Methinks that, for the good of the country, it is time that the “Alt-Right,” those bitterly hostile to our Latin-America population, stop and think. There is a difference between opposing further immigration, a good idea, and constantly attacking American citizens.
Many good reasons existed for preventing massive immigration from the south. But it happened. Some forty-five million legal Hispanics (whatever exactly the word means) are now in America, mostly citizens. They show no signs of leaving. They cannot be deported. Their children become citizens. It is unlikely that many of the (very vaguely) estimated twelve million illegals will be deported or chased out.
It is my sincere desire to provide readers of this site with the best unbiased information available, and a forum where it can be discussed openly, as our Founders intended. But it is not easy nor inexpensive to do so, especially when those who wish to prevent us from making the truth known, attack us without mercy on all fronts on a daily basis. Given this reality, the question becomes, or should become, what to do to, for, with, or about these people? The future of the country very much depends on the answer
A beginning would be not to turn them into another dysfunctional, hostile racial minority–which is exactly what the Alt-Right seems bent on doing. Blacks, thirteen percent of the population, appear irremediably angry with obvious untoward consequences. If the Alt-Right can make another seventeen percent into internal enemies, it will be the end of anything recognizable as America.
Yet from the organs of the Alt-Right–Vdare, Breitbart News, and so on–comes a drumbeat to the effect that Latin-Americans are stupid, filthy, lazy, criminal, and parasitic. Mr. Trump, hostile to Mexico and Mexicans, has called them “rapists,” which resonates in Latin America much as Hillary’s “deplorables” speech did in Middle America. We have hysterical books painting them as the end of civilization and human decency. (Ann Coulter’s ¡Adios, America! The Left’s Plan to Turn Our Country into a Third World Hellhole comes to mind.)
Yet from the Alt-Right comes no suggestion of practical policy toward the permanent Latin population. Hatred is not a policy.
What to do?
The choices available to the country, other than doing nothing, are to encourage, or to discourage, assimilation. For the good of the United States, assimilation seems much the better choice. Diversity is almost always a disaster, but, if you already have it, and it is not going to leave, the best hope is to assimilate it, to encourage the diverse to move into the middle class and stop being very diverse.
Can Latin Americans be assimilated? Maybe, maybe not. Walking around Los Angeles, San Antonio, Houston, or in Chicago, where relations seem entirely amicable, suggests “yes.” The “not” arises largely from the possibility that the combined influence of the Alt-Right and black racial animosity will drive young Latin men into the current anti-white insanity.
My own experience suggests that assimilation can be accomplished. In these matters I may have more experience than most of the Alt-Right. I have lived in Mexico for sixteen years. My wife is Mexican, we speak Spanish in the home, and we have toured the country from one end to the other. I have traveled extensively in all the countries of South America except Paraguay and Venezuela. Nowhere (with the exception perhaps of parts of Central America) have I seen the hellholes imagined–I might almost say “fervently desired”–by the Alt-Right. Lima, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Bogotá, Montevideo and many others are modern cities, with airlines, telecommunications, skyscrapers, and so on. Hellholes? I wonder whether Miss. Coulter has been in Latin America.
On the site of American Renaissance, which takes a very dim view of Latin-Americans, I have seen links to a pair of studies by the Pew Research Center. The first, from 2013, found that 89% of American-born Latins are proficient in English. astonishing as sunrise. The second found that succeeding generations are losing their identification as Hispanics, also hardly a surprise, and also that intermarriage is high. Is this not assimilation?
America’s various minorities are not identical. The Latins are Christian, speak a European language, do not drive airplanes into buildings or shoot up homosexual nightclubs, do not have Brown Lives Matter or the Knockout Game, do not mutilate their daughters or discourage them from going to university, do not engage in honor killings.
Consider a not-very-hypothetical Rosa born of illegal parents in Los Angeles, age nineteen, speaking unaccented California English, and pecking at her cell phone. She will not be seen as very Mexican by young Anglo men. Language is a powerful marker of difference. Rosa is also likely to be pretty, which will not hinder assimilation.
The second available policy toward Latins is to discourage assimilation. This won’t work for long (see Rosa, above). Such discouraging is the obvious if unacknowledged desire of the Alt-Right. The Anit-Latinos tend to frame their hostility in terms of objective traits real or imagined–Latins don’t learn English, do commit crimes, live on welfare, take American jobs. Yet one requires little reading to see that their real objection is racial.
In today’s climate of compulsory right-thought, wanting to maintain one’s race and culture is bad, very bad. Actually of course it is an age-old instinct and practiced by Japanese, Chinese, Jews, white nationalists, Latin Americans, and pretty much everybody else. It does not well survive assimilation.
The problem vis-a-vis the Alt-Right’s desire for racial purity is that Latins, who are not going to go away, cannot change their race. This means that no matter what they do, how many languages they learn, how many degrees they earn, or taxes they pay, the Alt-Right will loathe them. I wonder: Should this loathing be permitted to shape the future of the country?
Assimilation and racial purity being incompatible and diametrically opposed, we must choose. You can have one, or the other, but not both. To discourage assimilation, one needs to maximize bad relations between Latin and Anglo. This seems exactly what the Alt-Right is determined to do.
Racial hostility explains the profound ignorance of most of the Alt-Right of South America. Read their websites, their comments. They seem to have no curiosity as to where the immigrants come from, what manner of wights they be, or what they can do or have done. This is not the place for a disquisition on Latin American culture. Still, anyone of intellectual breadth must be aware of the rich and extensive body of music, literature, poetry, and cinema of southern lands. All of this can easily be found on the internet. One may wonder why the Alt-Right has not bothered. Ask who Carlos Monsivais was , or Octavio Paz. You will get get a black stare.
More culpable are the leaders of the Alt-Right, highly intelligent and educated people, most of them talking heads of the DC-Manhattan bubble. They are not of limited mind and could afford to learn what they are talking about. They do not. They are misrepresenting peoples they have never met, civilizations they have never seen. They regard this a patriotism.
Finally, though perhaps in offense to literary continuity, it is interesting to look at the logic, if that is quite the word, of much of the Alt-Right’s cultivation of hostility. They say that “Mexicans take American jobs.” How? Does Pedro put a pistol to an American worker’s head and say, “Geeve me zee shoffel or I blow your brines out”? Or do American businessmen, to make more money, hire countless Pedros, knowing perfectly well that they are illegal? Do Mexicans attach wheels to American factories by dark of night and roll them to Tampico? Or do American corporations, to make more money, build factories in Mexico? Who is taking American jobs?
The Latins are in America to stay. Love it or hate it, it is over, a done deal. How do we make the best of i–which may not be very bad?

