SVARGA LOKA´s MUSINGS FROM GERMANY

Guest Post by Svarga Loka

1) Masks

It is getting old and boring to write about masks after all these years and months, but I figured that my observations might be interesting. I flew to Germany from Boston a few days ago to visit my family. This is the first time in 1.5 years that I did not have to get a Covid test either direction to fly. Masks were not required from Boston to Ireland, and only about handful of passengers out of 250 or so chose to wear one. Of note: the line for security at Logan was INSANE. It wrapped all around the perimeter of the terminal, which I have never seen before.

I am not sure if numbers of travelers are up, or if number of TSA officers are down. There were signs advertising that the TSA is hiring those (something along the lines of “Do a job that makes a difference”). The plane for the transatlantic flight was completely full. Since I was traveling with children, our entire party did not have to go through the side scatter scanner or whatever technology they use nowadays, which is what always happens when you have children with you. On other flights in the past when I was by myself, I always opt out of that.

To my surprise, when I got to the connecting flight from Dublin, Ireland to Germany, there were signs and announcements that masks were mandatory for the entire duration of the flight. In the waiting area, just like on the prior flight, only about 2-5% of the passengers wore masks. When boarding, all of them put their masks on, except me and my children. Our boarding passes were checked and we entered the plane. On the plane, again, multiple announcements that masks are required. I simply pretended to only speak Kroatian or something and I ignored the announcements. Of note, I carry a simply piece of paper with me, written by myself, that states “Mrs. Svarga Loka is not allowed to wear a face covering for health reasons.”, signed and stamped by myself.

I briefly considered to tell the flight attendant that I have an exemption and show her my paperwork, but I decided to just wait and see. None of the flight attendants ever said anything. Clearly, they have been instructed to not confront any non-masked passengers. Meanwhile, of course, I could feel the piercing, angry looks by the other passengers, but I have learned to not care.

Next on the journey: The train ride. Again, I knew that there is a mask mandate in the trains. There were signs that you will have to pay a 150 Euro fine if you are caught maskless and will not be warned and given a chance to put on a mask. We sat down and waited to see what happened. Other passengers giving us the evil eye again. A group of four, about 60 years old talked about how their friend or sister currently has Covid, that they are not as scared as they used to be any more, given that they are now vaccinated, but “no, they will not take the fourth shot any more”.

The conductor shows up and says “If you don´t have an exemption, please put on a mask immediately”. I tell him that, yes, I do have an exemption and give him my ticket along with the 4 pages of mask exemption. Then, he was OVERLY friendly, told me that I can feel free to put my luggage next to the other seats and the kids could lie down to sleep and wishing us a pleasant ride. My suspicion is that he was extremely relieved that I did not give him a hard time, had the right paperwork and therefore did not cause any trouble. The fact that he is asked to be an enforcer of rules he may or may not agree with must be the worst part of his job, and he never knows when someone gets confrontational.

Later, I figured, I should show my unmasked face to as many people as possible, so that other people may feel emboldened in the future. Even though I did not have to pee, I walked the entire length of the train toward the bathroom, so that other people would see me. I was kindof hoping that anybody would confront me, but nobody ever did. Whether it made anybody think, I will never know.

2) Cost

Naturally, I talked to my parents about the energy situation here. On the news, yesterday, they talked about a small business owner of a butcher shop, who needs to cool his sausages and cold cuts 24/7 and his electricity prices have gone up 10fold and he does not know how to pay the bills, but he went wrong by asking the government to fix it.

My parents live in a house that was built in the 1960s, poorly insulated. In the basement, there are two 1500-L oil tanks for a total capacity of 3000 liters. In a typical 12-month period, they go through about 2500 L. Last year, they paid 70 cents per liter, and right now it is 1.60 Euros (US $ and Euro are roughly at parity right now, which makes calculations easy). The high point for oil costs was over 2 Euros per liter in April 2022. So the total annual heating costs for my parents went from well under 2000 Euros per year to about 4000 Euros. I asked them what they will do when oil doubles in price and my Dad said “They can´t do that!” We shall see.

You have to realize that the typical income and cost of living in Germany are very different from the US. Certain items are much cheaper here and some are much more expensive.

I looked up the income for certain professions (per month, before taxes)
Hairdresser 1800
Car mechanic 2800
Nurse 3200
Software developer 5000
Physician 8000

The average governmental retirement benefit is 1600 Euros.

All these monthly salaries are before taxes. You will have to subtract roughly 50% for social security contributions, taxes and health insurance, so that the net pay is about half of what is listed above, although the lower incomes have no or little taxes and social security payments.

So if you know that a nurse might have about 1600 of “spending money” every month, you can easily see that it would be difficult to absorb an increase in heating costs by, say, Euros a month.

