Went to the Wal Mart to get some more cheap ammo today. The lady said I better get all the 9mm I could now, because the government is buying it all, and it has resulted in no more shipments “until further notice”. So, I did some digging, and found this article. It may be a rumor, a tin-foil hat moment, but, if not, you better get out there and stock up now before it becomes unavailable and/or sold out, if you are so inclined. As the crazy preppers say “you can’t have too much ammo”, especially if the government doesn’t want you to have it. And remember, you heard it here first.

FYI: Government Buying Out All The 5.56 Military Surplus Ammo & Is Telling Ammo Dealers To Stop Selling To Their Vendors & Civilians.

Subject: Government buying out all the 5.56 Military surplus ammo and is telling ammo dealers to stop selling to their vendors and civilians.
I have been calling allot of ammo distributors and ALL of them are telling me that our government is all the 5.56-.223 cal military surplus ammo. And their also telling the ammo distributors stop selling the ammo to civilians and their vendors because the government is buying it all up from everyone they can. I have also spoken with theses ammo dealers and they told me that the 5.56 and .223 ammo is going way up in price.
For instance…I paid $149.00 for federal surplus 440 rounds of steal core and now at the gun show today it was selling for $440.00 for 420 rounds. I have checked and ALLOT of places online are out of the Military surplus ammo by federal. M193 and M855 SS109 ammo. I did find one place still carrying both these ammo’s and good prices still, but their the only place I could find. If interested let me know and Ill forward the info.
I was also told by the same ammo dealers that the government is going to buy all the 9mm and .45 ammo up, so hurry and buy while you can at the lower prices while still available. Guess if they won’t take our guns because they figure that there are some many out there, they will just buy all most popular military calibers. Can’t shoot a gun with no ammo…stock up now while you still can.
They also said the government will continue to purchase all the ammo through the presidential election and they will continue to until the president tells them to stop. And if obama gets reelected instead of rejected, you know he wont stop the purchasing of all the ammo mentioned above.

There are certainly some spot shortages. Find a local guy who does reloading and buy from him, in cash.
Better yet, learn how to reload the common stuff and invest in reloading equipment and supplies. It isn’t really all that expensive.
If you are going to stock, make sure you have a way to keep your ammo in a low humidity environment, and organized. We use ammo cans in which we put those humidity pack things that change color when saturated with water vapor. Recheck the cans on a every 6 month schedule.
You cannot have enough ammo, period. Without it your gun or rifle is just an expensive club.

I have been doing bidness with ammoman.com and I just checked his website for availability of common military cals. 5.56 mostly gone except for russian crap and some very expensive Federal. 7.62X51 gone. Over the last couple of yrs I have stocked up on really good German surplus 7.62 but now it’s totally gone. 50BMG: good luck with that! Eric always had really nice 50 cal AP from Argentina, 80s manufacture but it’s gone too. Sounds like out fucking govt is trying to corner the market on the popular stuff. First it was .40, now 9, 45, and 5.56? If true, this is not good. I’m sure some surplus can still be found at a good price, but like all commodities, the easy inexpensive stuff seems to be all gone. Ammoengine is an excellent source of info on this topic.

CONR to fly air defense exercise in preparation for NATO Summit
May 17, 2012
TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense (NORAD) Command Region fighters will be active prior to the NATO Summit preparing to protect the skies around Chicago.
Exercise Amalgam Virgo 12-NATO, a NORAD air defense exercise, will be held Friday in the greater Chicago area to allow interagency partners an opportunity to work collaboratively in this environment.
The Amalgam Virgo exercise comprises a series of training flights held in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Coast Guard, the NATO Summit Joint Operations Center and the Continental U.S. NORAD Region’s Eastern Air Defense Sector.
Residents in the Chicago area can expect flights to begin around 9 a.m. (CST), Friday, and continue for approximately two hours. Exercise Amalgam Virgo is designed to hone NORAD’s intercept and identification operations. Civil Air Patrol aircraft, Air National Guard C-21 aircraft, Air Force KC-135 tanker, Air Force F-16s, and a Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter will participate in the exercise.
“Providing the air defense for special security events like this year’s NATO Summit is a part of our day-to-day mission,” said Lt. Gen. Sid Clarke, Continental U.S. NORAD Region commander. “Our interagency partnerships are a key component to the air defense shield for events like this and the Amalgam Virgo exercise is an excellent opportunity for us to hone our air defense skills with all our interagency partners.”
These exercises are carefully planned and closely controlled to ensure the Continental U.S. NORAD Region’s rapid response capability. The Continental U.S. NORAD Region has conducted exercise flights of this nature throughout the U.S. since the start of Operation Noble Eagle, the command’s response to the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
During the NATO Summit, Air Force fighter jets will be on alert to enforce the Federal Aviation Administration’s Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) zone during the summit. Officials advise all aviators to check the Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS) as required with a special focus on TFRs.

I wouldn’t put it past our Kommander in Khief to coordinate through the DOJ to start buying up all the ammo. We’ve known about recent purchase orders for millions of .40 cal hollow points through multiple fed agencies. That’s not practice ammo. It accomplishes two goals, stockpiling, which the feds have been doing since 2008, including freeze dried food, and keeps it out of civilian hands, all without those pesky 2A activists being able to do anything about it.
The average citizen is going to be on their own during any civil unrest.
@HopeZK, DO NOT buy ANY reloaded ammo from ANYBODY. I learned this the hard way. I agree learning to reload, and stockpiling supplies is a valuable skill and commodity.
There are numerous factors that could be contributing to ammo shortages, whether real or perceived. I suspect the truth behind the unsubstantiated rumor posted by AWD is the feds purchase of .40 call JHP. It would stand to reason.
Be safe and be prepared.

