Funny, I have been trying to get a couple I know to grasp this. They are spending $35k/year to send their kid to a prestigious school. Great place and she is learning interesting, if pretty useless in life, stuff. But it seems little in the way of ‘how to manage after the parents stop paying’ is taught.
I suggested they would be better taking the $300k they are going to spend and start or buy a small business they could hand over to her in the future. Or a piece of land that could be food self sufficient. Much better than a worthless degree.
She is already extremely good at the three Rs, so the school is really just a waste of time.

I have worked in many businesses, large and small. And you know what I have never seen? An HR department with firing authority. They do not have that authority.
They do often do recruiting at large companies. But even then, depending, it is often a specialised department, and they don’t get involved in this shit.
This woman, to use the word loosely, has no authority and cannot do what she says. She is lying.
Oh, and guess who are ALWAYS the first to be fired in serious downturns? That would be people in HR departments. They are the definition of useless overheads, and in big downturns, managers look around and see those big blobs of uselessness, and boot them out first.
