The left is on the ropes with inflation, high price everything, broken supply chain, food and gas prices, stock’s teetering, home values dropping, increase in interest rates , a retard for a leader, etc. These could be sacrificial acts to gin up their base for the midterms and distract people from the freight train in the tunnel coming our way under their watch. Just a guess.

Hiding the fact that your pension is gone.

When those people who are between 40 and 50 realize this, that’s when the Deflation really kicks in. Their spending habits will drop irrespective of monetary devaluation.

anyone under, say, 60, anymore has got to be completely blind and clueless to imagine he’s ever got a pension of any kind coming. Nevermind how much we’ve paid in. we’re never going to see a cent of it. thats already well established reality weve been living in for about a decade. since the economy broke in 08 really, it was as plain as day. Thinking people knew it was coming even further back, but ’08 gave a very strong signal re the timing of things.

either the public pensions will also disappear, or else they will be so inflated as to be basically the same thing. There are people in eastern europe who still get old soviet pensions – nominally based on some mostly imaginary quantity of pre-1991 rubles – which are still duly paid every month (or whatever interval theyre paid at) and which amount nowadays to enough to maybe buy a sandwich or a cup of coffee, but probably not both.

Not in any order of importance:

1. The steadily increasing rise in the Death/Infertility/Immune System destruction/Depop Jab’s successes.

2. The False Flag shootings and the False Flag destruction of the Food processing plants…while farming land is being bought by a human who is obviously demon possessed.

3. The reality the right to Murder the unborn is not in the Constitution and 9 Lawyers in black dresses cannot create law.

4. The controlled destruction of the entire economy and the focused destruction of the Middle Class.

5. The Invasion at the Southern Border of 3rd world military aged men that will be armed at some point to overrun parts of the country in the coming wars.

6. The obvious (to some) fulfillment of all the Cloward-Piven tactics. (Most Murkins think they were a comedy act from the 60’s and have no idea they haunted the White House during Obama’s 8 Trojan Horse Years).

Then there is the dead dollar – killed by the Creature from Jekyll Island who has used it to enslave U.S., the coming famine, coming wars, soon to be burning cities…ok…ok…that’s enough mark…time to stop…even if there is MOUR!

I quit…too depressing…going out in the garden and watch the ducks screwing in the pond (did you know they do it under water???) And pick some green beans and squash for supper…then play with my new puppy!

Let me introduce to you PEPPER the Prepper Puppy! (He has a year of dog food and treats stashed away for him).

June 25, 2022 1:29 pm

motley,

Pepper was also the name of my Daughter’s first puppy, a wonderful Springer Spaniel.

I had a short haired Miniature Dachshund for 15 years…and we were so close it has taken me many years to get another one. Also had an amazing Jack Russel that lived to be 19!

Trying to talk my wife into another Jack to keep Pepper company. (I’m wearing her down like a car salesman…they call it the GRIND).

This ball of energy is an affectionate riot…and my new buddy.

I am on high alert with him and keep him super close when outside with the hawk, fox, coyote and Copperhead threats…I mean it reminds me of when my daughter was a five year old at the beach…Daddy is super protective!

My front yard is a sloping pasture and Pepper loves to nudge, bark at, and chase a rolling soccer ball. If you get at the bottom you can kick it back up the slope (with Pepper chasing) and watch him butt it with his nose/head and chase in back down over and over.

I have 24 chickens and 8 ducks…it is hilarious watching him give them chase…he never really gets too close to either (the chickens just out run and out maneuver him) but the male Peking ducks buck up and end up chasing him…then it’s his turn to outrun and maneuver the slow waddlers.

My wife and I sit in the shade with a beverage late afternoon/early evening and watch Puppy/Duck TV by the pond almost every day.

My daughter gave me this Coyote, Hawk, Fox vest for him for Fathers Day…because I was so protective of him when we are outside…she said:

“Dad…I’m having flashbacks of my childhood…this will help you relax with him”.

Yea Flea, the numbers are staggering…Steve Bannon’s War Room Pandemic probably has the best detailed coverage on it daily I have found to date.

About the same number of males that invaded France on D-day are invading U.S. /us monthly…while being secretly and strategically dispersed and settled in.

Every time I tell that to someone they look at me astonished…but the few in my circle (bit of a recluse even though I’m a friendly- polite extrovert) have been looking at me astonished since I went on one now proven conspiracy rant after another since the 90’s, and started going Gault in 2012 (just about finished).