Fred is, again, taking the backwards approach with his ‘sure, preventing further immigration might be a good idea, but what to do about the millions already here’ line. This is the same approach used by the left. Amnesty now, security later. ‘What to do about the ones already here’ isn’t a discussion or debate I’m willing to have until the border is fixed, chain migration is ended, this stupid ‘diversity visa’ program is ended, and there is a massive reduction in legal immigration, including so called ‘merit based’, and gotten rid of our insane illegal coddling policies. THEN we can have a discussion about ‘those already here’.
Personally, I don’t believe we can ex-post facto revoke citizenship from anyone. But, we CAN end this ridiculous birth citizenship law, so that it no longer applies. And rewarding people, the so called dreamers, because they have been breaking our laws for a long time need to go, too. Personally, I think the ‘Ron Paul approach’ of removing the massive financial incentives for people to sneak in here would be the most effective way of ending a lot of it.

Agreed. Ending free shit is the correct way to do this. Security becomes moot if incentive goes away. But it doesn’t really mattter, because won’t happen. The left has played the “Trump Bad” card and their ” Everything’s Raycist” trump card well. Anything approaching ending the free shit spigot will get shouted down. Lot’s of important people make lots of money and garner lots of votes because of free shit, so there is no chance of it ending from the top down.
Like most problems in the world today, it cannot simply be fixed…they are pregnant woman-type problems as opposed to light bulb problems (Steve Martin explains below).
Ultimately, the system will collapse and no one will want to come here. This particular problem will be solved and a whole host of far worse ones will come home to roost. At the end of the day, this is just one more hot-button, emotionally driven issue designed to keep the system going and the population vehemently divided. We (the general population of the US) are being managed like a Vegas betting line, while the House cleans up. So it goes.

As I said above, ending these financial incentives would go a long way towards fixing this. Many will self deport. Saves us money by purging the welfare rolls AND we don’t have to grow the police state to do it.

