Indonesia: Hundreds cheer as unmarried pair are flogged for being ‘too close’
Hundreds of people gathered to cheer as a woman was publicly caned in Indonesia for having affectionate contact with a man who was not her husband. University student Nur Elita was rushed to hospital after receiving five lashes in front of a jubilant crowd.
The 20-year-old was forced to kneel as a masked man whipped her repeatedly outside the Baiturrahim Mosque in Aceh, Indonesia’s only province to enact Sharia law. Her companion, 23-year-old Wahyudi Saputra was also caned. Under Sharia law, unmarried men and women are not allowed to get too close to each other due to the “khalwat” offence.
“Take these punishments as a lesson. What has been done by these convicts should not be taken as an example,” said Banda Aceh Deputy Mayor Zainal Arifin. “And to the public, I ask that you do not isolate those who have been convicted here today. And also, those who have been convicted are reminded not to repeat the same mistakes,” he added.
Elita could be seen doubling over in agony as she was brutally whipped. After the punishment was meted out, she was carried from the stage to an ambulance and transported to hospital to receive treatment.
An additional four men also received five lashes each for gambling, which is a crime under Sharia law. Earlier this year, a district in the conservative Aceh province invoked a bylaw requiring schools to teach boys and girls separately, while another city in the region previously barred female passengers from straddling a motorcycle when riding with a male driver.
When I see things like this, I feel murderous rage. But that’s just their “culture”, isn’t it?
I just want to know how any woman, liberal or not, can think there is anything for her in this vicious creed.
I finally broke down and got a copy of the Qur’an and let me tell you, it is not an easy read. So far it reads like a far less poetic and literary version of the Old Testament and seems quite obsessed with “disbelievers”.
I haven’t gotten to any punishment parts yet. The guy doing the caning in the pic above has a pretty scary costume though, I’ll give them credit for theatrics.

The problem is that you only find things like this reported on internet alternative or obscure news sites that actually are read only by a small number of the population.
You won’t find things that show true Islam on the MSM sources, in fact you’ll find them deliberately suppressed there and out of proportion attacks on anyone that even suggests that Islam is not the best thing since sliced bread (along with constant negative -and often phony- attacks on Christianity).
This is one of the ways the enemies -we have more than just Islam- attack us, and our willingly ignorant acceptance of it is why we are being defeated.

I actually read that thing once in my pre Christian years and all I can really say about it is that it is close to incomprehensible.
Compared to the Bible, it isn’t even qualified as a minor literary work, much less a book of God, his laws, and his plan for us.
It’s easier to use it for specific reference to explain the tenets and practice of Islam than to read it in it’s entirety trying to understand it at the same time.
@Hardscrabble… I got smacked on the shoulders by one of those scary dudes (Mullahs, but we called the religious police) who wore that brown garb and walked the streets of Riyadh looking for evildoers. My friend Debbie and I wore the black abayas over our jeans and t-shirts when downtown, but we didn’t wear scarves. I don’t think my brown hair pissed him off, but Debbie’s blond hair probably drew complaints and is why he was there.
Anyway, he whacked us from the back and babbled something to us and when we turned around someone on the street yelled “Cover your hair!”
We lifted the neckline of our abaya over our head and held it at our chins with one hand, holding it closed at chest level with the other hand.
After that, the guys we were downtown with surrounded us so nothing else happened until we got back. That was close to the end of the ELF-1 days… our welcome there was growing thin.
But, yes… the guys in the brown robes with the sticks are scary.
What kind of morons beat the women who are willing/want to have sex? In any rational society they are cherished. It is no surprise that the countries where this religion holds sway are working their way into the Stone Age a millennia and more after those parts of the world actually led in science.

Good Luck. I did likewise several years ago. I just could not finish it. Got between halfway and three-fourths through when I finally said “Ah Fuckit Akbar!”. It is incredibly boring and REPETITIVE and, quite frankly, ridiculous.

History has demonstrated it certainly doesn’t require religion -any religion- to have a reason to kill, and personal ambition, power and domination of your fellow man seems to have given plenty of people plenty of reason to die for it as long as man has been around.
The anti religion of Communism seems to have racked up a pretty good score over the last century, and there is no “done in the name of god” involved in Communism at all.