Have a close friend of 28 years I gave a 55 gallon water barrel to three years ago (I have three others and other multiple water sources) for him and his family. It is still unfilled and forgotten in his garage…you can lead a friend to water…but you can’t give them life saving situational awareness.

Good to hear from you mark! Surely cannot give some that life saving situational awareness…. I think most, really. My wife turned on me out of the blue clear sky-with the help of my sweet Christian little seester. Escorted home by local popoes on what would have been my dad’s 96th bday. 5 days later deputy sheriff delivered a PFA to remove me from my house of 38 yrs. An “anti government overthrow conspirator claiming we are going to starve to death” was among other allegations to obtain the PFA. Magically dropped with a divorce filing and accompanying ‘no contact order’ for my 65th bday…..of course she kept the 6 month food supply!!

It’s been 103 days today, still in limbo land 😁

Damn, I’m sorry to hear about that ordo. It’s rough when you can’t trust someone you’ve been with for that long. I was involved in a similar situation a few months ago. My now ex fiance petitioned for a PFA that was magically dropped after I signed ppwk giving her sole use of my house. She called the state boys who came in and took all of my fishing rods with no warrant and no ex-parte order either. I was lucky enough to get it all back, likely only because they know they were in the wrong. I’m not done with them yet. Lawsuit incoming… I’m still trying to figure out what to do and how to attain a lawyer. Seems most of them are on the take. Cute puppy, I hope she’s with you for a long time.

I am sitting beside my oldest dog watching her light go out. I don’t think she’ll make it through another night and I haven’t the energy or focus to go out and do anything else knowing she might go while I’m not here. Every once in a while she’ll let out a soft moan and more than a few times I have had to really watch to make sure she’s still breathing.

Not long ago it seems she was a sweet little puppy like yours and the time just slipped away and now she’s just a bag of bones.

I’m going to have my youngest dig her grave when he comes home from work so we can put her to rest properly.

It never gets any easier no matter how old I get.

Economy is crashing, food stocks will soon dwindle to a mere trickle, stock market is in bear territory and going lower (goodbye 401k & IRA); inflation is rampaging; gasoline headed to the stratosphere and 70% of the people blame the resident of 1600 PA Ave.

This will allow them to fire up the base for the summer riot season and the upcoming elections. It will all be blamed on scotus and they will insist you come out and vote for democrats to pack the court. It will also give them cover for the Great Steal part 2.

I’m sometimes not sure if I am seeing distraction or delusion driving choice of news coverage. It’s probably a combination of the two.

If distraction, probably trying to hide increasing financial inequity where we’re turning into a bunch of unarmed dirt-poor peasants and militarized landowners.

If delusion, the NYC/DC axis of power sees their little rich island as what the rest of the US is like and may actually believe pro-abortion (plus riots) and gun-control coverage is more important to the rest of the country than food, shelter, and protecting their family and friends and their kids.

If you don’t know about the Georgia Guidestones, look it up. It cost way too much to be a joke. And nobody knows who paid for it. Might as well read up on Agenda 21,too.
And what mechanism would be used to bring them from commie dream to reality? Remember Gates saying
If we use vaccinations just right, we can bring global population down 10 to 15%?
They keep predicting food shortages aand we keep seeing reports of food processing plants burning and a shortage of fertilizer.

The problems are not just happening. It’s being done on purpose. Gotta be.
An idiot trying to make America better wouldn’t be as disastrous as Biden’s alleged best efforts to make America strong. You can’t be exactly, perfectly WRONG every time you make a decision unless it’s intentional.

Stupidity eventually stops being cover for sabotage.

This nothing more than another psyop to divide us further and to get men and women to hate each other. Divide et impera.

Just like they did back in the ’60’s to marginalize actual war protestors, to make them look like drugged-out freaks and to push people to support Vietnam, they’re putting the ugliest, most hideous, just-no-ways they can find (probably their own agents) and give them plenty of TV airtime, because they know all it’s doing is furthering their feminist causes by creating mad man-haters who will never have children, and encourage other women to be “free from (of course White) male oppression,” while simultaneously driving men away from them with their behavior.

OK. So here’s another angle on that question:

We know SCOTUS, like the DoJ and FBI, has been mostly assimilated by The Borg.

We also know SCOTUS had five decades to overturn Roe v Wade.

So why now?

Chaos always serves the beast, as Devvy Kidd pointed out years ago. I’m surprised it still up.

