Five semi-trucks to bring the logs and building materials for my log home…
I paid $1500 to have that bulldozer delivered to unload and stack the logs. Omer Yoder, my builder, drove it and after the trucks left and he’d placed what needed to be inside the barn inside of it, he asked what else I wanted him to do with the bulldozer we’d rented for 24 hours.
So, he made the road from the driveway to the barn for me and leveled it all in front of the barn for a future “apron.”
Omer Yoder and his company are now in Wisconsin, but I have his contact information if anyone wants an honest builder willing to use all your money wisely.
We got our $1500 out of that rental for sure and Omer didn’t charge me more for doing all that extra work.
The thing is that there really are a LOT of people willing to work for a living. We just need government to stay out of our business because they ruin everything they touch.
Mennonites built the barn, too.
End of the first week stacking logs.
The subfloor was down in a half day. Omer is walking away mid-frame and four of his five sons are in the photo, one kneeling on the subfloor, with the other in the basement planing warped logs. One pallet of logs showed up slightly warped and Gastineau Log Homes suggested Omer use filler to level those, so Omer brought a planer from home and put one of his sons (Marlin) to work in the basement correcting the warp to perfect the seal.
This oak indeed seals tight, with very little checking after the first two years.
My home was built by experts who are also perfectionists. Measure thrice and cut nice.
But it all starts with semi-trucks delivering tons and tons of building materials, gravel and usually a load or two of concrete.

Treehouse is liveable, sort of… Decent insulation and bedding but the floor is cold as all get out… bring thick socks.
Next step is to enclose the west end (hillside) where the circuit breaker panel and plumbing feeds the home. Once we do that and put the plumbing, water heater and furnace there, along with a bit or storage room, we will be finding renters if neither son will live there because we have too many people watching what we are doing down there and we ain’t selling.
Nick, on the other hand, got dollar signs in his eyes when the gay dentist from Dallas offered 100K as is. I told my husband, who was born in Cleveland, that if he sold that little place to a gay dentist and his partner, he’d better get free dental work for all of our neighbors AND their brethren at the local churches. We laughed about that but it’s true.
You can stay a day or two, but unless the real shooting starts whilst your are here, you will need to have plans after a day or so. Nick’s nice wears off.
This really is a great site shared by the best folks. Every time someone here needs some help, you will not be short of offers from them to be there for you. I will never forget T4C’s kindness when I asked for someone to lean on while I caught my breath.

tech question. that last photo is a beaut, and would love to save to file,
for forwarding purposes as most fotos can be, if the url is a .jpg file or .png file.
The one above, and others I wanted to save come up as a WEBP file,

In Firefox, go to about:config and change one setting to be:
image.http.accept = */*
Restart the browser and reload the webpage. For me a right-click on an image and Save as… then almost always saves as JPG.
Otherwise get an Image Viewer who can do “Save as…”, such as IrfanView (that one needs the Plugin set from same website, to be able to open WEBP files) and save the WEBP as a JPG.
I fully expect at least one government to take sterner measures to clear the blockade, either with tear gas or Brown Shirts. The proper response is for the entire trucker family to get the flu for a week and call in sick. After 3 days the grocery stores will be empty and after 7 days the riots will be in full swing.
After the first one or two heavy handed government responses, the rest will rethink and may even fall into line and remove all the mandates.
This does not mean the problem is solved. We need to make sure that shit like this never happens again, which means trials, convictions, Mussolini style justice and then legislation to prevent any future power grabs.

I live in a deep red part of a red state. I see people (tourists, vacationers) from all over the country, and most vax and mask. If thats the way it is here, seems like it but be worse almost everywhere else. I hope I am mistaken.
Have been meaning to thank FM for this wonderful effort to keep folks informed and hereby do so. This tip of the hat comes from the southern end of the world in a country in which the truckers’ union makes Hoffa’s Teamsters look like choir boys. The truckers here are hard left and will not be making any sort of stand for freedom such as is going on elsewhere. Then too, their horns probably don’t work.
The media does not cover what’s going on at all, but there will be a daily newspaper story about the “Holocaust” and “Nazis”: every single day. I’ve come to believe that the Canadian truckers must be supported and that this is indeed perhaps the most important passive resistance movement of my lifetime, closing in on 76 years. Spent three hours at todays rally and it was still going strong, more arriving. Its growing, every age, color and creed. We had one guy, a counter protester, riding a bike and scattering roofing nail on the road. Cops picked him up and the crowds cleaned up the nails.
Liberals are so nice, understanding and inclusive.
went to a “protest” car drive/rally that stretched for miles down the freeway… how many miles? Cant say for sure, but when front truck hit, a called a friend who was in a pick up about mid pack, and he was still 12 kms away from me. they went to the US border for a rally. took 2 1/2 hours for them to drive by. I would have sworn it was Canada day from all the flags. 🙂 (hope this works)
