GOVERNMENT CONTROL FREAKS WANT TO TAX THE FAT OUT OF YOU

Do Democrat control freaks actually believe the shit they propose will work, or do they just want more tax revenue to support their welfare/warfare state? Do Obama and his minions realize poor people buy most of the cigarettes and eat most of the junk food in this country? Taxing the shit out of cigarettes hurts their main constituency, but I guess they figure the Free Shit Army is too stupid to realize they are getting fucked over by the Democrats they elect. Now they want to fuck over the poor again, with their ridiculous sugar food tax. The idiocy permeating this nation is almost overwhelming in its obscene levels amongst all classes.

Tyler Durden's picture

The totalitarian arm of the ever-growing government appears to know no limit. In today’s “oh no they didn’t” moment, the US Government’s diet panel has dictated proposed one more oppression of American’s freedom to choose:

  • *GOV’T PANEL PROPOSES SUGARY-FOOD TAX TO FUND NUTRITION PROGRAMS, CURB OBESITY

On the bright side, the government approves of “lean meat” as compatible with healthy eating. The bill, introduced by Rep. Juan Candelaria, D-New Haven, would impose a tax of 1 cent per ounce on soft drinks – including sweetened teas, energy drinks and soda – and candies that are high in sugar and calories.

As Bloomberg reports,

Americans should pay taxes on sugary sodas and snacks as a way to cut down on sweets, though they no longer need to worry about cholesterol, according to scientists helping to revamp dietary guidelines as U.S. obesity levels surge.

The recommendations Thursday from the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee also call for Americans to reduce meat consumption and to take sustainability into account when dining.

The panel released its report as the Obama administration seeks ways to fight obesity, which now affects more than one-third of American adults and 17 percent of children, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“What we’re calling for in the report in terms of innovation and bold new action in health care, in public health, at the community level, is what it’s going to take to try and make a dent on the epidemic of obesity,” committee chairwoman Barbara Millen of Millennium Prevention in Westwood, Massachusetts, said in a telephone interview.

Suggestions by the nonpartisan panel of academics and scientists helps shape school lunch menus and the $6 billion a year Women, Infants and Children program, which serves more than 8 million Americans buying groceries from retailers including Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Kroger Co. The recommendations were sent to the two agencies that later this year will issue the final guidelines that are used to create the government’s icon for healthy diets, currently a dinner-plate that replaced the widely used food pyramid.

Government knows best:

“Higher sugar-sweetened beverage taxes may encourage consumers to reduce sugar-sweetened beverage consumption,” according to the advisory panel. “Using the revenues from the higher sugar-sweetened beverage taxes for nutrition health promotion efforts or to subsidize fruits and vegetables could have public health benefits.”

The document states that “lean meats can be a part of a healthy dietary pattern.”

“The food industry is frantic about the guidelines. They don’t want anything in there that says anything about eating less of their products. That’s their concern more than anything else.”

*  *  *

So, expensive non-refined foods are good? And the poorist people – who can’t afford to eat the way the government dictates – will pay all the taxes?

“The bill …. would impose a tax of 1 cent per ounce on soft drinks” ——- from the article

Wow!!

A 7-11 Double Gulp is 50 ounces, and costs about $1.50. So, now it’s $2.00 —- over 30% increase. Sucks to be poor.

On the other hand, drinking less soda can only improve one’s health. (And don’t you dare assume that means I approve of this fucking tax shit.)

This is a three product tax. Food, Beverages, and Tobacco. Most American Tobacco products contain 15-20% of sugar. No wonder they are addictive. Oops, I mean, its the nicotine that is addictive.

My first question is why aren’t they taxing the companies producing products with high sugar contents? Why aren’t they heavily taxing companies that add additional sugar to their products?

Next we’ll see utility surtaxes – using some pseudo-environmentalist excuse. Think of the Pandas?

Also, another IMF success story:

If SNAP shoppers are any indication, they will simply not care about the increase, as they are not paying for it anyway.
I go the grocery store, and spend an average of 120 bucks for 4 people for about 10 days. I will choose to buy 4 top-sirloin grass-fed beef at about 7 bucks for a two-pack (available at my local, small-town grocery store), 2 packages of organic chicken breast (at about 9 bucks each), organic bag of apples, large bag of organic carrots, broccoli, and an eggplant. I can make a whole pan of eggplant parm to feed us for one meal and have left overs for lunches for 2 days. I make my own bread. Organic flour, depending on where you buy, runs about 2.50 a pound. I can get 4 loaves out of a bag. Cheaper and healthier than the commercial stuff.
I buy eggs from a local place, really good ones, free-range pastured chickens, runs me 4 bucks a dozen. A dozen eggs lasts me about a week.
I sometimes buy fish but only wild caught. So not always. That’s about 6 bucks a pound.
yes, we have some snack food, like non-GMO corn chips and organic salsa. The salsa I get at the local Ocean State Job Lot for 2 bucks instead of the 4 bucks at the grocery store. Same with cooking oil, I buy the big bottle of grapeseed oil for 3 bucks there instead of 8 at the grocery store.
If you buy imported pasta you are dodging the GMO bullet and don’t have to spend the big $$ for organic. Store brand imported is a buck a package.
I can get a pack of wild-boar sausage that is hormone free and obviously free range for 5 bucks. I can make a whole pan of sausage and ziti for 7 bucks feeds 4 people for 3 days.
So…how can I manage to eat healthy and not spend 700 a month? NO CRAP. No hostess, no little debbie, no ice cream (well, once in a while), no packaged frozen foods that are just garbage.
We don’t eat at McD or KFC or any of those other places. No soda. No juice. It’s all sugar anyway. Water!
I can make 2 dozen cookies for 3 dollars. why would I buy a processed bag of them for 5?
The simple fact of the matter…people have no clue what portion sizes are, or how to make anything from scratch, nor do they want to. I work a full-time job and have a part time one doing property management. We plan on starting our own garden this year.
If you’re sitting on your butt watching 4, 5, 6 hours of TV a night, STOP. Get up, and go online and read some recipes and make some food for crying out loud. It’s not rocket science.

Eat less sugar, part of a plant, and more artificial sweetener. Tax to subsidize fruit, which contains the same sugar as sugar cane. Head explodes.

And to subsidize WIC, they tax cigarettes, but revenues from that are down because folks are cutting back on smoking because of egregious taxes. Head explodes second time.

@fortressamerica: “eat…more artificial sweetener”? Are you fucking loooney??

“…the FDA still refused to allow NutraSweet on the market. It is a deadly neurotoxic drug masquerading as an additive.” It took arm breaking by Donald Rumsfeld who was CEO of Searle (later bought out by MONSANTO) to get aspartame (Nutrasweet) approved.

Realestatepup – don’t cook with grapeseed oil, that goes rancid when heated. Stick with coconut oil, lard, or good old fashioned rbst free butter.

I’m in favor of MORE TAXES to support the government which protects us in every way from the world’s many evils. Taxes should be paid by the people protected.

Sin and sensual taxes on cigarettes, marijuana, alcohol. lottery tickets. prostitution, sporting events, porn sites, television ownership, theatre tickets, etc should be much higher. These taxes should discourage folks from wasting their time on trivia or behavior detrimental to them that might harm their usefulness to the State.

Since the government nutures all of us Americans, most Americans should pay a living-and-breathing tax. As it would apply to every breath you take, I’d call it the Police tax. Those getting any government aid, or working for a business paid by a government, or a government, would have to pay the tax. For the rest of us, contributing would be voluntary.

Internet sites should be taxed. The more the hate-the-State venom spewed, the higher the site’s tax should be. (Sorry, JQ, that’s what I believe.)

Now that all internet, email, and every other world wide communication is monitored by our governemnt, people criticizing those who rule and care for us should have to pay a word tax on every critical comment.

Those who haven’t served in the miitary (both women and men) should have to pay a yearly Patriot’s tax. That is unless they, like Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, Dick Cheney, or me, were deferred from the military for a higher purpose. All Amerricans should be required to display the State’s flag on their residence. Every school class and every public meeting should begin with the Pledge of Allegiance to our State.

Since the government allows you to keep money paid to you by employers or others, all working people should have to pay a privlege tax for being allowed to work.

Only by paying MORE TAXES to the State will people appreciate all the State does for them.

I’ll leave you with this inspirational message: may God Bless America, the State that I love.

Understandably too stupid to understand what I wrote. They are taxing beverages sweetened by sugar to encourage drinking artificially sweetened poison. Thats why my head exploded, genius. And the fact that they have to keep adding things to tax for WIC is comical, as it was originally only subsidized by smokers. But the taxes have become so high that they are losing that tax base. Look at the laws just proposed today to cut down on that tax loss through internet sales.

We ALREADY have the highest SUGAR taxes in the world.

Which is the reason the soft drink and commercial bakers switched to high fructose corn syrup.

Will they DARE tax that shit?

NOT on your life.

HFCS and processed grains are helping to kill us. Real cane sugar is a long, long, way down that list.

Fuck their recommendations to hell. Eat real fat, eat real protein, eat close to the earth.

Health is within our grasp, but first you have to quit listening to the commercial/government/academic “experts.”