LOCK HER UP….lol

The Bull, the Cape and
the Matador
What do we see above? We see the raging bull — the people of America. We see a matador standing there, cool and untouched. The matador is waving a cape in front of the American people which continues to draw their ire and anger, or lulls them into complacency and a false sense of security. The American people, because they haven’t been given the facts and the truth about the privately owned “Fed,”the IRS, the UN, social security and other key mechanisms of the masters of this proposed one-world government, continue to huff and puff at the cape. Sometimes they even charge the cape.

While the raging bull continues to be frustrated that the cape appears over and over and he never really gets his target, there is another distraction: the clowns. The clowns are the U.S. Congress and the majority of those who serve in the 50 state legislatures. While the bull is raging over today’s cape which says Bill the Liar was serviced by Monica, the clowns jump up and down yelling silly phrases like “bi-partisan” or “$40 million dollars in four years.”

The next day the cape says we have bombed a terrorist chemical lab in the Sudan, which is going to prove to be a big, fat, ugly lie and wag the dog becomes reality. Then the next day is another cape which is a partisan pretend-fight over social security and who has the best plan to save it. Or, a cape that says the Republicans care more about education than the Democrats. Then we will have another Clinton scandal cape with the clowns adding entertaining distractions. The clowns are smart — they never get too close to the raging bull. Like the cowards that they are, they simply throw the bull what he wants to eat or drink and the bull backs down and goes back to the cape. The matador continues to stand untouched.

not quite chaos, but managed manufactured crises. real chaos, as in, things spinning out of anyone’s control, that is the absolute worst enemy of the ruling class. They have a hell of a lot more to lose from real chaos than us little people.
theyve gotten so used to manufacturing fake emergencies, and then pouncing with ready-made ‘solutions’ to them, that they probably dont have any real idea how to handle actual chaos anymore. Older generations of rougher, smarter, tougher men did, and yes many rose to power by dint of their abilities in that department.

WHAT STORY ARE THEY HIDING BY DISTRACTING US WITH ABORTION & GUNS?

As an officially credentialed, internationally acclaimed and multi-award winning rocket surgeon of legendary renown, Walt can attest to the fact that even though this QOTD is a trick question, answering it in no way pertains to anything akin to rocket surgery. Indeed, while the glaring simplicity of the inquiry may be purely accidental, it is statistically more probable that in current year, in the interest of intersectionality and inclusivity, the QOTD has been formulated so as to appeal to the half wits and drooling retards among us, which is commendable. Either way, the simplicity of the QOTD makes for a welcome change.
It is therefore Walt’s professional opinion that as long as one understands the false premise of the question (the trick), even the dimmest of bulbs could appreciate the answer.
But first, and for the benefit of those of particularly low wattage, let’s expose the trick:

It’s not a story they’re hiding, but a reality.

The answer then, becomes self evident:
Atop a foundation of ‘democracy’ (which necessarily creates a ‘house divided’), a smorgasbord of ‘hot button’ issues are heaped. While mostly irrelevant, they are often logically inconsistent, at odds with observed reality, demonstrably nonsensical and an insult to common sense. The barrage of issues is a constant and the focus on them is constantly changing, which is a deliberate tactic employed in order to magnify confusion.
Purposefully engineered as divisive, these petty distractions (‘viruses’, masks, inflation, immigrants, ‘insurrections’, war, re-set, trannies, censorship, ‘hate speech’, race, ‘abortion & guns’, etc. etc.), are selectively and relentlessly promulgated to ensure that, as a matter of the utmost importance, the legions of mouth breathing and generally useless (but latently intelligent) plebs are kept so busy arguing and fighting amongst themselves that they never have a chance to think. .

“All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone.” ― Blaise Pascal

So rather than a mere ‘story’, what’s being hidden is a reality – that if everyone stopped going along with the nonsense, the TPTB would stop getting away with it.

Specifically, should the plebs be allowed the luxury of having a few moments of quiet and uninfluenced contemplation, they’d quickly realise the con – that their fellows aren’t their natural enemies, that they have all been led up the proverbial garden path and, most horrifyingly for TPTB, together they vastly outnumber their tormentors, who as a clique of murderous psychopaths and with the technologies they have at their disposal, pose an existential threat to all of humanity.
They would arrive at the understanding that although most are still walking around, they have recently been murdered by the COVID vax and if they don’t act soon, they won’t be around to do anything about it later.