For retirees it is even more difficult. I do not want to disclose the income of my parents, but let´s just assume that they are average. Then, my Dad would get 1600 of monthly social security payment. My mother never worked and always stayed home with the children, so she gets nothing (unlike in the US, where someone like her who has never contributed would get 50% of her husband´s social security retirement). They could live on the 1600 Euros per month, but the increase in heating costs as described above from 2000 Euros to 4000 Euros would be a real hit for them.

If my Dad would die, it would leave my Mom seriously poor, because surviving spouse benefits are 60% of the benefits of the deceased, so 60% of 1600 Euros per month, which makes it very difficult to pay rent, food, electricity, water and heat.

As far as food costs are concerned, food has always been much cheaper in Germany than in the US, but I have noticed a marked increase in the last 6 months. A yoghurt went from 40 cents to 60 cents. A pound of apples from 50 cents to 80 cents. A pound of carrots from 30 cents to 50 cents. Meat is always much more expensive than vegetables, a pound of chicken breast now costs 5 Euros.

On the second day of our trip, we went to the local water park/swimming pool. It has a wave pool, lazy river and three slides. Think a smaller version of Great Wolf Lodge, but without the hotel. We always go to that water park when we come here, so I know when it is crowded and when not. Usually, it is really, really empty on school days in the morning, as expected. On weekends, it is crazy crowded, and on school vacation weekday, it is somewhere in between. Note that fall school vacation started this week, so when we went there on a weekday, I expected it to be at least moderately crowded. It was DEAD! Even emptier than I have seen on schooldays. I even said to the lady at the cash register that I was really surprised how empty it was. She answered that she is, too, but that people are probably travelling.

I doubt it. I think people are saving money and foregoing things like this water park, which cost me 21 Euros for the family ticket and 12 Euros for 3 fries. Total fo 33 Euros that many families do not have lying around any more.

Next day, I went to the local ice cream store. It is owned by an Italian couple who come to Germany selling ice cream during the season from May to November and spend the winters in Italy. They serve the most delicious Italian gelato, 45 flavors of it. I ordered our ice cream to go, and then told them that their ice cream is one of our favorite things to do when we are in Germany and that we live in the US. Essentially, I told them, we are flying half way around the world, in part for their ice cream, which made them smile. Then, I asked them how business was this year? Are they feeling it, that people are not flush with money any more? They said that, no, this summer was actually quite good because the weather was very hot, but right now, this month, is when they are noticing a marked downturn. I told them that I also think that it is NOW that people are starting to cut back.

Then, the wife asked me: “So what is it like in the US?”

How do you answer that? What IS it like in the US? In 2-3 sentences? (Please write your answers below)

I decided not to say “We are waiting for the apocalypse. Should be any day now”, but that, well, we are not as worried about our energy supply there, but (I decided to say something they can relate to) that it is strange to see that people appear to be hurting for money, and yet it seems to be impossible to find employees, across all types of businesses. The husband responded that he noticed that, too, that it was always hard to find waitstaff and restaurant help, but that now, every hairdresser, car repair shop and shoe store seems to not be able to find workers. Why is that? He didn´t know.

On Sunday, I am planning to take our kids to the local amusement park. For German income levels, it is expensive, at 30 Euros per adult and 25 Euros per child. If my theory is correct, it should be completely empty there.

My theory is as follows (it is not anything new, and not rocket science either): There was always that segment of the population which has barely enough money to make ends meet and put food on the table. Going to that water park was never an option for those. But NOW, we are experiencing for the first time since the economic boom of the 1950s-60s that those that were solidly middle class (nurses, accountants, small business owners etc) starting to be really worried about not being able to pay their bills, cut back on unnecessary expenses. They will not TELL you about it, even if you know them well, but you can see it by the emptiness of these businesses.

That waterpark had all sorts of Corona restrictions over the last 2 years. First, no mask but you had to leave your name and address for contact tracing. Then, masks but no contact tracing. Then, only vaccinated allowed. All of that time, to my surprise the pool was very crowded. Now, The corona measures are gone, and the pool is empty for economic reasons.

Mission accomplished by those that want nothing but to harm us by any means possible.

But Germany is so much more ‘DIVERSE’ after years of Merkel’s mass immigration from Africa.
So you can be thankful for that…….

At the public swimming pool, there were approximately 90% of what I would describe as heritage Germans with their families, and 10% teenage/adolescent boys of Turkish descend, in groups of 6-10. They are second generation, descending from the Turkish workers who came here in the 1960s, speak accent free German, and they tend to stay in groups of their own and do not mingle with German teenagers.

The 1.5 million Syrians (in a country of 80 million) who came in 2015 obviously do not have the financial means of going to a place like that.

I have not seen a single black person in the last 4 days.

Took our daugher horseback riding. Six little blonde girls on their ponies.

There is not much overlap between different societal groups and they live mostly in parallel in the same towns, but without running into each other.

