My thoughts exactly.

Hard to beat night vision/suppressed from “unknown” direction.

Make sure it is real night vision.

IR ain’t.

Cheap “night vision” is just IR illumination. Basically a big sign saying dumbass thinks he is stealthy.

There are some VERY good thermal riflescopes for under $2k now.

He he he. That’s why I advocate for thermal and night vision here on these boards as a matter of routine.

Round out the tactical gear, brothers and sisters. These capabilities may be worth more than gold in the coming months and years.

Also — with the inflationary chaos about to land on our shores, the question of what to do with our money now while it still spends is answered in a few main ways, one of which is to grab what you can now while these material things can still be had.

Thermal and night vision are definitely worth considering.

And I can tell you from experience, these items are FLYING off the shelves all across the country. LOTS of folks are spending LOTS of money on quality gear like this right now. An example: Midway USA had three Trijcon REAP IR thermal rifle scopes in their inventory one week ago. Eight grand a piece. Today they have none. And the webpage says their resupply is now well overdue.

Get em now while you still can, and become familiar with the devices before the shitstorm lands. And buy the best gear you can afford. Buy once; cry once.

Two things:
1 – If momma can’t wean her calf without help from me, she’s not going to stay in my herd.
2 – IF (big if) the coyotes aren’t going after my calves, they get to stay. Coyotes are very territorial and I don’t want to kill something that’s not a problem only to replace it with something that may be a problem.

I love it how you always manage to turn a simple story from the farm into a philosophical theme of human tenacity and achievement in general.

Years ago I read a post-apocalyptic story where the protagonist owned some military night vision he kept after his service.

One line I’ll never forget out of the book who’s title I DO forget is:

“He who rules the night rules the day.”

Got night vision?

Why doesn’t he let loose a couple Great Pyrenees that’ll rip the guts out of those coyotes. Donkeys hate em and will stomp the crap out of coyotes. At least that’s my understanding.

Good night vision and thermal rules the battlefield.
In a true SHTF environment you need to see them before they see you.

It was said the US owned the night in Afghanistan and the mullahs wouldn’t even come out. Thanks to Branden, that won’t be the case anymore.

LOL!! For the predator to become the prey, you have to be able to accurately identify the real predator, not his front men who do his/their bidding. The real predator(s) is/are insulated by so many layers of front men/women, governments, institutions/quasi-governmental agencies, the variety flavors of christianity (that worships the real predator), the Vatican/Jesuits, publishing houses, communism, Marxism, fascism, socialism, Jacobinism, illuminati, Rosicrucians, knights Templar, knights of Malta, so-called education centers more aptly described as intoxication centers of propaganda, et al. If you think Klaus Schwab and Anthony Fauci and other overt in-your-face duplicitous minions like them are the predators, then you are lost. They are merely the devil predators’ angels/messengers doing the predators dirty work. Donald Trump is closer in familial connection to the predators but until you know more, you will never believe it. Just take a look for the various definitions for the word “trump.” Words and especially those used as names are vital in opening the labyrinth of lies.

You are behaving in precisely the expected behavior patterns by focusing your outrage on those you can see rather than searching for the hidden hand. And journalists keep you looking in the wrong direction and you haven’t a clue.

My .223 Ackley spits out the Nosler 55 gr BT at 3960 fps. But what bullet is he using? The shrapnel kills are impressive. I have gotten three prairie dogs with one shot. Two were from bone fragments. My bullets rarely go thru the target. But what comes out is lethal.

Own two FLIR IR cameras. With water damage, greyscale is useless. Need full multicolor spectrum. Here, it seems to work. But how can you employ it to shoot? Need goggles with it or night vision.

None of the professional grade thermal rifle scopes have a color palette.

They all use white hot and/or black hot polarity. User’s choice depending on certain variables. Over the years, operators learned that color palettes were more of a hindrance than an asset, so the manufacturers of professional thermal sighting systems stopped offering color as an option.

Cheaper civilian devices still offer the various color palettes because newbies all expect to see that “Predator” look when they eyeball their thermals.

But as you say, for commercial purposes other than hunting or combat, certain color palettes are still useful.

Mr. Quakers the guard duck goes off and people about crap their pants. Dogs and fences and bright lights to blind people. Layers of defense before getting to me. I wonder what happens to your night vision when really bright off-road lights turn on and you’re wearing these things. I would buy a FLIR unit if I had the money.

When professional grade 3rd gen night vision optics encounter bright lights unexpectedly, nothing happens. The operator can adjust the gain in about a second. The operator will be unaffected by bright lights — you can’t blind a fella when he’s wearing quality NVGs.

Of course, that’s not what Hollywood would have you believe.

Sorry, but that makes me a bit sad. And fearful.

I don’t gainsay the rancher, and am not a fan of coyotes, etc. But fuck! we’re all out trying to make a living.

I’m imagining some FBI guy like Lon Horiuchi, taking a bead on me and mine. They have the best of the best tech, and they will stop you cold, then make cracks about pancakes.

The worst part is, old Lon will not be anywhere in the area. It will be some soy-boy with a drone who takes you out, and will laugh and grab another Mountain Dew and Rainbow Doritos, before clocking out with his sweet salary, pension, and benefits…
