesn’t understand why that would ever be the case.

AWAKE AMERICANS ARE PREPARING FOR THE REAL ENEMY

April Capped A Record-Setting Year For Gun Purchases

While Hillary Clinton says that, if elected, she would start going after guns on Day One of her theoretical presidency, Americans appear to be doing their level best to make sure Clinton would have a whole lot of guns and gun owners to tackle. The FBI reports that every month for the past year has broken a record for firearm-related background checks in that month. That is, there were more checks in May 2015 than in any previous May, more in June 2015 than in any previous June, and so on from month to month, through April 2016.

During the 12-month period May 2015 through April 2016, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) conducted 25.6 million checks, almost all of which were for firearm acquisitions, firearm purchase permits, and firearm carrying permits which, in some states, exempt their holders from being subjected to an additional check when acquiring a gun.

There’s even an increase in the rate at which the checks are increasing. There were nearly 2.2 million more firearm-related checks conducted during all of 2015 than in 2014, but there have been nearly 2.5 million more checks during just the first four months of this year than during the same four months in 2015.

WHO DO YOU SIDE WITH?

Interesting website that asks you a few questions and then reveals how aligned you are with the various presidential candidates. As someone with libertarian beliefs, I figured I’d be most aligned with Gary Johnson on the issues.

I was somewhat shocked by my result.

I am 94% aligned with Donald Trump on the issues.

I’m least aligned with:

Sanders – 23%

Clinton – 10%

Here is the link to the quiz. See who you are most and least aligned with and report your results.
