Anti-technology trends

Hey, TBP’ers! Today’s post is a request to think outside the box. I’m wondering what people might think are good (FUTURE) anti-technology trends to invest in now.

And by investment, I mean either find companies that are already “against the grain” when it comes to all this social media stuff and smartphone nonsense. Or starting a NEW business NOW – which has not “caught on” yet in terms of popularity – but EVENTUALLY WILL considering the trajectory we’re on.

new ideas first for anti-technologyNot just prepping or SHTF stuff, either

Yes – there are many “doomsday” type businesses thriving in this current environment. Prepping being a big one. They make tons selling both survival equipment, canned food products, etc. Guns are doing especially well too.

But I’m thinking along a different line.

Predicting a future business that is not in existence today.

What business would thrive (if) people turned away from technology?

While I’m sad to suspect that all this easy technology is actually attracting MORE people than it is pushing away – someone has to “short” this market just in case.

And besides the already-established “prepping” and “survival” markets – there has to be something that enterprising individuals can start doing NOW – in order to be prepared for (if and) when the tide turns.

I have few ideas that immediately come to mind. I’m just wondering if anyone else has some good thoughts. Especially ones that can “scale” quickly (i.e., become mainstream almost overnight – like those stupid fidget spinners).

    • Technology detox camps for children. This is a great idea – and I wouldn’t be surprised if they aren’t already in existence. But today’s kids are dumb as fuck, and cannot handle most real-world experiences individually – without the aid of the robot brain called the internet and their devices. A detox camp would be great for parents to toss their poorly-raised kids in for a month or two to get a taste of life without tech.In the process, they could probably learn skills, both physical and intellectual. I know Hardscrabble Farmer has kids intern on his farm for the summer, but that scale is, while real as can be, only a couple kids a year.Maybe a “scared straight” type program for troubled techno-kids?

    • Anti-tech shock bracelets. Yes, extreme. But for those who want – but cannot escape their mental prison. Some kind of bracelet that detects wi-fi and cellular signals – and SHOCKS the person after some pre-determined amount of time.

    • Anti-liberal programming. Sure there is plenty of “alt-right” nonsense on the web. But very little on “TeeVee.” Plus all the BS commercials are so liberal, it’s sickening. What would it take to make a huge profit from this?

    • Amish expansion. Regardless of what you believe or think about the Amish – something profoundly positive about them. Maybe they need to figure out a way to “convert” ordinary people into Amish. It would likely screw with their already screwed up bloodlines – but I see this as a viable way to bring people closer to good things.

What could you or I do as “individuals” to capitalize?

Yeah, some of my ideas are just ideas.

But are there any practical things WE can do today to position ourselves to be able to profit as people begin to see the writing on the wall? Besides “investments” in the fake stock market or precious metals?

I mean there are a decent number of people who hate Zukerfuk now as it is. But what if that number goes up exponentially in the next year or two? The mainstream morons are screwing up left and right. How long before the make a massive screw up? (Like everyone’s personal info on Fakebook is “leaked?”)

What if 10% of the country (or more) kicked social media to the curb? Or wanted to find more meaningful things to do rather than “binge watch” some stupid shows? (We suspect that is the reason you can drive through almost any suburban community and see NO ONE walking around.)

In order to win – you need to be first (or very close)

I guess my main point is – that to position yourself right – you really need to be first, second – or the best – when this new market emerges (if ever).

So I’m wondering more about any NEW ideas that have not yet been implemented in any successful way – that would serve as a formidable hedge against where we are today.

Then again – asking publicly for that would likely result in very few promising concepts – as most people would keep the lid shut for themselves.

But it never hurts to ask: “What is the next big idea that will win if the tide turns on “technology?”

About Hoboken411

We’ve been “blogging” as Hoboken411 since before Twatter and Fakebook infected the masses. Back in 2005, it was all about politics and other bullshit in and around Hoboken, New Jersey (and the tri-state NYC area in general). But since those social media “apps” have amazingly coerced the majority of the populous to “blog for free” (to make Fuckerberg insanely wealthy) we’ve taken a slightly different approach. We talk about whatever the fuck we feel like talking about (including some things in Hoboken). But our main objective is to slap the “mentally-enslaved morons” (as Mark Dice eloquently says) upside the face with a dose of reality. We know full well that most people won’t be receptive to our ideas all the time. But feathers get ruffled to this day still – which means (as they say in the medical industry): “It’s working!”

