Mike Rowe: America’s Favorite Apprentice

Authored by Channaly Philipp via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

Mike Rowe, America’s perpetual apprentice, has been giving viewers a front-row seat to our country’s dirtiest jobs for nearly 20 years.

The episodes of his show, “Dirty Jobs,” are a veritable archive of the various icky substances in earthly existence—sludge, slime, gunk, and grime—that he’s either had to clean, wade through, extract, or pick away at, often in the dirtiest, hottest, and smelliest of conditions.

Encounters with the animal kingdom are a category unto themselves. Given the close degree of proximity, these engagements are unpredictable: Rowe has gotten bitten by some creatures—ostriches, catfish, snakes, sharks—and gotten up close and personal with others—such as beavers, which he’s had to sniff to determine their sex.

Lessons From Mike Rowe: There Is Dignity In Hard Work… And Opportunity

Via Blue State Conservative

There are currently 43 million people with outstanding student loans totaling $1.6 trillion. I said people because many borrowers are no longer students, and the chances are excellent that these same people are not working. There is a good chance these people wasted thousands of dollars on an education and degree with no future. The ROI on the money they borrowed is poor… very poor.

We have made a grave mistake with the current generation. We pushed the majority of Millennials and Gen-X to go to college. We preached the lie that the only way to a future of prosperity and security was to obtain a college degree. We could not have been more wrong. We neglected and downplayed the trades, which will be a decision that will haunt us for years. If you do not believe me, try to get a plumber, electrician, carpenter, or mechanic. Good luck.

Everyone Is Essential

Guest Post by John Stossel

Everyone Is Essential

Politicians have too much power over our lives.

Many used the pandemic as another excuse to take more.

Early on, politicians declared that they would decide who was “essential.” Everyone else was told to stay home.

Much of the economy stopped. Millions were laid off.

Then politicians relaxed the rules for industries that they deemed “essential.”

“You can’t just call somebody essential without implicitly suggesting that half the workforce is not essential,” points out Mike Rowe, host of the surprise hit TV series, “Dirty Jobs.”

Mike Rowe: Americans Are Realizing “The Price Of Safety Is Devastating”

Via ZeroHedge

More than a year after the coronavirus arrived in the United States, American are “starting to understand the importance of balance again,” Mike Rowe told “The Story” Friday.

Fox News’ Michael Quinlan reports on the ‘Dirty Jobs’ host’s reality check for all Americans:

“Several months ago, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said no measure, no matter how draconian, could be deemed unwise if it saves but a single life,” the “Six Degrees with Mike Rowe” host told Martha MacCallum.

“I got a lot of flak when he said that, because I said, ‘That is a safety-first way of thinking’, and deep down we’re not a safety-first society.”

“Now we’re starting to see the price of safety is devastating,” Rowe added.

“What is happening right now in the energy industry is really the thing that I think we ought to be focused on, because there feels to me, and feels to a lot of people I talk to on a day-to-day basis, like a concerted effort to wage a kind of war against energy. It’s not a war we can win, especially with regard to fossil fuels and all of the jobs that are wrapped up in that industry. I don’t mean to sound like an apologist, but I know of no greater investor in alternative energy than the fossil fuel industry.”

MacCallum brought the discussion back to the issue of safety, saying, “We’re a country that was built on risk-taking. We want to take wise risks, we don’t want to be reckless, but that element of being strong and fighting through is something that I think is such an American value.

“Risk is the only four-letter word that matters,” Rowe agreed.

“It impacts and informs every decision we make, from driving a car to walking around without a mask or wearing one mask or two masks.”

“We’re starting to see,” Rowe concluded, “if you elevate the business of staying alive to the very, very top of all things, then the only thing you’ll ever do is stay alive. You won’t go anywhere. You won’t try anything or build anything.”

Mike ‘Dirty Jobs’ Rowe Routs America’s School System: “We’re Obsessed With Credentialing, Not Education”

Via ZeroHedge

Almost exactly a year ago, Dirty Jobs’ Mike Rowe noted that many Americans are dissatisfied with their lives because they no longer appreciate the intrinsic value of work.

Additionally,  Rowe previously concluded, millions of reasonable people – Republicans and Democrats alike – are worried that our universities are doing a poor job of preparing students for the real world. They’re worried about activist professors, safe spaces, the rising cost of tuition, a growing contempt for history, a simmering disregard of the first amendment, and most recently the so-called ‘Varsity Blues’ scandal of systemic elite cheating into prestigious schools.

And on the heels of that, Mike Rowe slammed the system on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show last night, blasting Americans, and the American establishment for being “obsessed with credentialing, not education.”

Mike ‘Dirty Jobs’ Rowe Destroys Woman Who Wants Him Fired For Being “Ultra-Right Wing Conservative”

Authored by Derek Hunter via The Daily Caller,

TV host Mike Rowe is known for his measured, devastating take-downs of people who attack him or his work. He has perfected the art of subtly twisting the knife in the side of critics with calm, cool language.

This skill was on display Thursday when Rowe responded to a woman criticized his politics on Facebook.

Rowe narrates the show “How The Universe Works” on the Science Channel. The woman, Rebecca Bright, called Rowe an “anti-education, science doubting, ultra-right wing conservative” who should be fired.

“I love the show How the Universe Works, but I’m lost on how the producers and the Science Channel can allow anti-education, science doubting, ultra-right wing conservative Mike Rowe to narrate the show,” Bright wrote, according to Rowe. “There are countless scientists that should be hired for that, or actors, if you must, that believe in education and science that would sound great narrating the show, example: Morgan Freeman. Cancel this fools contract and get any of your scientists so often on the show to narrate it.

In his response, Rowe started off by exhibiting his knowledge of the subject of the show and killing Rebecca with kindness:

IS MIKE ROWE AN ANTI-INTELLECTUAL WHITE NATIONALIST?

Chuck Atkins post on Mike Rowe’s Facebook page:

“One of the tenants of white nationalism is that college educated people are academic elitests. Comment? No? I’m not surprised. You never take a political stand because you don’t want to alienate anybody. Its bad for business. I get it. But there is a current of anti intellectualism in this country – promoted by Republicans. Those people love you, and they think your initiative is their initiative. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is kickin our ass academically.”

Mike Rowe’s response:

Hi Chuck

Since we’re being candid, allow me to say how much I dislike your post. Everything about it annoys me – your smug and snarky tone, your appalling grammar, your complete lack of evidence to support your claims, and of course, the overarching logical fallacy that informs your entire position. What really bugs me though, is the fact that you’re not entirely wrong. It’s true; I haven’t shared any political opinions this week, in part anyway, because doing so might very well be “bad for business.”