Europe takes in so many third world people that it is unfit to live in, people packed shoulder to shoulder like NYC and L.A. who in their right mind would want to tour there anyway? Crime is super high and very little police protection from criminal acts.

Svarga,
I’m curious, where do your parents live in Germany?
I lived in Frankfurt A Main from 1988-1993 and in Weiden (Bavaria) from 2007-10.
I still have one very good friend in Germany. I converse her with and give her the news about Germany from the US perspective. She has a lot of complaints about “lazy migrants” receiving too much social welfare.
It seems the propaganda is more severe over there. Much news is either untold or quite different from what we get here.
BTW, I absolutely love Germany and traveled extensively throughout Europe. I’m afraid if I went back I wouldn’t recognize the place
Thanks

Those from Muslim countries also breed like rats. Then welfare for whole families means high taxes. European men are cowards, refusing to stand up for their rights, family and stopping these invaders coming in 24/7.

I died one time in a car accident.

That was almost 50 years ago, but is still quite clear.

Plainfield – Truth is stranger than Shit Stiring!

It’s obvious from the bookshelves and the big screen that heaven is on everyone’s mind. All of us long to know what life after death will be like. Bestselling author John Burke is no exception. For decades, he has been studying accounts of people who have had near-death experiences (NDEs). While not every detail of individual NDEs correlate with Scripture, Burke shows how the common experiences shared by thousands of survivors clearly point to the God of the Bible and the exhilarating picture of heaven he promises.

Imagine Heaven is an inspirational journey through the Bible’s picture of heaven, colored in with the real-life stories of heaven’s wonders. Burke compares gripping stories of NDEs to what Scripture says about our biggest questions of heaven: Will I be myself? Will I see friends and loved ones? What will it look like? What is God like? What will we do forever? What about children and pets? This book will propel readers into an experience that will forever change their view of the life to come and the way they live life today. It also tackles the tough questions of heavenly reward and hellish NDEs. Anyone interested in NDEs or longing to imagine heaven more clearly will enjoy this fascinating and hope-filled book.

Yeah, but the real problem is trust in authority.
People have foregone their critical thinking skills and abdicated common sense. They’re bound to be less informed nowadays and rely on “experts” who have no problem gaslighting or passing off misinformation in order to profit at the common peoples expense.

This is exactly where we are now. The sociopaths in charge have further insulated themselves with legislation to protect themselves from accountability. It’s gotten so bad we’ll have to literally remove the sonsab*tches by forcible means because such people won’t leave power behind peaceably.

There are those who derive meaning in power over others, and there are those who are simply happy to mind their own business leading harmless, productive lives.

We’ve reached an imbalance as the former have become to overbearing, thieving and oppressing the latter. At some point there will be conflict and balance will be restored … and yes, it may mean relieving the “vampires” from their pitiful existences.

I have a good friend that lives here in the states that is German. He tells me that the German people are very good at following orders / instructions. Rarely do any of them push back on what the government tells them to do. They are good “soldiers”.

I follow Michael Yon on his Locals channel as well as other social media. He has been all over Europe for the last 3 months reporting daily on conditions, especially in Germany. He says that the forests there are getting stripped of their wood so that they can be burned for heat this winter. One big problem is that this wood is mostly green and not seasoned. Also, many of the forests are pine forests so, there will probably be a substantial amount of chimney fires from creosote from the oily pine.

The United States declares war on Russia, Germany, the Netherlands and France

While the international press treats the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines as a news item, we analyze it as an act of war against Germany and the European Union…

Since the disappearance of the Soviet Union, the United States has developed a map of the world that disrupts international relations, leading it to overthrow governments and wage wars in order to build transportation routes for energy sources…

Until September 26, the economy of the Union was mainly based on the production of German industry. By cutting off Nord Stream, the United States destroyed German industry. In the famous words of Lord Ismay, the first Secretary General of NATO, the aim of the Anglo-Saxons was “to keep the Americans in, the Russians out and the Germans under control”…

Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who was elected in December 2021, has made two serious mistakes in a few months. On December 7, he went to the White House where he tried to resist the United States’ demand that he stop accepting Russian gas. Back home, he chose to maintain Nord Stream and block Nord Stream 2, while seeking renewable sources. He thought, wrongly, that he was balancing the warmongering of US strategic thinking, the needs of his industry and the doctrine of the Greens, members of his government coalition.

The Chancellor had had a close call: during his press conference with the US President, Joe Biden said that his country could destroy Nord Stream 2 and that if Russia invaded the Ukraine, he would do so. It was absolutely frightening for Scholz to hear his overlord spit in his face that he could destroy a tens of billions of dollars investment if a third party acted without regard to his dictates. We do not know whether President Biden also mentioned the destruction of Nord Stream 1 during the closed-door talks, but it is not impossible. In any case, according to the German journalists who followed him, the chancellor returned to Germany pale.

