The Biden Administration’s plan to ‘forgive’ student loans is infuriating, to put it mildly. My grandson worked every summer, graduated with honors in four years, and with his own sacrifice and help from our family, his loans were paid off in two damned years. We are not rich. This involved real financial sacrifice. And Now I get to help pay for the loans for adults who decided to fleece the rest of us? Nearly half of the loans are for graduate degrees and for students from families who can afford to pay them off. This is bullshit.

Clearly, user “RJ” is a gen z or Millennial with a masters degree in Advanced Climate Change Studies. Can’t find a job outside of fast food. Doesn’t want to try for a teaching job which would earn away half his debt over time. Instead, he wants to blame a prior generation for his bad decisions and not wishing to pay his own way. His downvote shows in each comment here opposing forgiveness.

Socialist Democrats are the welfare class party. Democrats feel that people who have earned money (not including themselves, of course) should just give it to people who have earned nothing. Do you really believe that half of all working age adults should be supported by the other half? If you do, you’re not an American. You’re just a Communist.

Aside from the injustice of forgiving student loans, the whole idea that everyone should go to college is ridiculous. Libs and other stupid people think that there’s no difference among individuals when it comes to ability, discipline, work ethic and everything else. I think that 37 of the adult American population has a four year degree. It’s not like bestowing a paper credential on everyone would make everyone a 99th percentile person.

Getting a degree is not about a higher education, it is about a feel good & thought of money.

The student debt repayment argument is asinine. The government should NEVER guarantee ANY loans for ANY reason. Remove government from the student loan business and it completely collapses making the issue moot. Also, students can default on their debt and wait out the 7 years of wrecked credit. It can’t be discharged in bankruptcy but it can be defaulted on and wiped off a credit report.

Agreed. Government has its hands in all sorts of stuff it never should have, at its base it’s simply a wealth transfer machine.

Sure, forgiving student loans seems like a bad idea in a Capitalist society but that isn’t what we have here. Our’s is anything but a free market, so save your outrage for bigger things. Maybe start with the ripoff Ponzi known as “Social Security”?

Or….or those of us who paid our loans when they were at 8% and not tax deductible, now have to pay for these people with useless degrees in white rage and queer studies as well, because they are too busy burning down cities playing video games and stuffing ballot boxes to go get jobs.

Loan forgiveness doesn’t mean the government takes money away from you to pay off the loans, Boomer.

No, it means the government takes money away from EVERYONE. Why did you borrow that money RJ? What is your degree? The next phase of loan forgiveness is free college for the next gen. Problem is, the people who want that free ride don’t want it the way it’s done elsewhere.

Free college? Yes, it’s done some places, but… Only for degrees the nation needs and at the colleges selected by the government. Only for the appropriate time. And only if you maintain the grades. How would that work for you, RJ?

I spend three years in the Army. For that, I got $175 a month while enrolled in college after the Army. Yes I worked full time in the summer and evenings during school, although I also took at least one class in the summer–since my objective was to graduate and get a job, not to enjoy “college life.” College benefits are WAY better now for new military veterans.

I’m sorry that “boomers” earning their own way is so upsetting to slackers like you, RJ, but I’m still not going to sit still for you taxing my grandchildren to pay for your bad choices.

I just want to add not all young individuals go this route. My oldest is graduating in 3 weeks and between scholarships and working he has paid for his education. In fact he is going to have about 3 grand left over. Math major with a computer science minor. I’m very proud of his accomplishment.

Reminds me of the anecdote in Atlas Shrugged about the motor factory worker whose savings went to buy new teeth for another factory worker’s family member; he got so irate that he punched every one of those teeth out.

Once again, student loan forgiveness doesn’t mean the government will be taking your money away to “pay” for it.

RJ
RJ
April 23, 2022 8:32 pm

Here’s a question for all you Boomers: where did the government get the money that they “loaned” to all of these students?

Here’s the answer: they conjured it out of thin air by making an entry in their books, then charged these kids interest on it. Oh, and the kids didn’t get 90% or more of the loan proceeds either, that went directly to the colleges and universities.

It’s not 1968 anymore. You can’t earn $20,000 over the course of 3 months to pay your tuition with your summer job, and you can’t have everything paid for with a Pell Grant either (at least, not if you’re white).

Nobody cares for your “I paid off my loans, so suck it” attitude either. IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU.

Clearly your degree, if you actually finished school, is not economics or finance, and you don’t follow current events. Otherwise you’d know that “conjuring out of thin air” is artificially increasing the money supply, and that has one well known and predictable result: Inflation. And in case your parents haven’t explained it to you, the “inflation tax” affects everyone.

No, it’s not about me. It’s about me, my family, my children, my grandchildren and your family too. But then, as all socialist Democrats do, you’re projecting your selfishness onto everyone else.
