SHOULDA BOUGHT A SNOW BLOWER

The first winter in our new house in 1995 we had a 3 foot snowstorm with 4 and 5 foot drifts. My oldest son was 2 years old. The other two weren’t born. I owned one shovel. It took me six hours to shovel out one side of the driveway. A nice neighbor eventually put a plow on the front of his lawn tractor and cleared the rest for me.

It’s now 22 years later and I still don’t own a snow blower. With three sons and five shovels, we’ve made do over the years. All my neighbors have snow blowers and they only get to use them a couple times per year, so they usually clear my front walk. Only one son at home now, so tomorrow’s blizzard will be a lot of work for the two of us. It looks like I’m in the 18 to 24 inch zone.

If you don’t hear from me after Tuesday, you can assume the Big One was the culprit.

Good luck Jim, i am also in the nice 1ft-2ft strip.
i too refuse to have a snowblower, unfortunately but my boy is only 5yo so he’s still more of a hindrance than a work mule. It’s a chance to get in some serious met-con.

Ah,the value of friends with plows, was that guy for many years, now, nice payback in return. That said,am thinking perhaps time to be a plow guy again, have fun in the snow!Sure, warmer states look nice at end of winter but lets face it,the seasons make us tougher/more adaptable individuals, good training for potential “interesting times”!

Come on,we live in New England,we are used to this stuff!Firewood, extra books to read ect.,hell, could ride out a year with no real medical emergency.

What though is needed is a concentrated invasion of Canada, they clearly cannot get a grip on the cold air in their region though personally believe they could but are just toying with us,grow weary of this disrespect!I will start this off by desecrating maple leaves, that should throw em in a tizzy!

While they are going nuts will then on the border add a few Marshall half stacks and start playing Rush/BTO/April Wine/Triumph backwards, watch their heads explode in fury! The cold air behind the snow is in my opinion a declaration of war!I did not seek this war but will fight it,it’s on!

lol.. bring it beantown!

ah fuck! too funny. I see your BTO and raise you some Queen City Kids, from back where FM is from

You and Admin can dance in the snow.

and Loverboy from Province where Francis lives now.

And be glad when its over.

As for the Cold Air Front FM and myself can’t help you a whole lot. It is big piece of real estate and most of the hot air blows from the middle and Ottawa. Much of it courtesy of this guy.

But seeing as I am a team player and want all you Yanks to like me I will put in some calls and see what I can do.

I will say that you guys are pussies. In February I was snowbound for three days. If you were a part of Franklin Expedition you’d all be doing good to get as far as Labrador.

Rins, split between Boston work and N.H. work, seems N.H. would be better place to be at moment, weird storm this time, usually the opposite. Will soon be back in N.H.,I suppose you folks will throw me a storm for fun there!

Will say when it all gores south are borders will be meaningless between US/Canada,damn,might even have to fight together at times!Go nna take me some time to wrap me head around that one!

Just trying to make a laugh or two.

James only problem with all this is the storm is coming to Nova Scotia after it gets done with you folks. Anyways stay safe. What is ironic is that by the time it gets here it is gonna be rain instead of snow.

You’re right about the border. It is just a line in the woods as far as I am concerned. North America is something that sooner or later all of us are going to have to unite together to fight for.

I have a 6 hp Honda with treads on it. It’s a two stage – can blow snow 50 – 60 feet.

Best purchase I ever made.

I wish I was so lucky. My home is at 7200 foot elevation on the front range of Colorado, We have had little to no snow this winter. My usual plow is an antique Oliver dozer. Have not fired him up this winter. Last time for this type of weather was ’13. We lost about 500 homes and 15,000 acres of forest. Dozers can come in handy for many things. Be careful what you wish for and happy shoveling.

I’m in a similar predicament. I’ve come to the conclusion that when a person reaches 50 years old they should move south. I’m thinking: Texas, baby.

NO!NO!NO! I realize that it seems inviting/warm/peaceful ect. but you miss out on the four seasons you get all soft and spongy like a twinkie!Look, can understand perhaps in the middle of a cold winter visiting south for say a week/break up the seasonal affectual disorder ect. but to do it permanently, you will soon be no better then a ball of play doo fitness wise and mentally.

We as a nation must get stronger to face the “interesting times” that are coming for us,not softer!

We got some snow yesterday. Spring snows can be nasty to shovel by hand because it is so wet/heavy. At the end of last season, I bought this Ariens Deluxe 28″ walk-behind and it is great for walks and medium sized driveways. It handles wet snow great. I spray vegetable oil in the shoot and it helps prevent the wet/heavy stuff from clogging. It may be a little too big of a beast for most womenfolk, tho. FYI.

Anyway, pardon the pun here, but…. I ….am…. “digging” it. Bwwwaaahhhaaa…

Shoveling is easy. It’s got a quiet rhythm and flow with its own reward. The stuck shxt drains out of your brainpan as blood flows to muscle, sweat to skin. Sun on your back and white all around you, the satisfaction of a job done well. Shoveling is easy. Sitting in a cubicle, with no window, staring at a screen, that’s fucxin hard.

If it were up to me, I’d get a snow blower and hire kids to mow the lawn, but I hate mowing grass while operating a snowblower seems like it would be kinda fun.

In ’95, I was living in Wilmington, DE. That was a whopper of a blizzard, for sure. City crews brought out dump trucks and contractors with loaders scooped snow from the main streets into the trucks for dumping into the Delaware. Neighborhood people tried shoveling the snow from the narrow, 19th century streets, but there was no place to put it because the city required property owners to shovel the sidewalks in front of their houses.

A few days later, the temperature climbed to over 50 at night and the snow melted away during the next few warm days. I never got around to buying a snowblower and now I’m living just below the bottom edge of the projected storm. There’s my whole boring comment on the late winter blizzard thing.

Sad part is that storm is coming here and it ain’t even on the news… yet. Looks like you better get your ass to Wildwood Admin. 15 bottles of wine is not a good prescription when picking your bracket.

In my neck of the woods of Peeaay, the zombie hordes like to stock up on bread, milk and toilet paper before any possible stormageddon or snowpocalypse.

The grocery store was crazy yesterday as the hordes stripped the aisles of these three critical, life sustaining items.