His second mistake was made on September 16, 2022. His country wanted to get out from under the Anglo-Saxon umbrella and ensure its own security as well as that of the entire European Union. « As the most populous nation, with the greatest economic power and located at the center of the continent, our army must become the pillar of conventional defence in Europe, » the chancellor said. By specifying that he was only talking about “conventional defence”, he intended to spare the susceptibility of his French neighbor, the only nuclear power in the Union. He did not realize that he was violating the Straussian doctrine by imagining that he was escaping from the US military protectorate. In 1992, Paul Wolfowitz signed the Defense Policy Guidance, excerpts of which were published in the New York Times. He indicated that the United States would consider any desire for European emancipation as a cassus belli [3].

Six days later, Navy Seals blew up the two gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea, setting Germany back eleven years.

On the German news, you hear only about how the Ukraine is regaining territories of the illegally annexed territories and how much pushback is there from Russians against the conscription. Basically Ukraine! Ukraine! Ukraine! and Russia is losing.

Also, I saw rainbow flags in front of the grocery store and the Ukrainian flag in front of town hall today. That tells you all you have to know.

Grammar CHEKA says “poor’s died” is not proper for use of possessive as objective is to express third person plural of subject. Construction of major clause word string awkward. “…millions of the poor had died.” might be suggested as a clearer alternative for your point which is still crap Count.

Not true.
Millions checked out and decided to leave jobs or retire.
The local school boards never treated their bus drivers well where I live. I worked with and knew a lot of them, and they didn’t like the COVID-era restrictions. Even after raising pay to $30/hr for a 180-day part time job there are people who just don’t want to deal with the progressive administrative bullshit.

Svarga, thanks for reporting “tales from the front lines”
Twas interesting reading.

How is it in America? My take:

Mind boggling, if one allows it to be. Ignore much, and refocus on priorities.

Most of the aware ones are doing the best they can, with what they have, in the time allowed.

Now more than ever, attempting to seize the moments, of activities and pleasures desired, when creative opportunities for such can be enjoyed.

Be aware of the chaos and dangerous trends, but try not to bog down in them.
Go about living life, taking advantage of what few precious freedoms we can currently still enjoy.

And do not comply, with mindless obedience, to the mandates of deceptively evil direction.

Thrive, amidst the forecast, and count blessings instead of lamenting what has been sacrificed.

Good Luck!

The Americans that are awake (NOT woke) are using the time and available resources to prepare for what appears to be very difficult times ahead. The majority seem to be blindly heading for the cliff in ignorance. In my case I have stopped trying to warn those oblivious to the storm clouds that approach, since their ears are deaf to it.

Those that do not learn the lessons from history are doomed to repeat them.

Speaking of preparing. I advised my parents to get some flashlights, extra batteries etc. Basic stuff, which, up until recently, nobody “normal” did not have on their mind. Yesterday, he was all happy because he went to Woolworth (wasn´t Woolworth bankrupt? Or did they die in the US and reincarnate in Germany?) and bought the last two LED flashlights.

My parents also bought an electric supplemental heater a few weeks ago, and when they wanted to buy another one, it was sold out.

Flashlights and heaters: Good to have on hand, but will not save you in the apocalypse. I have tried to tell them to no avail that they should stock up on canned food and water.

This is hilarious as smeg… I can see the value of this immediately to be used on those days when its just so tedious to fight everyone in the room and still have to be somewhere. Plus it could be nothing but chicken scratches on a paper, a little game of charades and whos going to say different???

But well done with holding that gambit off and tell’n the zombies FU and then strutting it in their faces… Prescamdemic my wife wouldn’t go across the line from canukistan to murica because on returning the asswipes in the booth would toss disrespect at me and I’d return the favour three fold. Then during the scamdemic I never wore a mask and never avoided anyone. ALWAYS looked people in the eyes and grin.

My neighbour, with the psychologist wife, wore a mask and wondered if I had trouble ‘shopping’. I told him walk in like you own the frik’n place, never look down at the floor and make eye contact with anyone that looks at you. If they mumble towards you tell them you didn’t quite hear them and to repeat themselves. And have fun… He came back later to tell me it worked… converted a coward to a semi alfa male…

Well done in your travels and looking forward to the rest… cheers

I did not want the first comment to be too long, so here are some more thoughts:

Green agenda
The house across the street from my parent´s was also built in the 1960s. It is currently only standing as a skeleton of walls and the wooden attic beams. All of the interior has been removed, the shingles and the windows and doors, which all have to by separated and recycled by law. The owner recently died and the heir has decided to tear it down, most likely because to renovate it to the point of being in compliance with current future mandates for energy efficiency would cost as much money as tearing it down and rebuilding.