Most concerningly for TPTB, the walking dead would also realise that the executions should have started well before now, and would go on to conclude that, ‘well, better late than never…’.

“Irving Langmuir took his seat in a roomful of people who had just changed the world. It was September 19, 1945, & every famous physicist in the nation – along with eminences from other sciences & humanities as well – seemed to be here at the University of Chicago. Langmuir had seen some of them at a dinner the previous month for the American-Soviet Science Society. Now they had all been summoned to Chicago by the university’s dynamic young chancellor, Robert Hutchins, for a SECRET CONFERENCE {{we need us a new constitution, boys}} on the scientific & social ramifications of the atomic bomb.

Chicago had played a critical role in the Manhattan Project: Enrico Fermi & Leo Szilard had achieved the first self-sustaining nuclear reaction there in 1942. Now many of the nation’s most prominent physicists were headed for Chicago to join its new Institute for Nuclear Studies. But it was crucial that the bomb be contemplated not just as a technical problem but a SOCIAL ONE {{gimme a lever long enough – to compensate for mine own teensy-weensy – & a fulcrum on which to place it, & I shall mooooo!ve the world. Archimedes, with his war machine inventions, was like the GE of his day. the wheels on the short bus go round & round. and the would-be immortal sword weilders say “there can be only ONE!”}}. The atomic era had begun, & no one knew what came next.

The general mood was grim. A terrible thought was troubling many scientific minds: not every scientific advance was necessarily good for humanity {{d’oh! say the homer sapiens}}. Leo Szilard set the conference’s tone with a speech full of foreboding. The bombs that HAD FALLEN {{shhhh! passive sotto voce}} in Japan, he said, had a ONE-MILE RADIUS of destruction {{radiation? generational congenital horrors? anyone? anyone? the good MD’s in-house cop-to is 250,000 killed outright per annum…but the ones that take longer to be not to be, as in murdered, aren’t counted at all}}. Atomic bombs in ten years would have a destruction radius ten times greater. The Soviets would inevitably get the bomb, probably in two & a half years, & in six years they would have enough of them to destroy every major city in America. The United States by that time would have built enough atomic bombs to destroy every major city on the planet. The only hope was international control of all atomic energy, which required something drastic: WORLD GOVERNMENT {{the short bus believes a bigger-biggest bus will solve all}}. This would probably only come about through WORLD WAR III {{this is a different virtue of selfishness division, ayn-girl}}: he estimated the chance of instituting world government without war at only ten percent.

Some in the audience objected to such a dire forecast, arguing that world peace could be possible without world government. Others argued that Szilard was probably wrong about the Soviets getting the bomb so soon. Irving Langmuir spoke up then. He had BEEN {{some arguments from authority – “I was there” – have more authority than others}} to Russia just a few months earlier, he said, & he agreed with Szilard. The Soviets would catch up in less than five years, probably more like two or three. Their science WOULD {{nostradamassmurder is ever on the horizon, boys}} surpass ours in ten. The critical question was how much information the United States should share with them. In his opinion, the United States should share its science FREELY {{like all info wants to be freely, & not evil, right ace? KISS it, you terrible musicians.}}.

Many scientists agreed. SCIENCE ABHORS SECRECY {{gtf outta here}}. It was said that the ARMY {{oh, no. the bad cop other cop – not us enlightened savior-shepherd…cops}} was going to seek legislation giving it total control of all atomic bomb research so it could continue to keep the details classified. But to the scientists, the idea of keeping the atomic secret was ABSURD {{pot-kettle-black. pandora done been prised, deflowered. now all we can do is smoke hopium.}}. Other nations would get atomic capability; the only question was when.

What the scientists HOPED for was international control, including an inspection system that would keep nations from building more bombs. Langmuir pointed out that it wasn’t such a bad thing that the Russians would have the bomb soon: once other nations had nuclear weapons, it would be LESS LIKELY {{the kinda expert that shoots for knowin more & more ‘bout less & less til he knows everything bout nuthin}} that the United States would use them. The military strategist Bernard Brodie was there, & he agreed with Langmuir. The following year he would publish “War in the Atomic Age” in a collection called *The Absolute Weapon*. The essay would be a founding text of what came to be known as the theory of nuclear deterrence.

