SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, Austrian Peter, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Dvořák: The Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”

Gimnazija Kranj Great Christmas Concert 2018 – The Last Journey Home.

Gimnazija Kranj Symphony Orchestra under the baton of maestro Nejc Bečan did again an amazing job. The Orchestra sold out the Gallus Hall in Cankarjev dom Slovenia in short seconds. This perfomance is a milestone.

Primož Zevnik, director, recorded it with 17 cameras.

Gimnazija Kranj kids play amazingly. Just enoy this powerful musical spectacle.

The Symphony No. 9 in E minor, “From the New World”,

Op. 95, B. 178 (Czech: Symfonie č. 9 e moll „Z nového světa“), popularly known as the New World Symphony, was composed by Antonín Dvořák in 1893 while he was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from 1892 to 1895. It is by far his most popular symphony, and one of the most popular of all symphonies.

In older literature and recordings, this symphony was – as for its first publication – numbered as Symphony No. 5. Astronaut Neil Armstrong took a tape recording of the New World Symphony along during the Apollo 11 mission, the first Moon landing, in 1969. The symphony was completed in the building that now houses the Bily Clocks Museum.

The piece has four movements:

1. Adagio — Allegro molto

2. Largo

3. Scherzo. Molto vivace

4. Allegro con fuoco

Edvard Grieg – Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 Op. 46

Folks, I’m going to bring you a beautiful piece of music today that contains two, three, or more melodies that you are certain to recognize.

This is Suite No. One Op 46 from the 5 act play titled “Peer Gynt” written by Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906) and published in 1867. It was first performed in Christiania (now Oslo) in1876. The music for Ibsen’s play was scored by Edvard Grieg (1843-1907).

I am, once again, going to dip into the fountain of youth as the youth in this case is the Polish Youth Symphony Orchestra from Bytom, Poland.

It was recorded on 7-8-2015 at the Frederic Chopin School of Music Hall in Bytom. These youngsters are incredibly talented, tight and disciplined. The very talented conductor, Maciej Tomasiewicz. likewise has a good deal odf tread left on him.

The melodies played in “Morning Mood”, “Anitra’s Dance” and “The Hall of the Mountain King” (don’t spill the wine) are very memorable.

So sit back, have a great Sunday, and let these youngsters entertain you.

Heritage Christian Americans will want to be singing this special piece — for the road ahead is treacherous and we need strength of Almighty God against the vile host of the Satanists:

I always enjoy your musical contributions on this site. Problem is I don’t always have time to listen to them all. But I like to listen to at least one or two when time is limit as I read what’s written about the compositions. Thanks, guys. Keep it up.
