The 1.28 Billion is only if you take the 20 year payout. Immediate payout is much less and then taxes are taken by Uncle Sugar and if you live in a state that has income taxes, they get their share before you see a dime.

In the 50’s, the state of Oklahoma passed a bond bill to build the Turner Turnpike from OKC to Tulsa. It was 3+ hours to drive the old Route 66 through all the little towns and the turnpike would cut it down to just over 1.5 hr. The state promised the road would become a freeway as soon as the bonds were paid off. 65 years later, it is still a toll road because they keep re-issuing the bonds to build more turnpikes.
NEVER trust anything the government tells you.

Yep. There was a provision that it would remain a Tollway as long as the Toll Authority was in debt. Remember the thing was within an inch of being paid off and they borrowed a shit load of money so they could keep paying their patronage army with Tollway jobs.
In Massachusetts they built the MassPike and bonded over 30 years. Then as the end of the 30 years was about up and the Pike was to be turned into a freeway, the turnpike authority rebonded it for thirty more years to borrow money to build new toll booths. Which wouldn’t have been needed had the Pike not built them.
That is really screwing over the drivers.
I’d bet that the $433 million winner will be broke and miserable within five years.

Imagine how I would blow open the surveillance nationally, trigger a civil war, and ride the zeitgeist, maybe right into high office myself, where the fun would really begin. They cannot allow that kind of power to land randomly on just anyone’s head when they have this much to lose. It could destroy their entire operation. That is not how intelligence operates. It maintains full control at all times, and leaves nothing to chance. I even wonder if all the lottery winners we get told blew through all their money were simply regular ground surveillance, who were told, “Look, we have an acting gig. You pretend to win a $400 million lottery, we will fund a millionaire lifestyle for four years at a cost of $4 million, and then the script is you blew through all the money, and have to go back to work, and we will reinsert you into a life doing ground-level surveillance while living a middle-class life as a manager at Home Depot.”