But many in the room RECOILED {{like john moses browning’s .38lc upgrade? damn those insolent filipinos refusing to flip for good ol avuncular sammy the Teflon don!}} from the idea of peace through a balance of power BASED ON FEAR {{be recoiless…sotto passive voce}}. To most of those present, seeing atomic war as a kind of *GAME* {{thrones it is was will be}} was MORALLY {{gtf outta here}} repugnant. Worse still would be a world in which nations raced to out-arm one another, building bigger & more fearsome weapons. Already the Manhattan Project physicist Edward teller was advocating building a “Super bomb,” a hydrogen atomic bomb that would make the first A-bombs look puny. But not many in Chicago agreed with him. Most of the scientists gathered there were convinced that an atomic arms race would be nothing less than the end of the world.

In fact, many seemed to feel guilty about their role in having created the first superweapon. This seemed illogical to Irving. THE ATOMIC BOMB HAD ENDED THE WAR & UNQUESTIONABLY SAVED MANY LIVES, JAPANESE AS WELL AS AMERICAN {{cogdisdaddy to the rescue ♪♫♪}}. Yet many of the Chicago scientists seemed to feel it SHOULDN’T {{buyers’ remorse figleaf post 3-day right of recision: you took the fuckin money, sonny…corleone}} have been dropped or even that they shouldn’t have made it. “The physicists have known sin,” the head of Los Alamos, J. Robert Oppenheimer, would later declare, “& this is a knowledge they cannot lose.”

Many scientists had read H.G. Wells’s 1914 novel *The World Set Free*, a story that takes place in a future where scientists have harnessed atomic energy. Rather than ushering in a new era of ease & enlightenment, atomic power causes massive SOCIAL {{the “anti” prefix always gets lopped}} upheaval & world war. The world is finally “set free” when humans realize that a technological ADVANCE {{war is peace}} as momentous as atomic power calls for an end to nationalism & a new era of world government in which science becomes “THE NEW KING OF THE WORLD” {{jimmy cagney, white heat, “look ma! top of the world!”}}.

Szilard was so taken by the book that he ordered a copy of it for the Chicago SCIENTISTS {{fictionists}}. Along with most of the conference participants, he agreed with Wells’s main thesis: once scientific knowledge reaches a certain level, separate sovereign states are no longer possible. In the atomic era, nations go the way of coal: they would be replaced by something BETTER {{revenge of the nerds}}.

At the conference the scientists HAMMERED OUT A CONSENSUS {{no estwings for this east wing pandering bunch of hammerhead sharks…}} based on three simple points: there was no secret that could be kept {{{blood in the water}}}, there was no defense against the bomb {{{benchley’s jaws via spielberg gonna getcha}}}, & there must be international control of atomic energy {{{quint & brody & hooper … 3 wise men-like, on the good ship Orcasm}}}. They decided to FORM A GROUP {{gang-gilding the lily livers, that}}, the Federation of Atomic Scientists (later changed to the Federation of American Scientists), dedicated to EDUCATING {{carve a letter on the end of a steel bar – the punch ;;; gutenberg’s movable type is a hammer, for heads, “swung” by/for hammerhead sharks}} the public – AND the government – about this new technology. It was, the anthropologist Robert Redfield declared, their MORAL DUTY {{gtf outta here}}. With that, what was known as the Scientists’ Movement was born. It made its public debut with a two-page statement published in *LIFE* {{irony}} magazine. The statement HEWED {{hacks gotta hack…see below somewhere}} to the three main points: no secret, no defense, international control.

As one of America’s most famous scientists, Irving Langmuir was in a position to take their message to the people. He stuck to the SCRIPT {{i’m close-up ready, mr. demille}}, at least at first. In October, he testified before a Senate subcommittee, predicting that Russian science would TRUMP {{derangement syndrome}} America’s in ten to twenty years. In November, he addresses a joint meeting of the American Philosophical Society & the National Academy of Sciences, insisting that an atomic war could make the earth uninhabitable & that “WORLD CONTROL {{by the bestbrightest that have brought the world to this pass…pretty convenient, all this faux chi}} of all atomic energy seems the only alternative.” But in late November, back before the Senate to argue for an international agreement, he argued that “the governments of the United States, Britain & Canada make immediate contacts with the Russian government to secure, if possible, their tentative agreement instead of relying solely on the more cumbersome machinery of the United Nations.”