Also, the ‘third world immigrants are good for the economy’ argument is easily the most self disproving argument there is. If Mexicans were so great for an economy, then Mexico, which somehow has even more mexicans than the US, should be booming. But, its not. Before we make the determination that some third world nationality is going to provide such an economic boon for the US, surely they could be asked to prove that in their own country first, right?

There are hell holes in every country (plenty of them right here in the good ole US of A), just as there are wonderful neighborhoods. Often they are separated by surprisingly small distances. Fred mentions Bogota, I have been there many times. It is a beautiful city in many ways…and the people are mostly cordial, open and friendly.
I have only been to the north side, however. My wife, who has lived there many years at different times during her life, has also never been to the south side.
Calling entire cities or regions hell holes is both inaccurate and intellectually lazy, but it certainly fits with our sound-bite culture.

Do these immigrants have large families in spite of being poor. Is that even sensible when the costs of living are high in their adopted country, where basic education is critical, where a lot of things can go wrong in poor neighborhoods, like gangs and an outlook on life tilted away from appreciation for living in a land of opportunity and toward resentment for what others have?
Seems that every group has attributes that can offend some other group and then when you have a plethora of groups all mixed together, the problems multiply in complexity. Nothing is easy and tranquil and pleasant. I can remember when there were 180 million people in the U.S. and virtually all of them but the blacks and Native Americans were “assimilated.” People felt safe in their homes and on the streets. Families prospered. Jobs were available. The future looked bright for kids. Then came the socialists, civil rights, preferences, welfare, big gov’t, and all the rest. Then came the immigrants who were much less interested in adopting the culture of their new country but in keeping what they ran from. Human nature, I suppose, and why the American Indians were constantly at war with one another’s tribe. Every group throughout history has called itself “the people.” Other people were not “the people.” Apparently, people like to associate with their own people. Why is that so hard to understand? Or is the immigration of people not inclined to assimilate just a ploy to gain voters, tax receipts that go to pay for Social Security for the old, new consumers for big business, an expanding government full of bureaucrats and power junkies, and a means to divide and conquer?

Fred, I for one agree with you 100%. Although, commenters who propose taking people off the government dole also have a point. However, that point applies to everyone on the government dole, not just Mexicans. In other words, we could solve a lot of problems if we took Mexican’s, blacks, poor whites, wealthy whites, and corporations off government assistance.
With that being said, I suspect many of the alt-Right folks are too young to remember when the “immigrants” from Europe invaded our shores. They may have come here legally, but they were determined to preserve their culture. In fact, in the Lithuanian/Polish neighborhood in Chicago where I grew up, English was at best a third language. Polish and Lithuanian parades were common in the neighborhood. And you would probably have less trouble finding a European flag than the stars and stripes.
But you know what eventually happened. All those Polish and Lithuanian children attended schools and played in parks with Italians, Irish, and other “minorities.” They dated the opposite sex from other nationalities. And eventually they became assimilated.
That’s what will happen with the Hispanics who are here now.
BTW, my Polish/Lithuanian neighborhood in Chicago is now Mexican. The process is starting all over again.
The entire population of Lithuania is only 2.9 million.
I say, send all the Polacks back where they come from, too. Poland will soon be in a war with Western Europe and their Muslim army and will need all the Polish soldiers they can get. If I move there, I will probably get drafted into the Polish army, even at my advanced age. Fortunately, I will be able to communicate because I speak English and I know that every Polish word is just an English word with “ski” added to the end. In general, I also agree with Fred. Having worked and lived in Mexico and traveled extensively in South America, there is much to admire and enjoy. If anything, I get treated better than the locals, especially in Mexico. Most individuals from America Latina as well as from America Blanco are no problem.
Like many on this site though I also must agree: “It’s the welfare, stupid.” Even some of the liberal intelligentsia here in the Northwest realize that welfare is no longer in place to help the recipients, though they won’t say so in public. Welfare is here to buy votes, peace and a little time…to try and escape.