On that note, I caved and bought my children a Capri Sun. If you have children, you know what that is: a silvery juice box with an attached pointy straw that you use to poke a hole into the container at the predetermined spot. Note that the whole container is essentially made out of plastic. The new regulations prohibit plastic straws. The new straws are made out of cardboard. The cardboard straws are wrapped in plastic cellophane. Those straws are so flimsy and their point is so dull that you cannot poke a hole like you could with the prior plastic straws. My son struggled with the darn straw until it was a wet and bent cellulose clump, and then I tried to poke a hole using a fork and forcing the straw into it to no avail. We talked about how it makes no sense to have that single small component made out of cardboard when 90% of the juice box is made out of plastic. Most importantly, changing the material composition of the item rendered it entirely useless and my son joked how they made it SO biodegradable that it degrades before you had a chance of using it. Insanity!

Short of money
My Dad organizes a heating oil “club” once a year in the neighborhood. He calls around to ask about 30 home owners if they need any heating oil, and then he negotiates a good price for everyone with the oil delivery company. Therefore, he knows the purchasing habits of the neighborhood, and he also knows the heating oil capacity of most homes. Ours is 3000 liters, which is a relatively small capacity. Some of the other single family homes have a welded oil tank which fits up to 6000 liters. My Dad has noticed that many of the home owners who used to just want to fill up are now buying only 1000 liters every time. They claim that it is because they want to see if prices will come down, but my suspicion is that they simply do not have the money to fill up. In the newspaper today, there was a little article saying that one third of all Germans would not have 1000 Euro of emergency funds to pay an unexpected bill. I remember that the surveys in the US were similar.

When you drive around, you see plenty of the usual European smaller cars, the Fiats and Nissans and such. But then there is also still a large number of big cars, Audis, BMWs and Mercedes etc. At gasoline prices of 1.90 Euros per liter, I am surprised that people can still drive those cars.

It is probably like a friend of mine told me, who owns an art gallery. Of course, she notices that people are short of money, and art is one of the first things that people cut out, but there are also plenty of people for whom financial considerations are not a consideration and they continue to spend as they always have. When you go into town, there are still people sitting in the cafes sipping Latte Macchiato and buying their organic veggies at the farmer´s markets like they always have. In my opinion, they worry and cut back on their expenses silently. You won´t notice it immediately, and they certainly won´t tell you, because financial issues are not something you are proud of and necessarily share with acquaintances.

At one of the local upscale furniture stores, they have a cheap restaurant and a kids club, much like Ikea does, to lure you into the store. Today, I took the kids there so I could have a cup of coffee in peace while they play in the ball pit. For two years, the kids club was closed, it reopened this summer. No masks. They enjoyed themselves and then we walked around the huge store, three floors, to see the bathrooms and kitchens and most importantly the bunk beds with and without slides. The entire time we walked around, I saw about 10 employees but not a single customer ordering or even discussing a furniture purchase. At 3000 Euros for a King size bed, I wasn´t entirely suprised. I have no idea how a store like that is still in business.

My Dad sings in an all men´s choir. Every year, they had a well attended Christmas concert, except 2020 and 2021, due to Covid. The concert venue that they rented for that purpose seats 900 people, and it was always sold out. They typically sold the tickets for 20 Euros a pop, so they had a total revenue of 18000 Euros. The concert hall asked for 2500 for the evening´s rent, so there was a nice profit at the end of it. This year, they said that they think that they cannot ask for 20 Euros because people will not be able to pay that much. They were planning to ask for 10 Euros instead, and even with that, they think that they will not be able to sell more than 400 tickets. Meanwhile, the concert hall has increased the rental price to 4000 Euros per night, so overall it might be just barely doable financially. Therefore, they decided that they will cancel the Christmas concert. There goes another piece of cultural life in society. Everthing is cut back and pared down to just work, eat, sleep. All of what made society livable and social and cultural is gone.

That is particularly noticable with churches. There used to be 8 Lutheran churches in this town with 10 full time pastors, also covering ministries in the hospitals and teaching religion classes in the public schools. Now, there are only 5 full time pastors left, and that is set to be reduced to 3 in the next couple of years. There are no youth clubs, choirs, breakfasts, get togethers etc. left. The church where I used to go to only has a service once every two weeks now. 4 of the 8 churches are either slowly decaying or have been sold with possible plans to put restaurants or dance clubs into them, or are either already torn down and might be torn down soon.

I think people would be willing to pay 10 Euros to support the concert, and something left of their culture, to rally around during the Christmas season. Also, he should negotiate with the venue, tell them that 3000 Euros is better than 0 Euros (assuming that the hall will remain empty if there is no concert).

My parents are like most here (and everwhere), the are aware of whatever they say on the 8 o´clock news.

What is in the news, and the nightly talkshows, is that: What do we do now that we have a war criminal in the Kreml, who has illegally invaded a sovereign country is is committing crimes against humanity and genocide there. Just yesterday, the focus in a talkshow on TV was that we (Germany) need to work on becoming independent of Russia energy-wise, so that Russia cannot exert any power over us. I kid you not. The suggested solutions ranged from using wash cloths instead of showering, insulating our homes more so we use less heating costs, and, of course, renewable energy sources.