At heart, Irving was a PRAGMATIST {{ends justify means, count up the utils, whoever has the most “wins”}}. Sure, he’d had his youthful flirtation with SOCIALISM {{prefix, people!}}, but like so many men of his age & status he had settled into a low-key LAISSEZ-FAIRE CONSERVATISM {{like military intelligence, right?}}. Theoretically, he had no problem with the concept of world government. But instituting it was likely to be difficult. Science would progress most SMOOTHLY {{until shit through a goose worldgov could finally be manna from heaven wrought}} if the Western powers simply stuck together & did their best to pacify the Russians.

Also unlike many of his colleagues, Irving knew & accepted that science would never return to its prewar openness {{of patent the fook outta everything…”open” – right, sesame?}}. He was not an academic but an industrial researcher at one of the nation’s biggest defense contractors. Government security clearance had always been an informal requirement at the GE Research Lab. Soon it would become mandatory for employment. This didn’t worry Irving. He didn’t see how it could possibly become a problem….” tbc after this brief pause from one of our predescessor sponsors:

It was August, 1892. ‘Perhaps my factories will put an end to war even sooner than your congresses,’ Alfred Nobel said. ‘On the day when two army corps may mutually annihilate each other in a second, probably all civilized nations will RECOIL {{beginning to think this reflex term is full autocolon, not semicolon}} with {{rocky}} HORROR {{picture show}} & disband their troops.’”

“…Chicago was a dream come true. Kurt & Jane’s apartment on Ellis Avenue was within walking distance of the university…& they loved the university. Chicago was a heady place to be. The school had always been a magnet for leftists, skeptics, bohemians, & civil rights activists {{{& Milton friedman monetarists}}}; now the issues raised by the bomb gave its intellectual life a new urgency. But Chicago’s thinkers weren’t WALLOWING in atomic dread {{isn’t wallowing in selling atomic dread – unless you do as we say – still wallowing, albeit gleefully, in atomic dread?}}. They were stepping up to help shape this new atomic age. Hyde Park buzzed with a new prospect: that, just as in H.G. Wells’s novel *The World set Free*, humanity had LEARNED {{been “taught-drill instructed” – defrauded & coerced…all too willingly – tough love, there can be only one love}} its lesson at last.

Kurt & Jane EMBRACED {{turn, turn, turn ♪♫♪}} the idea. The horror of Hiroshima could at least bring this new HOPE {{ffs}}: that human beings might finally CHANGE {{like caterpillars meta’ing into beautiful butterflies, pinned inside one big beautiful tropical wood display case called “the world”}}, might finally move beyond the outmoded nation-state & form a world government. If SO, there MIGHT be HOPE for the elimination of war {{sigh}}. Some scientists were even acting on their conviction that they must lead the way in RENOUNCING violence {{I’m a pacifist nuclear bomb builder…i’m like jackson’s jules in pulp fiction doin the post-carnage kwai chang caine thing, just “walking the land”}}. In the Spring of 1946, as the government prepared to test atomic bombs by dropping them on a fleet of captured enemy ships at Bikini Atoll, some prominent scientists, including J. Robert Oppenheimer, REFUSED to take part {{that’s some rousseauian noble savage shit right there}}.

It was gratifying that Chicago was at the center of this movement. Chicago chancellor Robert Hutchins & physicist Leo Szilard were leading spokesmen for the world government cause. The Chicago-based Federation of American Scientists published the first issue of its journal, the *Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists*, the month after Kurt & Jane arrived. Soon after that, it put out the bestseller *One World OR {{else}} None: A Report to the Public on the Full Meaning of the Atomic Bomb, a collection of passionate essays advocating international control of atomic energy. Contributors included Albert Einstein, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Leo Szilard, Edward Condon, & Irving Langmuir.

Kurt’s own anthropology professor Robert Redfield had helped form the University Office of Inquiry into the SOCIAL {{anti…}} Aspects of Atomic Energy & had joined Chicago’s Committee to Draft a World Constitution. He believed that the social sciences – ESPECIALLY {{hmmm}} anthropology – were going to be critical in helping humanity ADJUST {{the ol’ sunstein nudge}} its institutions for the new atomic age.

Kurt admired Redfield, whose work he began to follow when he switched his specialization to cultural anthropology. He had started off studying physical anthropology, which had charts & maps & measurements & all kinds of complicated theories, making it comforting to someone who valued scientific thinking. But there were also tedious scientific tasks, like measuring the size of early human brains by POURING grains of rice INTO THEIR SKULLS {{that’d be Prussian rice, to be precise}}, then measuring the rice. Disappointed, Kurt had gone to his advisor & confessed that the science bored him; he would rather study poetry. The advisor had recommended cultural anthropology, “poetry which *PRETENDS* {{prehensile depends captures all that embarrassing incontinence}} to be scientific.” Kurt liked the idea, & threw himself into the NEW {{redrum killing}} FIELD {{red, blood red, red-blooded americanism}}.

