Well the big Ag consolidation over the past 50 years as pretty much done that already. But problem is, will they have to? The strain on the small farm inputs, seeds, diesel, fertilizer, pesticide, labor, etc. are already upside down relative to any kind of normal economic projection.
With my non-farming small biz that the covid response killed, it wasn’t so much that some specific issue came and stole my revenue, but rather the conditions were either obviously untenable or impossible to underwrite such that ongoing business investments and strategic decisions could not happen. I had to operate in ‘normal’ financial paradigm while TPTB were busy creating and enforcing an alternative reality. I could not be solvent longer than TPTB could be tyrants.
One of the most important aspects of the Padraig post is that it highlights that nothing should be viewed in isolation; we are all in this together in the sense that my “expenses” are someone elses revenue; my credit is someone elses investment; my AR is someone elses AP.
The “Economy” for most small businesses is 30-90 days of merchant carry. We carry each other. They break this and things go pear right quick. They break this for food production and distribution and people go hungry right quick.
They play games. Fertilizer cost is up from 60. to 90. a bag. But you can’t get the 12- formula, they will only sell you the six-month. Supply chain issues, you know? So you have to buy it twice a year. So the price is up 50%, but they tripled your cost

Most of these premiers are giving the appearance of relenting and ending covid restrictions, but if you look at the details, they’re not giving up sh*t. Ford in Ontario has been silent and sent his health minister out today to say mandates and vaccine passports will stay in place. Our politicians are not going to let go of these emergency measures until forced to do so.
All mandates, rules and restrictions must be lifted in all provinces now and then laws changed so they can never do this to us again in the future. May the Truckers win this fight!
