Korea Reunified?

Guest Post by Jeff Thomas

Korea reunited

The image above is of the Arch of Reunification in North Korea, located just south of Pyongyang. It was constructed in 2001 and features two women wearing traditional chosŏn-ot dresses, representing the two Koreas coming together.

The arch spans the highway that connects North and South Korea, except that, as can be seen… there are no vehicles on that highway.

So, why build a highway that doesn’t have a use?

Well, since the time of Kim Il Sung, there have been discussions to reunify the two Koreas.

To the Western mind, there would be two immediate questions: “Why do they want to reunify?” And, “What’s stopping them?”

Doug Casey on Peace in the Korean Peninsula

Via Casey Research

Justin’s note: An “Era of Peace” has begun.

That’s the news coming out of the Korean Peninsula. Two weeks ago, North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un and South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in held a historic peace talk at the North Korea–South Korea border.

It was the first such meeting in 11 years. And many people think it will bring an end to their longtime standoff.

I recently called Doug Casey to figure out what this means for the region and the rest of the world…

NOBEL PEACE PRIZE FOR TRUMP?

Obama won it for being elected. He then proceeded to ramp up the Afghan war, attack Libya, support a dictator taking over Egypt, armed Saudi Arabia in their demolishing of Yemen, and created ISIS and the Syrian war. All Trump did was broker a peace between two nations at war for the last 60 years.

Russian deputy foreign minister Igor Morgulov said on Monday that “an apocalyptic scenario of developments” on the Korean Peninsula is possible, but Russia hopes that a common sense would prevail among the involved parties.

A scenario of the apocalyptic development of the situation on the Korean Peninsula exists and we cannot turn our blind eye to it,” Morgulov said speaking at the opening of the eighth annual Asian Conference of the Valdai discussion club in Seoul. “I hope that a common sense, pragmatism and an instinct of self-preservation would prevail among our partners to exclude such negative scenario,” the Russian diplomat said, quoted by Russia’s Tass.

THIS DAY IN HISTORY – American troops arrive in Korea to partition the country – 1945

Via History.com

U.S. troops land in Korea to begin their postwar occupation of the southern part of that nation, almost exactly one month after Soviet troops had entered northern Korea to begin their own occupation. Although the U.S. and Soviet occupations were supposed to be temporary, the division of Korea quickly became permanent.

Is a Korean Missile Crisis Ahead?

Guest Post by Patrick J. Buchanan

To back up Defense Secretary “Mad Dog” Mattis’ warning last month, that the U.S. “remains steadfast in its commitment” to its allies, President Donald Trump is sending B-1 and B-52 bombers to Korea.

Some 300,000 South Korean and 15,000 U.S. troops have begun their annual Foal Eagle joint war exercises that run through April.

“The two sides are like two accelerating trains coming toward each other with neither side willing to give way,” says Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, “Are (they) really ready for a head-on collision?”

So it would seem.
