I knew a guy who did not grad hs, wound up in front of a judge that gave him two options, prison “or” marine corp.
The notion that inductees to the murderous “services” must be squeaky-clean before being stained is ridiculous, in service to brochure purposes. “The few, the proud…the steven spielberg/clint eastwood movies.”

I saw quite a bit of that in the late 60’s early 70’s. Army needed cannot fodder and the judges were more than happy to provide it with the local miscreants.
I was in ‘The Corps’ from ’66 to ’68 … near the end of the Marines drafting guys … and we had a fair percentage of guys like you mention — judges gave them the option of prison or 4 years in the Marine Corps.
Once the draft ended and we had an all-volunteer Military — the Military became just another welfare state … one that paid a whole lot more than we used to get prior to that time.
Nowadays they’re having trouble filling quotas unless they remove the restrictions … so now they’ve got lots of gang bangers and such shit in the Military …
They’ve also dumbed down the requirements for women to get into infantry positions — especially in Army Rangers … and more than 40% of those women still can’t pass the physical tests required.
Getting rid of the draft was foolish on many counts … all of the PC/woke/T-bone crap will prove fatal if we ever get into a shooting war …

Went into The Corps in ’69. Inducted @ Fort Holabird, Maryland. Don’t remember whether it was every 7th or 10th draftee assigned to the Marines. I do remember one guy in my platoon @ PI had flunked out of law school and lost his deferment. Poor hump spent eight weeks looking like a deer in the headlights.
Went to Parris Island in July, ’66 … dodged the draft (after leaving college) by enlisting in the Corps for 2 years in LBJ’s ‘clean out the ghetto’ program to get a lot of folks killed as a way of solving what abortion wouldn’t take care of for another decade.
One of the guys that got drafted into our platoon was 25 years old, married and had 3 children. It took the whole 8 weeks of boot camp plus God-only-knows how much longer before they finally straightened out everything and sent him back home.
It was difficult as hell … but I made it — so did a whole lot of US. It did me a lot of good … although, I must admit, that I was not in combat. I had a bullshit MOS and got stationed Stateside the whole time …

a buddy of mine went in to the army w/a felony b/c he stabbed a guy in a fight–he was turned down b/c of it –the recruiter told him to go to another state & enlist,that by the time the background check was completed(pre computer days)that he would be 1/2 thru boot camp & if he was doing a good job they would ignore his record–
that was 1971,just after the draft ended & they desperately needed recruits–
fast forward a few years,he was in special forces & was doing classified work & needed a security clearance,which he could not get due to his felony–
the army got him a full pardon signed by george wallace,which he proudly kept framed on his wall–
I have a homosexual brother and I’m not anti-gay. But once the military adopted the “don’t ask/don’t tell” platform and tacitly gave the green light to gays in the military, I knew it was over. It goes directly against the grain of the martial spirit. Further it’s a morale killer when you place men in a circumstance where they feel they have to question other men’s motives. When I saw those poor humps being marched around in red high heels a couple of years ago I knew you could stick a fork in the US military. They were done.
Think it was when the world’s largest military machine to date got run into the ground by an army that has not a single aircraft or naval ship.
The longest modern war, not counting the Korean War which has never been called over and done, but the US did allow the dancing boys for their Afghan buddies.
You sound kind of ignorant. Fags were in the military since it began and all around you and not saying anything. I was in when don’t ask don’t tell was happening. It never made any difference. What should be talked about is why everyone is forced to acknowledge people’s sexual preferences. I really don’t need to know. I asked a lesbian about why she tells people she is gay when they don’t have a need to know and don’t care. She just got mad and shut up.
I have a dear friend that served in the first gulf war. Drove a Abrams. Fast forward 20 odd years, I discovered his significant other was ‘Alexander’ and not ‘Alexandra’.
Turns out he’d been gay his entire adult life. But he conducted himself with honor and duty in the service. And by all counts a Man’s man. ( no pun intended. ) These videos coming out lately are pure BS.

Our Nukes are there for when our ground forces are losing; or for a first strike. I’m not sure we could really pull off a first strike such that we didn’t get struck really bad too; only an insane fool like Hitler would try that.
So that means fewer aggressive overseas adventures against sovereign nations that never harmed us, fewer folks who will be defending out criminal government when they finally push too far, and fewer folks overseas pissing off the locals and creating more terrorists that wish to do us harm. And the downside???
I went to Scott AFB in Illinois today.
Masks required in all facilities, unless vaccinated. A really good NCO tipped us off that no one is allowed to ask.
Of course, all of the military folks wore masks. Morale seems low, but that is hard to verify.
Since no one makes eye contact anymore unless they have to.

Yes our superpower days are gone. That is not necessarily a bad thing. The Empire has not exactly been behaving honorably as of late driven by the Neoliberal/Neoconservative alliance. The number of collateral innocent dead in the Middle East, for example, is horrific. America, my home, my place of birth no longer deserves to shape the direction of the world.