Who knew there were flyover types in Hoboken, New Jersey?

I have taken to losing my phones on a regular basis. I think it is a deeply seated (or seeded?) loathing for the need to have a telephone connection to the world available at all times. Think of a snowstorm that cuts off power and communication lines for days and think about the things one would need to get through that natural disaster. Multiply that by 20 trillion.

I guess I need to get my MURS radios charged and on solar batteries. Oh, and I need to make a new channel grid for local chatterboxes on the airwaves. You see, with MURS frequencies, you do not need a license to transmit, but the distance is limited by the power restrictions. So, if someone could grasp that a prepared list of local MURS radio broadcasters (if any) for people like me who are prepared to listen and pass information might be a valuable thing to put together ahead of time.

Oh, and if you haven’t located other MURS users in the area, look for the marines. And former radar and radio operators.

Oh, I think “anti-technology” camps are already planned.

On a massive scale.

With a bit more than “shock bracelets” and such.

Which might explain prepper and gun sales.

But that’s just me and my tin-foil-lined K-Pot talking…

About 10 years ago I thought about becoming Amish-ish. Not interested in their religion or funny facial hair, but loved the idea of their relative independence from the modern world and their seemingly old-fashioned skills. They seem to embody the “just leave me the fuck alone to do my thing and I’ll leave you alone to do your thing” mentality that I like. I like the idea of a local network of like minded folks who know the value of a hard day’s work and a job well done. Once HSF started posting here, I knew that he had pretty much what I envisioned, although the place in my mind was more southern with less harsh winters.

Maggie: good reply but you forgot Ham radio folks. You are absolutely correct that listening is equally as important as talking, maybe even more so. I peruse the internet(obviously), check out the latest radar summary, weather forecasts, email, listen to talk radio(I Heart), &TC all on my I phone. I am not on facebook, twitter, or any other social medial. Mrs Ragman and I really appreciate Face Time with the grand kids, it’s almost like being with them. For those of us that actually DO things, Youtube is an incredible resource! Technological advances have enriched my life and enabled me to unheard of things, especially with my hand-held device.

I don’t forget the Hams, but that requires licensing. In our little group in OKC, we had certain designated people who purchased the portable antenna for extending transmission coverage, which would requires a power boost you would not want TRACKED, so the need for a mobile power source to move the antenna to a location that would not seem obviously tied to its OWNER is one way to boost the signal’s reach and into a different MURS region. In OKC, we did some experimenting and found the reach to be reasonably easy to use at 3 to 5 miles but beyond that was unreliable without a signal boost.

And, yes… I have an antenna here with me, but have not determined my immediate neighbors to be MURS discussion friendly. However, the retired marine a few miles away listens at noon for a half hour.

These are habits and skills you simply work into your schedule and tuck into your mind. Neighbor X is trustworthy because he is retired USMC, locks and guards his property with guns and big dogs, and he waited to meet us until we recognized his signal to us. Neighbor Q does not seem trustworthy because they go to church a lot and don’t like my dogs. Just information that may or may not mean something.

I’m curious-were you just throwing that out there about going to church making them untrustworthy or is there something about christians one can’t trust?

Hand-made tools of high quality: knives, axes, shovels, etc. I hink demand for these will increase. Outdoor and craft work will again be more prevalent.

Speaking of “Pot” there and investment in the anti-tech future? Does anyone follow the upcoming legalization of recreational marijuana in Canada, which has been medical cannabis friendly for years, but resistant to crossing this boundary? Well, if I were the type to invest in medical marijuana growers and distributors from the Northern USA, I might think that the new customers in Canada are gonna outnumber supply pretty quickly and for a while.

How about a bunch of smart mechanics that open a business to take out all the tracking crap that comes in new cars, while still keeping the efficiency, power, and road worthiness of the new car intact? Some of that crap is buried so deep in the engine and computer system of the car that it will take a team of rocket scientists to figure out how to remove it without trashing the engine.

How about anti-thermal and anti-drone technology? Perhaps coming up with a paint or lining for your home that prevents thermal viewing and messes up any type of audio spying as well.