Interestingly, nobody talks about WHO did Nordstream any more, but everybody only discusses what we should do now.

I find myself agreeing simultaneously with Alice Weidel, the head of the AfD party, which many consider a far right political party, is under police observation just so they do not start wearing a swastika lapel pin in parliament (sarc) and with Sahra Wagenknecht, the leader of the opposite end of the political spectrum, head of the far left (kommunist) party, who said in her last speech in parliament that “Germany truly has the dumbest government in all of Europe”. Or did she say in all of history? Might as well.

I liked that one political journalist on TV yesterday who said that he think that what we will see is a nuclear destruction of the entire German industry, which is not only composed of automotive, but also to large extent chemical industries. He described how all industries now worldwide are intricately connected by trade routes, and that Germany´s biggest problem is not being able to obtain raw materials on the global market. For example, soon enough we will not be able to run our garbage incinerator facilities because some component of the air filters is currently not available.

The backbone of the German economy and industry has always been not only the large companies but first and foremost the medium sized and small businesses, built over decades by hard working men who put their life blood into these businesses. It is truly sad to see it all dissolve.

I do not spend much time watching TV or showing my parents youtube videos, so, no, they are not aware of a lot of what you mentioned.

Plus, when I said that the US has sabotaged the Nordstream pipeline and has basically declared war on Europe, their impression of me having a screw loose was confirmed once more.

Oh, one last thing that was mentioned on TV was that electricity costs in the US is $20 per Mw/h and 240 Euros per Mw/h in Germany. Is that true? In any case, they argued that that is one reason that German products are simply not competetive because too expensive on the global market.

Couple questions;

1) I’ve read that various polls done by German TV stations report that anywhere from 75% – 90% of Germans believe the USA is behind the NS sabotage.

— Can you confirm this?

— If true, does this change their opinion about America in any way at all? Or, are they still in BOHICA mode?

2) I’ve also read that just prior to the NS sabotage that thousands of Germans in several cities demonstrated against the oil sanctions against Russia, demanding an end to them. Would that be mostly the AfD people you mentioned above?

I have seen a report in a German newspaper of the exact same thing, that 80% of Germans think that the US is behind that.

My Mom thinks that America-good Russia-bad, so she cannot fathom that. My Dad, who is heavily influenced by what I have been saying in the last decade or two said on the first day to me: “That doesn´t make sense.” and the next day: “I think you are right, I think it was the US. I just read an article explaining exactly that and how the US is a country with the means and motive.” He is also the one who shares my views about the moon landings and 9/11. Speaking of the latter, I am going out for drinks with one of my best friends from high school tonight, probably until the wee hours of the morning when the sun rises, like we always used to party, and I will ask him for his opinion, too. He is also a handgun sports shooting champion, moon-landing-and 9/11-non-believer and politically far left leaning supporter, so it promises to be an interesting evening. I might need a lot of beers to survive it.

Same here. (Oops, ‘m’ here.)

My mother in Germany is beyond hope. She “follows closely what the ‘accredited’ German journalists in Moscow say” (accredited my German MSM of course) and believes in doing so she is looking at the other side of things as well.

I’d say the German automotive sector was on slow suicide course even before Covid, with their “all Electric” choices. But German chemistry, metallurgy, and machinery are getting knocked hard either directly or indirectly from energy costs.
I don’t have an exact number at hand, but any company paying 240 Euros per MWh probably considers themselves lucky, right now. Most small to middle sizes bakeries are hanging on by their fingernails currently, and many will probably close for good sometime this winter.
The fact that now even MSM is now full of ‘blackout-preparedness’ tips tells you it is practically guaranteed there will be rotating outages if not blackouts.

Are your parents aware of Trump’s warning to Germany about becoming captive to Russian gas or how he was ridiculed for it by the German delegation?

Orange man bad is not in the news here any more. If you asked them about Trump, they would tell you that their only hope is that a vain liar like that will not occupy the White House again.

My old Lutheran congregation in NYC is almost empty now. Thankfully they have a very large bank account and a few wealthy congregants that keep it going. It’s really sad to see.

Thanks for your observations.

My last remaining German relative died in a Berlin hospital in the middle of last month. I am glad she will not suffer through this winter. At 87 she lived the post war prosperity after being age 10 at war’s end as her family started over from losing everything. Her ex-husband’s widow and her good friend is handling her estate which consists of a 22-year-old car and an apartment full of mostly clothing. Thank goodness for her as Germany has inheritance laws where one who doesn’t deny the estate in 6 weeks from hearing about is responsible for the debts as well.