Larga vida al rey y la reina. Southern Cal’s UCR 66-70 gave me my only college grade of D from (((Señor Bergstorm’s))) college Spanish class. Lila Palencia gave me my first bare breasted conquest on the front seat of my Corvair. It proceeded no further than that. I came to realize the charming coed from San Bernardino Valley College was hustling to get ahead in life despite the childbirth her breasts betrayed and she kept from me when I picked her up at her family’s humble house on our way to spend the night sleeping on Newport Beach. I worked closely with two cholos who taught the ropes of maintenance and grill work, and how to open up McD’s in Berdoo and Redlands. One was a hard worker and told me he would not hesitate to smear feces on a bun to serve to one who disses him. I still think about him when I hear of another E. The other better amigo went to UCR with me and is now a LA lawyer. He was like a Mexican boxer, tough as leather, only smarter. Though he was barely 5’5″ he challenged me to throw a hundred pound bag of spuds at him as hard as I could. The burlap sack of Idahos- destined to be peeled, sliced, blanched and fried by us would bounce off his proud chest. He taught me his technique.
The San Antonio Rose I dated at UCR hooked up with a Hispanic politician in SA after I left her to go to Turkey. It was near scandal and she hid the fact from her AF O6 father.
Post Hurricane Ivan a crew of Mexicans and Central American Amigos inhabited my gHetto house while they worked doing repair and new construction for my neighbors and my house. Damn hard workers but damn, the beer bottles and caps were dropped where-ever they finished them. I picked up their trash for weeks after they left. And they liberated a few things too.
My mates at Club Mac and I drove to Anaheim where we could buy beer from a bodega in the barrio there. We scored two six packs and cruised in our jacked 56 hot rod Chevy with cutout exhausts. We encountered some chicas bonitas cruisin’ too. In spite of our language barrier in the barrio they invited us to join them for a party. We followed the giggling girls to their abode with beers in hand. It was small and a humble place with stark linoleum floors with no decor. Vinyl upholstered benches and chairs around the dimly lit room. I was buzzed a bit and had fun despite the language disparity. The party advanced when in no time a bunch of young men our age joined in. They spoke no English. My poor Spanish heard one of the vatos say hermana to one of the cute brown eyed girls. I realized then my buds and I were acting like pendejos as we drank beer and flicked our cigarette ashes on the polished floor of their reception room. And I queried in my poor Spanish to confirm that was the guy’s sister. He confirmed the message and I could see it would not end well if we continued in our fun with the girls. I apologized and made excuses and told my crew it was time to Vámonos and get outta Dodge before some one’s honor was defended.

Simple solution- Absolutely no social services for non-citizens. No free anything if you aren’t a citizen. Why should a non-citizen enjoy the fruits of what is stolen from and intended for the citizens?
Also- who says we can’t deport them? We’ve hardly tried. It would probably be a great employment program for citizens.
Offer a bounty of 500-1000 per head for each illegal reported, arrested, and successfully deported. Offer law enforcement asset forfeiture loot from illegals arrested and deported. Since they’re committing a constant and continuing crime every day they’re here, declare their shit forfeit. The cops will do a record business scooping up homes, businesses, bank accounts, properties, etc. Between revoked freebies and the real threat of being dispossessed of ill-gotten gains, there’s no benefit to being here.
If citizenship in this nation is worth anything, it’s worth protecting and keeping exclusive.

My spouse is foreign-born. I’ve been through the sponsorship process, the waiting, uncertainty, the mountains of paperwork, lawyer’s fees, the interviews, having your documents checked, bringing your family photos and tax records to prove your relationship is authentic.
Yeah, I know a bit about it.
And one of the first things the govt requires is for you as the sponsor to promise you will support your future citizen. They aren’t permitted on the dole. They also can’t work. If your immigrant goes on welfare, they threaten to kick them out of the country, even though they also can’t legally get a job.
We went through the line and waited our turn and I paid for it.
So you might be able to imagine my anger when others cheat, cut to the front of the line, steal the benefits of citizenship, and the politicians not only look the other way and cover for it, but they fall all over themselves to kiss up to criminal illegal aliens and offer them freebies which are denied to legal immigrants. Not that I take advantage of welfare benefits, even when I’ve lost my job.
Citizenship only means something if we protect it and keep it exclusive. Letting criminal illegals sneak in, steal the benefits, and failing to enforce the laws does not lend citizenship value. What is the point of being an American when you can cheat your way in, steal out of the public till, and the libtards kiss your ass for the privilege of the experience of being robbed by you?
