What if very clever and misleading selection bias rules most of those “studies”? E.g., they measure IQ in 5 yr olds. The group that drills their kids in math etc. will score higher than those who let their kids just play and don’t demand performance in every minute of life. That’s just one example.

On Christmas Eve of 1912 my great grandfather was run over and killed by a trolley while working as the bridge tender on the Chelsea Street lift bridge to East Boston. He was on his knees chipping ice off of the bridge’s locking mechanism. His back was to the trolley and it was snowing so the trolley made no sound and the driver was not using the bell as he was supposed to.
The court said it was his fault and because there wasn’t a thing as workmans comp his family became homless.
