Repentance and Forgiveness the Wellspring of Joy

Guest Post by Jesse

Into the ancient holy land
Behold, the son of God is come to man.

Hoc est enim corpus meam.

In Innocence fall all heroes and their creeds;
An age is done, an age from here proceeds.

Hic est enim calix sanguinis mei,
Novi et aeterni testamenti.

What consuming pagan fires could not do—
A covenant of love, and Word made flesh, in You.

Qui pro nobis et pro multis effundetor;
In remissionem peccatorum.

Sleep swells His breast, though heavy pressed,
By Golgotha, and Adam’s sin,
And the hopes of he who signs his name herein.

Jesse

What a wonderful condescension and extravagance we have from God.   For although we were made and formed in His image, He has sanctified that image, and thereby redeemed us in His Incarnation.

Stocks drifted today for the most part, particularly in the afternoon when most traders have already left for their holidays.

Gold and silver have rebounded nicely from the recent shenanigans practiced in the markets around the FOMC meeting and Non-Farm payrolls.  Again, I urge you to look at all the instances of this on the gold chart.

President Trump signed the Tax Reform and Jobs Act today, and then left for the holidays at his home in Florida.

Matt Taibbi had some rather pointed observations and disclosures to make about Bob Corker and his penchant for trading stocks as a Senator, presumably on privileged information, with multi-million dollar success. Of course he is not alone in this, as I have pointed out many times in the past.  Hillary’s remarkable success as a novice cattle trader comes to mind.

The corruption that has become widely tolerated throughout the various upper strata of our society is shocking in its boldness.  And even more shocking is its general acceptability, and too often downright fashionability,  among our elite in business and government, and their courtiers and partisans in the various professions.  And it provides a corrosive example and temptation to the public.

That such gaming the system is widely tolerated and accepted does not make it right.  The breaking of oaths is a serious transgression, and there will be an accounting for it, if not in this world then the next.

And sadly it is the partisanship, and the willing gullibility of simple souls given over to the wiles of a skillful persuasion to anger, and willfulness, and hatred, that permits the unscrupulous to prosper.   I have seen otherwise honorable and sincere people do and say some shocking things in service to dark powers in the past few years.

There can be little doubt that even the ordinary are learning from our cynical and proud elite.  And that scandalous example is their sin as well.

All the preparations for Christmas are coming to their conclusion.

Looking back on this rather difficult year, I ask forgiveness of all those to whom I have caused distress or temptation to anger, because of my actions or lack of actions.

I have asked God for His forgiveness in all things, and so I also ask for your forgiveness, and your prayers.  I am a most unworthy servant.  I charge nothing and accept nothing, for that is what my work is worth.

May you and yours walk with the Lord, in His favor and the light of the Spirit, in all that you do in the coming year.

And may the peace of the Lord, which surpasses all understanding, be with you in this blessed season.

I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas.   I will be posting somewhat during the interregnum before the new year.

Have a wonderful holiday.

Lots of Latin in the beginning of that post. I wasn’t exposed to too much of that, being on the trailing edge of the Boomer window of years. But, the older Roman Catholics I know certainly had Mass experiences in Latin.

If time allows, read the Wikipedia article about Gregorio Allegri, who wrote Misereme a long, long time ago.
The BBC at one time had a great documentary about this music, and how an early Pope mandated that is was so angelic with it’s notes, that it could only be sung in the Sistine Chapel.
A young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart heard it there, and subsequently went home and transcribed what he heard FROM MEMORY, and thus became one of the first bootleg editions of a ‘protected’ tune.
The version by the Tallis Scholars is outstanding, and I came across this courtesy of a guy named Ed Steer, who used to write for King World News, on financial matters and economic happenings. Anyway, I’m giving credit where it’s due.
The music will prolly not be enjoyed by all, but for those who can handle it, there is some talent. It’s almost haunting, and would, for me, send chills through me, if I could hear it performed live in an outstanding acoustic setting, or an old Catholic church. Probably during Holy Week, leading up to Good Friday. But, I’ve rambled too much already. Hope you can appreciate this.

Wow, that rendition was absolutely great! Even the church architecture and artwork alone was worth the watch.

“I ask forgiveness of all those to whom I have caused distress or temptation to anger, because of my actions or lack of actions.”

“I have asked God for His forgiveness in all things, and so I also ask for your forgiveness, and your prayers.”

To not forgive means to hold on to resentment. That is, to relive/re-feel the anger of something that has passed and is no longer happening. Anger is natural and is a call to action in most situations. Expressing anger is better than repressing anger and letting it linger. For me when I recognize anger inside of me, I can then act up in ways that do not perpetuate the Karpman’s triangle dynamic of victim -> blame -> perpetrator.

To forgive is not to forget. It is not to take actions to seek revenge.
This is not to say there will not be consequences if certain actions/behaviors continue.

I acknowledge anger and forgive to avoid the toxic effects of resentments for it is like drinking rat poison and expecting the rat to die.
In AA it is said resentment is the “number one” offender – leading to more drinking, drugging and acting out past traumas with dysfunctional behaviours.

Forgiveness is more the province of Easter to me than Christmas. But without it, it is difficult to experience the joy of the season and the reason we celebrate it. Jesus died so we may be forgiven. The New Testament gave succor to us sinners.

I forgive so my life is more more free from all forms of spiritual
dis-ease. I forgive for my benefit; it is not to excuse actions of others. I invite and sometimes beg for forgiveness from others, not so much for me though my life is better with it, but for the spiritual health of those who harbor anger towards me.

I forgive to not experience resentments. I like this link that explains what it means in 12 step programs.

You hit a lot of nails on the head w/ that one KS. While reading, I was reminded of a few things…the Catholic Act of Contrition prayer, a few lessons as put forth in books by Dr. Wayne Dyer, and by Earl Nightengale in his “Lead the Field” audio series.
But, I think you’ve hit the core of why so many marriages fail, or jobs are hated but kept, good friendships destroyed, etc.
Offenses incurred, whether real or perceived, are at the heart of a lot of the anger & strife.
What’s so profound to me, is how difficult it is to let bygones be bygones. I’d heard Wayne say: “You can forgive, but you don’t have to forget.”
I’ve said to people when describing the grudges I still carry: “Wounds heal over time, but deep cuts leave scars that don’t disappear.”
Unconditional Forgiveness is, in my opinion, the single hardest lesson for mortals to learn and put into practice, as Christ tried to teach His followers, in the New Testament.
It put forth a new way of thinking about how to react to mistreatment.
I’ve heard ‘repent’ actually means to ‘rethink’ your reactions and thoughts. Hmmmm.
Anyway, good post on your part. Merry Christmas.

I agree with the post but ” Our Cynical and Proud Elites ” are going to take the rest of us down with them.At least for a while.I don’t think many will be so forgiving after they have lost most of what they have worked for . The worse thing is these Treasonous bastards don’t care if they ruin our nation and Destory our Republic.
