The reason we’re seeing diseases like SARS and this latest coronavirus out of China is because they’re getting richer. More money = more demand for meat = more Chinese farming pigs and chickens.

Actually the Chinese say that if it’s back faces the sun it is edible. Long pig was once a staple in many markets. My father was stationed at Tsingtao China post WWII and he said the starvation was such that trucks would travel down streets and sidewalks gathering up those who had died from starvation. The mess hall was not allowed to carry garbage outside because the desperate people would riot attempting to get to it. He also relayed the sad tale of how a Chinese man had stolen a Peacoat from a sailor and when he was caught with the coat the police took him outside and shot him.
