A New Yorker no more: Trump changes his primary residence to Florida

Via Marketwatch

President Donald Trump’s permanent address is no longer New York City.

In a series of tweets Thursday night, the president said he has moved his permanent residence to Palm Beach, Fla., and said he had been “treated very badly by the political leaders of both the city and state” of New York. “Few have been treated worse,” he said, through he added New York “will always have a special place in my heart!”

The New York Times first reported the move, citing documents filed in Florida by Trump and his wife, Melania, that said their primary residence was now Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.

The Times reported the move was primarily for tax purposes. Florida does not have a state income tax or inheritance tax.

The Times also said the move will not affect the effort by New York’s attorney general to try to obtain Trump’s federal tax records.

Trump has been a lifetime New Yorker, and his triplex in Manhattan’s Trump Tower has been his primary residence since 1983, but since becoming president he’s spent far more time at Mar-a-Lago than Manhattan.

“Good riddance. It’s not like @realDonaldTrump paid taxes here anyway… He’s all yours, Florida,” New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo tweeted after the report.

Extremely smart move.

Only an idiot like Cuomo would say something like that. All as that cesspool to the south NYC continues to bleed. Why don’t Cuomo move to Venezuela and do the rest of the great state of NY a favor.

Indeed.

Something like 17 million out 19.5 million Florida residents were not born there.

I don’t see the South boycotting New York or California. Seems to me that when your opponent goes low, you need to go lower if they are Collectivists.

I’d like to see my home state slap tariffs on New York and watch the liberals take it to SCOTUS because it IS unconstitutional…if the Constitution hadn’t already suffered a breach of contract by the Anglophiles.

This isn’t a time in history for a bunch of scared pussies and that’s what all of the Republicans are acting like.

Love Florida, hate NYC and always have. NY state is usually not like NYC. The left has had control in the state far too long and the reflects poorly on the voters.

Well Mr. President, grow a set of Lincoln-esque balls and do what is necessary to put a stop to it. Suspending habeas corpus would be a good start.

The more time that goes by living under this charade, the more as a Southerner (with family roots in the South dating to the 1600s) I come to respect Lincoln for doing what he felt needed to be done.

You can’t play by a set of rules that your opponent doesn’t even acknowledge let alone respect. We’ve been in a state of permanent war since 9/11, so use wartime rules to your advantage.

Cuomo? Wasn’t he the fella who had all the skyscrapers lit up pink to celebrate infanticide? Seems the politicians in NY are real good at chasing business away. Remember Bezos and AOCortez?

Should have done it a while ago and put in his own dig. Something like “if New York leadership returns to sanity in my lifetime I will move back.”

In a state that he won by about .1% and almost certainly needs to win again, even the slightest boost of his 2020 FL vote total could prove vital. Even if it’s 95% because of taxes, the fact that he can now tell Floridians he’s one of them could swing a few crucial votes his way.
