What actually stuns me is the duplicity of mind. Up until last year we cared for my wifes 98 yr old parents who have been ‘socialists’ forever. Her pappy even admits that the government kinda told a few lies to them. Yet trusts them implicitly. sort of…
They firmly believe its the governments job to take care of them, after all they paid taxes, sort of… We moved them out of their house because there are stairs everywhere and they were falling all the time. Her mom broke four ribs in the last fall. So they are in an independent living facility, not care home.
They have a very healthy bank account and because he is a WW2 veteran, thinks the government should cover his rent and any other costs associated with living away from his house. He trusts the government but is terrified he’s going to end up on the street.
When I ask why then would he trust them when he’s fearful of them not protecting him from the streets… he reverts back to trusting the government troupes.
They watch the propaganda every day, all day and when I point out the conflicting messages the government and ‘health experts’ are saying they fall back on the ‘the government has no reason to lie to us. There is simply no way to reason to them in any way, logic and facts simply are not entertained.
I know, I hear the arguments, why bother, they are old. Because when they bring up factually wrong information I correct it with the facts. I don’t treat adults like children and never pander to them just because they are old… Seems in this day wisdom should be considered a super power along with common sense.
He got his first massive dose of lying from the government under FDR. Another massive dose in WW2, and truly it has never ended since then. Some are born with more sheep DNA than others. Some will simply never learn. Fear of death drives people more than anything else. It is a hard mentality to break. Never give up.
I have a 93 year old mom. Wonderful woman and sharp as a tack, but has total reverence for government bureaucrats (Fauci). It’s the way they were brought up I guess. She doesn’t want to listen to anything that may not be true coming from our government. I believe most of it, simply, is cognitive dissonance. It’s just too hard for them to believe the truth. It’s too much change and it makes them nervous.
