THIS DAY IN HISTORY – Shootings at Ruby Ridge – 1992

Via History.com

In the second day of a standoff at Randy Weaver’s remote northern Idaho cabin atop Ruby Ridge, FBI sharpshooter Lon Horiuchi wounds Randy Weaver and Kevin Harris, and then kills Weaver’s wife, Vicki.

Randy Weaver, an alleged white supremacist, had been targeted by the federal government for selling two illegal sawed-off shotguns to an undercover Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) informant. On August 21, 1992, after a period of surveillance, U.S. marshals came upon Harris, Weaver, Weaver’s 14-year-old son Sammy and the family dog on a road near the Weaver property. A marshal shot and killed the dog, prompting Sammy to fire at the marshal. In the ensuing gun battle, Sammy and U.S. Marshal Michael Degan were shot and killed. A tense standoff ensued, and on August 22 the FBI joined the marshals besieging Ruby Ridge.

Later that day, Harris, Weaver, and his daughter, Sarah, left the cabin, allegedly for the purpose of preparing Sammy’s body for burial. FBI sharpshooter Lon Horiuchi, waiting 200 yards away, opened fire, allegedly because he thought Harris was armed and intending to fire on a helicopter in the vicinity. Horiuchi wounded Weaver, and the group ran to the shed where Sammy’s body was lying. When they attempted to escape back into the cabin, Horiuchi fired again, wounding Harris as he dove through the door and killing Vicki Weaver, who was holding the door open with one hand and cradling her infant daughter with the other. Horiuchi claimed he didn’t know that Vicki Weaver was standing behind the door. Harris, Weaver, and Weaver’s three daughters surrendered nine days later.

The controversial standoff spawned a nationwide debate on the use of force by federal law enforcement agencies, and a U.S. Senate panel accused the federal agencies involved of “substantial failures” in their handling of the Ruby Ridge operation.

Lon Horiuchi, a Japanese-American, graduated from West Point in the late 70’s. Bob Barr, the current Attorney General, shielded Horiuchi from investigation and prosecution, because, as he openly stated, he did not want to tarnish the public image of the FBI. About 6 months later, the Waco TX massacre occurred. The evidence I’ve seen indicates that Horiuchi was also present there.

“Randy Weaver, an alleged white supremacist, had been targeted by the federal government…”

Weaver was a separatist, not a supremacist. He was living with his family.deep in the wooded hills as far away from non-Whites as he could get, minding his own business, bothering no one.

The fed agents provocateur had been trying for many weeks to set him up, repeatedly asking him to do small favors that would be technically illegal. Eventually, one of them persuaded him to saw off a couple inches from a shotgun barrel for their benefit, not his.

Horiuchi is an ugly stain on the Long Gray Line of West Point. Barr is just another fraud mired in the DC swamp.

It is sad to see, what has become of America. It seems like the greatest punishment one can inflict upon people is to leave them a great legacy. Inevitably they become lazy and stupid. They waste it all and then some. Once the last refuge for people who wanted to life in freedom, America today is a giant open air Gulag, and the gates will close on November 2.

I wonder what got the feds interested in the Weavers to start with?

Yahsure,

Good question.

In the first paragraph below, I paraphrased or excerpted key points from an Encyclopaedia Britannica entry. The second paragraph is quoted entirely.

Weaver’s troubles with the U.S. federal government began when he attended several meetings of the Aryan Nations….at its compound in Hayden Lake, Idaho… Though not a member, he shared the group’s… anti-government views. At one of the meetings, Weaver befriended an informant working for the ATF, who purchased two illegal sawed-off shotguns from Weaver…”

“When Weaver refused to become an informant for the ATF, federal agents pursued a weapons charge against him. He was arrested and released with a trial set for February 19, 1991. The trial was then moved to February 20, but a probation officer sent a letter to Weaver, incorrectly stating that the new trial date was March 20. When Weaver failed to appear for trial, the court issued a bench warrant for his arrest. Weaver was subsequently indicted by a federal grand jury for failing to appear at trial, and the U.S. Marshal Service was tasked with arresting him.”

FWIW Weaver maintained that he shortened shotgun barrels to the legal minimum, and then our beloved feds (via their informant) shortened or replaced the stocks, such that the overall weapon length was below the legal minimum. Weaver was never convicted of ANY weapons charges.

I was a member of a men’s prayer vigil at Ruby Ridge. They would have burned the Weavers alive with a drum of diesel fuel dangling from a helicopter, but thought better of it after several people in the surrounding area took photos and let others know what they were up to. Yes, folks, they are demons and never act in the best interest of the honest citizen. Unfortunately, 28 years later, it has only gotten worse, much worse.
Justice has been turned on its head and is now only “just us,” for the demons in charge. Oh yeah, if anyone is waiting for Barr to indict any of his former cronies, you may want to check back later to see if hell has frozen over yet.

I remember that after Vicky Weaver was murdered, the FBI used loudspeakers to taunt her children hiding inside their cabin beside their dead mother’s body. “We’re having pancakes! Tell your mother to make breakfast for you!”

I also remember that the FBI sent a remote controlled vehicle (a sort of miniature army tank with a shotgun built into it) up to the door of the cabin. There was a phone strapped on top of the shotgun. Over the loudspeakers they said, “Just answer the phone! We only want to talk to you!”

Now that you’ve mentioned it, I remember those details too. Makes my blood boil.
