As I read the stories about more and more colleges and universities (most recently the entire University of California and Cal. State systems) not using the SAT or ACT anymore for admissions, the calls for ending math requirements, etc. I have to wonder. Why not just cut out the middle man, and if you check the appropriate box or boxes under race on the birth certificate, they just send you a college diploma for your kid from the college of your choice? I mean that is pretty much what it is coming down to. Heaven forbid we face the truth that government monopoly day prisons are NOT intended to provide a quality education to anyone. Heaven forbid we face the reality that multiple kids from multiple fathers, living in a home where mom’s only job is to cash the welfare check and there is no father around at all, are simply not going to do well in school, regardless of how good the school is. Heaven forbid we face the truth that some people are simply not able to be educated to the level of others, no matter how good the school is. Heaven forbid we face the truth that college is NOT for everyone and that is ok. Heaven forbid we face the truth that there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with learning a skill or a trade that doesn’t require a college education, and that the sooner we accept that such a path is better for some than others, the sooner they can head down that path.
