Real Male Earnings Still Below 1973 Level: Household Income Gains Entirely Due To Rising Female Earnings

Authored by Mike Shedlock via MishTalk.com,

The Census Bureau report Income and Poverty in the US 2016 shows real household income in the US hit a new record high of $59,039 in 2016, thanks to a methodology change and rising incomes of women.

Real, inflation adjusted, earnings of men are below where they were in 1973.

Methodology Change Impact on Earnings

Methodology Change Impact on Poverty

New Record

The Wall Street Journal reports U.S. Household Incomes Rose in 2016 to New Record.

Widening Inequality

Hooray!

Slightly more than half of US households are now back to where they were in 2000.

For income, there were statistically significant differences for many key measures between the redesigned and traditional questions.

For example, median household  income calculated by using the redesigned questions was 3.2 percent higher than the median income found using the traditional questions.

When all else fails, change the methodology.

We don’t live in the same economy we did in 1973 where men were expected to be the major or sole support of the family.

Today, a family isn’t even necessarily expected to have both a man and a woman in it.

And a household is not necessarily a family today the way it was most likely to be in ’73.

Times have changed, for better or worse is something for you to decide.

I would jump at the chance to go back to 1973.

I’m not going to say “yay women”. Women being forced into the workforce to try to make ends meet (look up how much credit card debt there is in this country) rather than women being able to stay at home and raise a family (if that is what they want, which many, if not most women want) isn’t a benefit to the women or this country. I’m never going to regret not fighting for a promotion to a higher paying, high stress job – I’m always going to regret not having kids and staying home to raise them.

Unlike the SJWs I am a real feminist. Women should be able to feel free to be feminine and do what they want and do best – and having and raising children should be at the top of the list.

The industries that paid the wages that gave men the ability to support a wife and children are gone in the numbers sufficient to support our country and the people depending on it . Women are free to choose family or work BUT unless the man is in some business or government job there will be hardship decisions ecpecially concerning middle or higher lifestyle !
My mother in law was a homemaker of the greatest example I can think of . She managed a household budget paid a mortgage put 3 children thru Catholic school several trips to Florida with Disney World in the mix bought a nice camper and nestled it in a nice park at the beach on a seasonal lot rental with beach pool fishing etc… Pop Pop was a GM assembly line worker and worked his way up to the inspector position . Meanwhile Mom Mom took care of the home and family clipping coupons and shopping sales stocking the freezer saving so every child’s birthday and Christmas was an extravaganza .
That GM plant is gone and all the industries that supplied it as we went to a global economy . In translation , corporations were able to shut down here relocate to a third world nation with a labor force willing to work for slave labor wages with politicians blessing and cashing in all the way as middle America folds . The tax base that supported cities and infrastructure gone . State and local budgets indebted with no one to fleece for expenses so they borrowed and borrowed and now what happened to American industrial workers is happening to police fire teachers and other government employees and their pension and benefits “POOF” like a fart in the wind .
Good thing we TARPED OVER EVERYTHING !
