San Francisco has the highest rents for apartments in the U.S. according to a new report from Zumper. A 1 bedroom apartment in the Bay Area would set tenants back $3,330 in rent every month. The Big Apple is also astronomical for renters with a 1 bedroom flat costing up to $3,000 a month. Those can’t be average rental rates.

I just looked up a number of working class job salaries in NYC and none of them could afford to live there and still eat regularly above a subsistence level, much less raise a family, if they were.

Maybe this is for high end luxury apartments and such that the average person doesn’t live in?

Back in 2001, my sister in law was paying $1000 for an old apartment in Burbank. Her husband finally decided it was time to buy when his rent was due to go to $1500 three years later.

That was 2004 when the market was frothy. Today, she says the house next door to her (Arleta, CA) rents for $3500 with $10,000 to get in. These are old houses built in ’81 with ancient TV antennas on the roof.

I have seen ads for house rentals up here in the Antelope Valley. Average size homes, 2000 Sq ft for $1800. Apartment rents that were $150 – $250 20 years ago are now $750 for a cheap apartment in the low rent district.

This place is 560 square feet for $1,950 per month, hardly what I would consider luxury located in West Seattle about 20 minutes from downtown.

It’s nuts!

Greetings,

I’m right here in SoCal and I can tell you that this is a correct representation of what rents are here. If you’ve got 48k a year to spend just on rent, you could be my neighbor!

You can just make it work if you pack in 3 people with $15hr full time jobs. It wont leave them much for anything else but, hey, they get to be my neighbor and watch me walk around in my PJ’s and a Labcoat.

What is exacerbating the rental problem as well as contributing to the rise in homelessness are the so-called property management leaches that have sprung up lately like weeds. They add to the already high monthly rents plus charge exorbitant fees just to get in one. These were created out of the desperate need of real estate people to make a living after they helped ruin the housing market with their commissions. In the apt. arena, also known as cash cows, investment firms usually from out of state buy them up….double or triple the rents kicking out many who have lived in them for years including elderly and the in-firmed who cannot pay, hire cheap mexican labor to clean it up and slap on a coat of paint and call it renovated. All of this for a buck. Shameful.

Do you want to know the REAL problem with high rents in those cities?

It’s just a matter of time before those fuckers move to YOUR city, and pollute the fuk out of it.”

Case in point: Our realtor told us about half of all homes sold in this town/county are NewYawkuhz, specifically many from Laaawng Eyelin … aka Long Island.

Apparently the great the gender confusion, the higher the rent.
