Fatal mistake: Police go to wrong location, shoot and kill homeowner

A man has died after police in Georgia shot him in the neck while responding to a 911 call but going to the wrong location in a fatal case of mistaken identity.

Henry County Police were responding to a 911 call, Tuesday night, which reported gunshots, at a residence in Stockbridge. The caller also said they heard a woman crying for help but could not give an exact address.

Police arrived at the home of William Powell, 63, according to KTLA. He was armed with a handgun and was shot, by one of three police officers dispatched, after refusing to drop it.

Powell’s wife told WSB-TV2 Atlanta her husband thought they were intruders trying to get into the house.

The case is now being examined by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) who said that the 911 call indicates that the officers were at the wrong location, according to spokesman Scott Dutton as reported by AJC.com.

The GBI says Powell never fired his weapon. The officer who shot Powell is on paid administrative leave.

Powell was taken to the Atlanta Medical Center after the shooting and died there Thursday, according to his brother-in-law, Clifton Worn.

It’s Time To Blame Obamacare For Losing So Many Full-Time Jobs

Submitted by Edward Morrissey via The Fiscal Times,

Had a sinking feeling about the economy of late? It may not be your imagination. Economic indicators have flashed yellow for much of 2016, and the latest jobs report shows further depletion of the work force and a dearth of job creation. That trend, says one major bank, may be attributable to President Barack Obama’s signature legislation.

Last Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the worst jobs report in almost six years. The US economy only added 38,000 jobs, less than a tenth of the estimated 458,000 Americans who left the workforce. In fact, thanks to revisions made to the March and April reports, that exceeds the number of jobs created in the past three months (348,000) by more than 100,000. The workforce participation rate dropped back to 62.6 percent, near a 40-year low, and more than three full points below its level at the start of the recovery in June 2009 (65.7 percent).

A Recession Is Imminent, According To Albert Edwards

Albert Edwards of SocGen (Societe Generale SA (ADR) SCGLY 5.88% has held a bearish view for quite some time and on Friday released a new note to clients, which is merely a follow-up from previous bearish reports.

Edwards said in early January that the S&P 500 index could collapse by 75 percent to the 550 level. He followed up in April by saying that a “tidal wave” of corporate default is looming and this will propel the US into a recession.

As far back as 2013, Edwards predicted that the price of gold will surge to $10,000 an ounce, the S&P 500 index will bottom at around the 450 level and 10-year U.S. Treasury yields will trade at sub-1 percent.

Why Is This Time Different?

“In the aftermath of the latest, weaker than expected, nonfarm payroll data, economists are certainly more worried,” Business Insider quoted Edwards as saying in his latest research note. “The excellent folks at Advisor Perspectives highlight the Fed’s Labour Market Conditions Index as suggesting a recession is imminent (the cumulative peak is an average of nine months ahead of the start of recession and we are now four months beyond a peak.”

Edwards has been expecting an “Ice Age” for stocks since 2013, which would consist of a multi-decade downturn for stocks and financial assets. The “Ice Age” is also characterized by “lower lows and lower highs for nominal economic quantities,” driving a “re-rating of government bonds and the de-rating of equities.”

“The secular bear market only ends when cyclically adjusted valuation measures reach rock bottom (such as the Shiller PE on the bottom line),” he added in his note. “Each successive recession sees huge downturns, usually to new lower lows of both prices and valuations. That is why we reiterated our view early this year that in the coming recession the S&P will bottom at 550, a 75 percent decline from current levels.”

Bottom line, the equity market is heading into a “cold, dark, and damp” space, and only time will tell how accurate his forecast is.

You would think by now people would realize not all skin tight yoga pants are flattering. So who ya got in this “Who Wears it Better”, the baked-potato-booty or the Silver Surfer?

How is impersonating Elvis still a thing? Like, do kids under 25 even know who Elvis is? Or do they just assume he was some Vegas character?

Peace. Love. Buttcracks.

Isolated, Away From the City With Code and Debt Freedom

Do you want true freedom?

With the many restrictions imposed by modern life, especially in busy cities, it may take moving out into the wilderness in order to find true peace of mind.

Getting there is the hard part, as most of us are completely intertwined with life on the grid – connected to friends, family and employment and dependent on the food, energy and services made available.

It’s worth keeping mind that all these busy, on-grid problems, while important at the time, are ultimately unimportant.

It is all an illusion. And this man once again proves it by cutting all ties with his former life in the city, and cutting free, away from debt, away from codes and regulations and into the desolation of West Texas.

Everything is so simple here. I was busting my ass seven days a week just to pay all the bills for all the stuff I had. Now it’s pared down to one room; got a huge yard with all this land; you can’t see another house from my property, which is a big plus. There’s no – well, there’s very little stress out here. The only time I get stressed out here is when there’s a big storm, because the storms are scary out here in the desert.

Though there is plenty of beauty in this huge Western expanse, but there is little in the way of resources for growing food, establishing water or building shelter, among other comforts. Stores and even cell service is often quite sparse.

Canada’s Supreme Court Legalizes Some Sex Acts with Animals

Canada’s highest court has just ruled that some sex acts between humans and animals are legal.

ISTANBUL, TURKEY - FEBRUARY 5: Bayram Kozat, who used to shepherd sheep in Turkey's Malatya for the past 20 years, practices his job as a new dog walker in Istanbul, Turkey on February 5, 2016. While having difficult time taking seven dogs for a walk at once on the most crowded streets of Istanbul, he treats them like his children, and feels happy for doing a similar job like his Mardin days. In a quixotic ruling, the country’s high court ruled that a man who was on trial for raping and sexually exploiting his own daughters wasn’t guilty of “bestiality.” The man reportedly, “smeared peanut butter on the genitals of his victims and had the family dog lick it off while he videotaped the act.”

The convicted man took his case to the Canadian Supreme Court, demanding that the bestiality charge be nullified. In the end, the court agreed.

As a result of the rape case, the court ruled 7 to 1 that humans having sexual contact with animals is OK if there is no “penetration” involved in the act.

In its ruling, the court decided that the legislature had not clearly defined the terms in the country’s bestiality laws and the way the statute is written should be read to only outlaw animal penetration, whether that penetration is animal to human or vice versa.
