President Trump on Sunday took a shot at conservative commentator Ann Coulter, a longtime supporter of his, after she criticized him for agreeing to reopen the government without a deal on his long-promised border wall.
“I hear she’s become very hostile,” Trump said in a new interview with The Wall Street Journal. “Maybe I didn’t return her phone call or something.”
His jab comes shortly after Coulter blasted Trump repeatedly for not securing funding for a wall along the southern U.S. border, his signature campaign promise.
Coulter took to Twitter on Friday, the day lawmakers and the White House reached an agreement to end a 35-day-long partial shutdown, to blast Trump as “the biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States.”

Later, the conservative provocateur made an appearance on comedian Bill Maher’s show, where she continued to criticize the president for backing down on his demands for a border wall in order to reopen the government for three weeks.
“Look, it’s crazy that I expect a president to keep a promise he made every day for 18 months,” Coulter quipped to Maher.
She also appeared on Los Angeles radio station KNX, where said there was “no question” that House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) outmaneuvered Trump on the border negotiations.
Coulter has been one of the media’s most vocal supporters of Trump’s proposed border wall, and has warned the president repeatedly that he could lose in 2020 if he fails to follow through on his promise.
Trump, for his part, apparently unfollowed Coulter on Twitter in December shortly after she said she wouldn’t support his reelection without a deal on a wall.

Coulter’s right that Trump needs to build a lot of what he can believably call a wall or he has zero chance of being re-elected. I think she’s wrong in asserting that he can accomplish it via a declaration of emergency or through his inherent powers as president. A federal court would immediately enjoin it, and it could take years to make it to the Supreme Court. Unthinking people say he could ignore the lower courts. It’s one thing for a president to ignore a court order to, say, produce a document. It’s another thing entirely to expect thousands of other people – engineers, contractors, government accountants – to disregard a court order. That would not happen – any more than the TSA would enforce his Muslim ban while it’s been stalled in the courts.
Trump needs Pelosi to cooperate somewhat. He and Jared would give up a lot in exchange for wall funding. He should have done this when Rat Ryan was in office, but he trusted the republicans – which was stupid. Bring on the shutdown again…

Trump should propose increasing income taxes on individuals and couples with incomes over $1 mil enough to pay for the wall (and a little more). Let the Dems try to oppose taxing the rich.
Trump is sometimes referred to as the “deal maker”. He should not be compromising with the democrats on immigration. This is not “The Art Of The Deal”. This is Trump caving in, so Ann Coulter is right. But lets give Trump another chance in a few weeks. Don’t hold your breath though, Trump has a two year track record of some broken promises. We’ll know on February 15th if Coulter is vindicated or Trump is.
