While I agree government education intentionally dumbs down the populace, these statements are intentionally incorrect. It’s what the younger generation understands ‘irony’ to be.

I hope Jeff is right but most of the younger generation I meet are pretty fucking ignorant and willfully so.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the coming generation of Western Uncivilization use a completely different basis to number the years. Why, in post-Christian America, use a calendar that begins at Christ’s birth? To the uneducated masses, there isn’t much difference between BC (Before Christ)/BCE (Before Common Era) or AD (Anno Domini/In the year of the Lord)/CE (Common Era). For instance, it’s the year 1436 to Muslims, 5775 to Jews, and 4713 to the Chinese. Now that the West is largely casting out Christ, what numeric year will they use in years to come to number their civilization? The idiocy of the potential suggestions is enough to make my head want to explode.

I’m waiting for our years to be expressed in terms of pre and post Internet, based on 1994. Welcome to 2015, or should I say http://21

In one of my college statistics classes we had to do a “survey”, and then write up a report. The survey questions themselves were rather irrelevant … the point was to show if the student mastered various concepts; hypothesis testing, marginal probability distribution, standard deviation, etc etc
Anyway, I did a 20 question survey on religion. Imagine that. ha!
“One of the questions was; “About when was Jesus born?”.
Now, the correct answer, since the survey was done in 1978, would have been, I believe, 1978. If I recall correctly, more than half the students didn’t know! I got various IMPORTANT dates — 1492 and even 1776. College students not even knowing what “A.D.” means? Wow. That was one of my first indications that ‘Murika is fuckin’ DOOMED!

Hey, John
I was writing my “A.D.” post while you were writing yours. Ha!
Near as I can tell …. Jesus wasn’t born in 1978. The correct question would have been “About HOW LONG AGO was Jesus born.”

I figured you accidentally omitted the term “years ago” after “1978.”
I recently watched the saga of the five original Planet of the Apes movies (1968-1973). It gets a little corny toward the end, but there are so many teachable moments and seemingly prophetic utterances and events. Watching what our society has become and is becoming, I feel like George Taylor (Charlton Heston) in the original movie when, upon discovering the Statue of Liberty submerged in the sands along the beach, utters “Damn you all to hell!”

@Rise Up: Linda Harrison was so hot. If I was Col. Taylor and astronauts from the future visited the Planet of the Apes 20 years post hence, they would have thought we were the Duggar family.

Jay Leno’s “Jaywalking” series and Mark Dice’s interviews should leave no doubt in anyone’s mind how ignorant a lot of Americans are. Add to that mix some of the silly utterances of Obama and Hollywood liberals and you’ve got solid evidence of how dumb many Americans are.

had a school resource director come to my work to discuss stratagies for making school kids more employable . omg gmafb ! so I said since your students cant solve a basic math question like what is 10% of $7.20 how can I put them to work when we deal with 10% off coupons . he hung his head in shame actually. then I gave him the example of july 4th holiday and we pay double time for holidays and yet no one under 24 knew what the holiday was for . he hung his head in shame . then I started on how much property tax we paid and what the fuck were we getting for our money . he hung his head in shame for the 3rd time . If they cant do basic math and know crap about history and they have no social skills how the fuck can I put them to work ,sir ? By this time I was pissed .
School gives trophies for participation now , but in a for profit environment um they don’t have a friggen clue as I explained that when I mismanage my business I cant raise his fucking taxes to compensate for my errors .give me a fucking break lol