What’s it like in the US ( in two or three sentences)…

Well, the citizenry has become paranoid. Things are more contentious than any time outside the American Civil War. Lawlessness abounds.

I think you are right, but at the same time, life in the suburbs is not all that different from the way it always has been (in the US). It is all very difficult to put into words.

I agree, but that won’t last much longer. I’m in the ‘burbs for the first time in 51 years. It’s pretty much the same as when I was a child…with one exception…the paranoia. It’s that behavior that caused me to start packing heat. Paranoid people do unreasonable things. I carry my veto power on my belt.

Also, thanks for sharing your story. You’re brave to travel abroad in such times as these.

Sounds like ya got some big Cajones, (is defined as a large set of balls.)

Mr. S. Loka, Sir.

Walkin’ about like that? God Bless You!

Been some time.

Interior Tanks? #2 Fuel oil. Cheaper than #1, a MUST if tanks outside.

Vintage of equipment could be an issue, although Europe, in general, has been LIGHT YEARS ahead technology wise…’Variable’ this, ‘Variable’ that…

PAY someone proficient, WITH THE PROPER TEST INSTRUMENTS. ‘Electronic’ popular for quite sometime. LIQUID HOUR-GLASS lookin’/Rubber Tubing/metal sampling probe(s)/ “Vintage”, EXCEPTIONALLY ‘TRUE’.

From electrode spacing, burner assembly position in the ‘drawer’, draft over flame, cleanliness of the integral ‘Fan’, Drawer Fan/pump/motor coupling ‘Good’, (combustion air) PROPER NOZZLE. Angle, G.P.H. ,Hollow, Solid, Etc., (Flame style) ‘Air band’ adjustment, (Secondary Air)…LAST test, BEFORE callin’ it Good? It’s called ‘Smoke Spot’. AT OPERATING °. Like i said, been 2+ decades.

‘Bacharach’ ANYTHING prolly STILL ‘Gold Standard’ ‘Others’ Equal, memory an issue. Too.

Can’t imagine it WOULD NOT be 2-pipe oil supply/return to tanks, Literal ‘oil filter(s)’ there most likely. ‘Newer’ Have @ LEAST one solenoid, eliminated a multitude of issues.

If Some ‘Expert’ Adjusts ANYTHING by eye for a ‘clean burn’? NOT gonna bore ya with the technical details.

ANY TIME someone tells ya that they can ‘Adjust’ something/ANYTHING by Eye/Feel?

As politely as possible, of course…

‘GET the FUCK out of my house and don’t EVER think ’bout coming back, OR sending a Bill’

But i digress…

The SINGLE BIGGEST THING, ‘EFFICIENCY-Wise’? OUTSIDE AIR for Combustion. ANY furnace, OTHER than ‘Electric’. ANY is better than none. ‘State-of-the-art’, (Been ’round forever, ‘BASIS’ of the Franklin Stove) piped directly from outside to ‘boot’ on you furnace/burner, typically 4″ up to ‘X’ B.T.U. Weighted damper, MORE adjustments. AGAIN, everything should be at standard operating temp.

Bite The bullet. Have ‘Fireside’ Inspected/Cleaned. Soot is a GREAT insulator, lowers ‘Transmission Efficiency’ ta forced air side. Maybe Boiler/Radiant? Forced Air AHU may not apply.

IF ‘Forced Air’? (ANY F.A. Furnace) 1/8″ inch dirt/lint/etc. on Squirrel-cage fan can cut C.F.M as much as 50%. USE the SMALLEST Nozzle size on the attached nameplate. Electrostatic Air Cleaner/Filter w/pre-filters,? Gold Standard.

DO NOT let ANYONE sell ya a Deep ‘HEPA’ rated filter…”THE efficiency goes up as it gets dirty!” TRUE. Just like a sieve doesn’t leak as ya plug the holes….At this sales attempt?
“JUST AS GOOD AS ELECTROSTATIC, LOWER ‘UP-FRONT $$$!!! (price the replacement filter $-wise, where the avg. consumer is relegated ta buying ’em?)…”And ya Can stick yore M.E.R.V. rating up yore butt as well!”

‘Smallest Nozzle’? ‘STEADY STATE EFFICIENCY’ A valid term, but in actuality? IS the Holy Grail. (bigger Burners, like on a 200 BHP (Boiler Horse power) are infinitely adjustable, But even they have what is known as ‘Maximum Turn-Down Ratio’. 🤣 Soooo Many! Unpleasant Memories! Thank You! For Real.

In An ‘IDEAL’ World? The BURNER would be burning constantly, SOME ‘Variability’. Properly ‘Sized’, the house would be slightly cool/unable to ‘KEEP UP’ on the absolute coldest days. Don’t make ’em yet that i know about.

Perfect Time for a Fireplace.

Did i mention the high-Tech of the Franklin Stove? Applies there as well.