He filled his notebooks with cramped notes: phases of different cultures; notes on cultivation, ceramics, human sacrifices & metallurgy; ideas about literacy, agriculture, the development of moral orders. He learned about vast arrays of cultures: Finns, Kazakhs, South Pacific Islanders, Mayans, Incas, ancient Chinese, Turks, Native Americans. He devoured journal articles, marking them up with red pencil. He studied Turkish linguistics. It was still rigorous & precise. But now all that precision was being directed toward something he actually cared about: not molecules or cells or atoms, but human beings & the cultures they made. {{{no compartments doesn’t mean no boundaries}}}

He was especially taken with Professor Redfield’s ideas about the changes & dislocations that result when small isolated communities – Redfield called them folk societies – EVOLVE into sprawling, heterogeneous cultures {{volkswagens getting in touch with inner cadillacs}}. Culture, Professor Redfield declared, was in a constant state of flux; even the moral order was always forming, dissolving, reforming. Culture wasn’t something that simply happened to humans; it was something THEY {{who??}} could tinker with. You could see it happening as the atomic age washed over Chicago & the university’s BEST MINDS {{oh, them}} worked on reshaping the culture to accommodate it.

Kurt could play his part in that by writing. So he attempted, once more, to write about his Dresden experience in an essay called “Wailing Shall Be in All Streets.” It was, like his letter home, pointed & concise. It began with an account of basic training & how the infantry were urged to “kill, kill, kill,” without being told very clearly why they were fighting. “A lot of people relished the idea of total war, “ he wrote; “it had a modern ring to it, in keeping with our spectacular technology.” But the war, he wrote, had left him “sick at heart.” The reason was simple: “In February, 1945, Dresden, Germany, was destroyed, & with it over one hundred thousand human beings. I was there.” {{{still sounds like actual boots on ground empathy was pretty easily displaced by theoretical empathy, tho…}}}

*I was there.* It was something he would say again & again. {{{but now I am here, & wherever I go, there I am … if ya fooled me over *there* chances are better than good a change of venue’ll fool me again, too}}}
He went on to tell of his experience helping to find & burn bodies after the firestorm. But then the essay devolved into several pages of outright moralizing.

“There can be no doubt that the allies fought on the side of right & the Germans & the Japanese on the side of wrong. World War II was fought for near-Holy motives. But I stand convinced that the brand of justice in which we dealt, wholesale bombings of civilian populations, was blasphemous.” {{{no…yes…”them” too}}}

He sent “Wailing” to *The American Mercury*, which rejected it, but editor Charles Angoff suggested Kurt send the magazine something else.

He tried a different tack in an essay called “I Shall Not Want,” where he tried to convey what it felt like to starve. Here he tried to keep the tone light, thinking maybe he could sell it to *Gourmet*. Some part worked, such as his account of how the prisoners kept journals full of fantastical descriptions of meals they would eat once free, arguing about whose imagined menus were best. But other parts were over-formal, tendentious even. Jane went through it with a pen, striking out stilted constructions & wordiness. It helped, but not enough. Kurt sent it off to *The New Republic’s* college essay contest. The prize was a summer internship at the magazine. He didn’t win.

In July, Kurt & Jane vacationed at Lake Maxinkuckee….That month, Congress passed an act creating the Atomic Energy Commission. It felt hopeful: like the first step on the road away from madness & toward SANITY {{in the cuckoos’ nest}} through world government.” ~ The Brothers Vonnegut: Science & Fiction in the House of Magic, Ginger Strand (2015)

But learners are rare. Driving that big rig in reverse takes more than just practice, too. Always has mirage been preferred to using mirrors correctly & well. And all those autonomously-backing rigs have mostly always had it in for smartypants immune systems, & support systems, too.
And the socios know all about that downward curve-fitting penchant, that gravity of the blade, & the innate necessity therefore for lots of pre-separated from bodies heads to attain post separation terminal velocity – with or without the nicety of a catch-basket (recall the “sacrifice” scene from Apocalypto … & just who were the sociopaths in that one, btw? Might be easier to pick out the non-socio ones, since there were zero of those.).