I think passive systems that preserve as much of our privacy as we can, while we fight the legislative battles against it are the future…at least until the balloon goes up.

There WAS a passive system in use for decades that prevented most spying on your domicile, but it was banned by the EPA because of the fear of kids eating flakes of it….

Blocked thermal and many electronic waves to scan your home.

Now, best way to prevent electronic surveillance through your walls is to sandwich chicken wire under your drywall, but you won’t have the precious Wi-fi connectivity outside the router room.

There are ways to shield EMF, for example

YShield High Frequency Shielding Paint

Easy to apply water-based paint for walls, ceilings, doors and other interior OR exterior surfaces. Very effective for blocking cell phone signals, CB, TV, AM, FM signals, radio frequency radiation and microwaves. Tested highly effective up to 18 GHz!

Prepping, anti-tech and reality, my ass.
Try farming. Grow some trees, veggies and fruit as one can.
Drought, flooding, weeds, bugs, deer, rodents and the tax man are driving me to drink, a lot of water.
Diesel fuel is what I want, Kerosene stores longer. 500 gallons safely buried would be nice.
Anti-tech detox camps, come on, give me a break, call Opra or Jerry Springer for real help.

Propane is a good alternative to diesel. Diesel engines, while normally very reliable and definitely most efficient, are expensive.
Propane conversions to gas engines are relatively cheap and the fuel stores well long term. Drawback would be resupply during a protracted shit-on-the-fan-blades incident. Definitely need to include a sufficiently sized tank in the planning.

Not really a “bigger tank” kind of problem – if someone else is filling that tank, what happens when that “someone else” dies, moves or runs out of supply?
You sort of need self-sufficiency in energy. Ideally, you have a small (or even medium) gas deposit on your land. You have someone drill it, perf it, and you put in the equipment needed to sweeten / dry your gas, and fractionate it (natgas, ethane, propane, NGLs), and you use that. If no gas deposit, solar, wind, hydro, whatever.
But you have no idea how long the “long emergency” will last; a month, six months, a year, ten? No tank small enough to fit on a typical homestead will store enough propane to ride out ten years. Better to pick a different method.

Given the Boomer statistics, investing in death related services seems like a no brainer. Plenty of boomers are going to need to be “cooked off” in the next couple of decades. Build a facility in a large metro area that can safely handle the obese without creating a grease fire that burns the whole place down and “they will come”.

I also think second hand stores that specialize in older ‘Murican made goods will be big at some point. In the short term you could cater to the idiots who piss away money on useless crap they don’t really need. Think “Fred G. Sanford”. This could be started as a side business/hobby until it becomes a going concern. Couple that with a repair service for squeezing more life out of existing goods would be good to but both would require a broad range of knowledge. I’m a “tinker” by nature so I already do this kind of thing for myself and a few others.

“Jambox” creates a circle X-hundred yards in radius that blocks, jams and distorts all broadcast signals including wifi, TV, and radio. When you want to prevent anyone from spying on you, Jambox gets it done; any spy devices inside your perimeter will not be able to get out to report, while your signals are wired anywhere you need them and to outside devices ONLY if you want them.
The NSA can listen, but they cannot hear you with Jambox!

Zen Buddhism is about as anti-technology as it gets.

Today’s lesson:

A young chinese couple had illegitimate sex and produced a baby out of wedlock. Fearing great loss of face, they decided to blame the local Buddhist Monk. “It’s his baby,” the young woman cried.
The monk said, “And so it is,” and took the child in his arms.
After many months had passed, the young couple came to regret their decision, and finally admitted to their friends and family that the child really was theirs, and that they had blamed the monk wrongly. They went to the monk, and demanded that he return the child. “That’s our baby!” the young father exclaimed.
The monk placed the child in the father’s arms and said, “And so it is.”

I had a dream Americans were allowed to produce trade goods again. In order for this to be realized, we would have to be educated on the basics of small scale production.
Since I’m in favor of bypassing the Marxist College racket; I would propose publishing a series of pamphlets containing practical information on equipment and skills needed to produce textiles or garments or coffee cups, glassware and dishes.
I’ve noticed it is easier to obtain Pornography than it is to find some basic information on Crop production or food packaging.
If the old world of Consumption is drawing to a close, and it sure seems as though that door is creaking, then some concrete knowledge would be an unalloyed blessing.