But alas, constant rude interruptions of my time here, people callin’ all hours of the night & Day! Opening doors, buyin’ me time-appropriate food, TOOK me Trout fishin’ @ a private Club even!, Just so i would put a sticker somewhere with my name on it! When i first got into this RACKET ‘Trade-Related vocation’, spent an inordinate amount of time looking for stickers that were impervious to the elements, UV degradation resistant, Superior adhesion characteristics. Etc. AND i didn’t charge enough. Purty many Failures ta boot.

Thankfully, with modern tech, Pictures can be swapped back and forth. ‘Marked Up’, Code articles can be highlighted, EZPZ. My Cards have ALWAYS Said: SAVE Money! PASS the 1st Time! FREE technical consultation by Phone/Email.

Now? ima lookin’ for an NEW App for my phone. EVERYBODY passes, No Questions Asked. Pricing is Somewhat variable though. Once i get the money? Activate the NEW App. Sticker INSTANTLY flutters ta the Ground, Bursts into flames. ‘Not To the Best Of My Recollection, Your Honor’.

Picked THAT line up from any number of Public, Duly Elected Humble Public Servants. AND the occasional CEO/CFO/COO/Other.

Now where was i? Oh Yeah…

And by the time i got back ‘Here’ ta Look For that article?

Well, It’s like the pipeline sabotaged by an autonomous ‘ORCA’ of the Winfrey Class accident…Deep Sixed. It’s way down the list, and hard to find individual posts. NOT many pics, my default mode.

JUST Recently i learned how ta half-assed ‘Work’ the whole screen-name, ‘Reply Alert’ thingy…Still forget ta put my ‘name’ sometimes, OR ta erase the extant ‘anonymous’ completely, hence the ‘anonon’ sometimes displayed.

Consider this a sincere Thank You for that tidbit ’bout the CC tip. Generally look forward ta reading Your postings. For a variety of reasons.

Great arcticle. I got fired from my job, but wasn’t surprised I had already packed up my stuff weeks before. I was putting effort into being an asshole to management(I won’t be walked on), but not an asshole to my work. I will always stand on my work and I’m proud of it. I will never work again. Currently bringing in zero(liar I won 10$ on the lotto last night). I don’t care what I have to do. But I will never work for anybody other than myself. I don’t have a business. And I really have no idea what I’m going to do. But after about 25 years of putting the best quality physical labour and effort, and passing knowledge onto others, that I could, I will never give anyone that again. I won’t pay taxes. I won’t make profit for a boss. Nothing. I get the feeling a lot of people feel the same. No matter what it’s a lost cause. Perhaps others will without seeing the whole picture say my situation is “fortunate”, but it’s really not. Crackheads are treated better. Anyways great slice of life. Thanks.

My favorite Germany factoid: If you are a Christian or Jew in Germany, you pay a church tax of 9% of your income tax to the govt, who then passes it along to the churches. You cannot avoid the tax if you are a church member. Muslims, etc., are exempt. The only way to avoid the tax is to leave the church, with a fee of course.

Interestingly, what country would have amongst the highest paid pastors in the world? Gee, i wonder.

You can’t make this stuff up.

My German experience isn’t really extensive, nor recent. But a few years ago, my general observation was that 1/2 the country was insane left, and the other half was middle of the road to conservative. They were fracturing. And it looks like the insane half are winning. It will be a cold, expensive winter.

German here, indeed it’s all about making people miserable. The mask insanity is openly admitted in the German MSM, but held up. Reporting some insanity… Don’t use diy mask exceptions on German trains, you may find yourself prosecuted, for deceiving with a false document. It doesn’t matter what the paper actually states, your using it. The mask exceptions were used for trouble from day one, even doctors offices were searched. We made a trip to the UK in summer. It depended on the direction of the flight, German government made masks mandatory on flights to Germany. Flew with the harp airline, they didn’t enforce the masks, only made sure everyone had one. ATM masks are not mandatory on flights anymore, because of the EU. Germany couldn’t hold the mandate up, other states don’t have it anymore. On the other hand, there’s a mandate on Fernverkehr Trains. Other public transportation is regulated by the fed states, there are mandates too. In Germany, the mask is known as being a “Gesslerhut”. Greet the hat, or else. In the bigger picture, trust in the institutions is demolished, this is going on at least a decade.

Thanks, Horst. I am aware of the police raids and searches at gunpoint of private homes of physicians who had written mask exemptions for their patients (some of the patients with asthma, lung diseases, heart ailments), like Dr. Carola Javid-Kistel and Dr. Paul Brandenburg and others (the latter also has his legally owned hunting rifles confiscated).

I am a physician, so me writing myself an exemption is not a forged document, it is, in fact, a doctor´s notice. The risk is to have my German license to practice revoked, like others have. It is a risk I am willing to take. We must all stand up now, when the risks are only paperwork, fines and bureaucratic hurdles.