It sure seems like the Feds are preparing for more than a NATO Summit. It seems like they are flexing their muscles to show the people who is boss. The U.S. Military is only supposed to be used against external threats to protect the country from attack. We are becoming a police state and the sheeple don’t even blink.

Persnickety says:
Much inaccuracy here. I’m hearing more and more untrue rumors about gun-related stuff these days.
5.56 / 223 ammo has had erratic supply since the “war on terror” began in late 2001, largely because of large orders for military (both US and many foreign) and police. The worst shortages were right around the 2008 election, and now we’re in the early stages of another shortage cycle. Most US military ammo is supplied by the Lake City plant, which they control. The vast majority of the civilian .223 does not meet any military or federal LE specification and would not be bought for military or LE agency use. I don’t buy into the idea of the government covertly buying the entire supply of ammo to limit its availability to civilians.
The military uses mostly 9mm and they don’t actually use that much of it. Most police agencies (local, state or federal) use .40 S&W, followed far behind by .45 ACP, .45 GAP, 357 SIG, and 9mm. I really doubt the 9mm shortage claims.
The simple fact is that .223 and 9mm are also among the most popular civilian calibers, so massive public buying has a major effect on available supply.
The DHS .40 S&W contract is a big one, but it’s also a 5-year requirements contract, and they aren’t obligated to buy the whole amount. And kids, the government practices with the same ammo they issue for shooting people, because (a) they get it for pennies more than the cheap FMJ because there is no marketing or liability insurance attached to it like for civilian sales, and (b) it’s not their money anyway, it’s yours, and they are happy to spend it.

Bruce says:
Could be that in addition to the government, everybody and his brother is buying up all the ammo and has been for quite some time. Old military surplus would surely run down or out sooner or later especially at the elevated demand for ammo that seems to keep growing.
And price? Things go up. Prices have been going up a lot lately even if demand is not a factor. A square of ordinary standard three tab shingle costs…………….$64. Yes $64 dollars! With the depressed new construction levels the main demand for three tab is repairs and damaged roofs covered by insurance. Certainly the demand for shingles is lower not higher. The price of things like 2×4′s and dry wall screws are about twice what they were just three or four years ago. And the demand for this stuff is lower than ever with new construction being on its ass.
Might be the FED counterfeit fiat fantasy bucks printed by the bail are having some effect on the price of ammo and everything else. But then I could be mistaken because the FED and The Obama administration said there is no inflation. But I’ll bet I’m closer to right than closer to wrong.
It could be that we are doomed and we are just seeing the tide go out before the big wave comes in. DOOM………………….the new normal.

TN Man “Fathers” 30 Kids But Can’t Support Any
(Knoxville, TN) Desmond Hatchett is pleading with the state of Tennessee to help him pay for child support.
With 30 kids, who could afford to pay child support?
Yes, 30 children by 11 different “baby mamas.”
Desmond explained how it all happened, well you know what we mean, “I had four kids in the same year. Twice.”
The children range in age from toddlers to 14 years old.
He was last in court in 2009, at which time he had 21 children.
That means he’s had at least 9 more children in the last 3 years.
Hatchett only has a minimum wage job, which means some of the moms receive as little as… $1.49 a month.

While I do believe something big and stupid is about to happen, I don’t know exactly what it is, but I want to know the answer to the one universal question: WHY?
I have heard from more than one source that DHS, EPA, IRS, SSA are all buying rounds. I have heard from only ONE source that the government does this once every election year. We should be looking for patterns people. Patterns can be behavioral, statistical, etc. If the gov’t is buying ammo, lets look at the last election year and determine if they did it then also.
If something is about to happen to all the ‘sheeple’ what is the reason. Not to imply that nothing is happening, (I SEE IT CLEAR) But who is the benefactor of suspicious event, and what would be the actual benefit? Loss of human lives would result in loss of tax revenue. Ive pondered many hours on this subject but cannot achieve any conclusions. I just want to hear all the reasons for controlling the world’s populace. What can possibly be the real benefit from this?

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I feel like it is time to rethink this topic.
My coworker went to Wal Mart yesterday to get ammo for her husband’s .22. There wasn’t a single case of ammo behind the counter. She asked the guy behind the desk why there wasn’t any ammo. He was quiet at first, but she coaxed out of him that a state trooper had come in at 8:00 every morning for a while and bought all of the ammo they had just shipped in. She then went to 2 other Wal Marts and a Dick’s Sporting Goods with the same exact results. The only place she could find ammo was a small private gun store. This place never had a lot of business before, but she had to wait in line for over two hours to get any ammo.
Eternal posted this link to refute the article initially:

My view is that there is an awful lot of:
1. Buying on spec to make some bucks in case guns and/or ammo become illegal.
2. Prepping by people who see ammo as useful for barter.
3. People buying ammo because they fear a societal collapse and want to be armed.

funny how everyone is buying as much ammo as they can and then ask why there is a shortage, in my area (AZ) I watched people a few months back buying pallets of ammo, now the stores have a 3 box limit and people bring a whole family in to buy as much as possible, its the horders that are making it hard to buy anything, hell, can’t find a AR rifle around here under 2k and they fly off the shelf, met a few people waiting for the stores to open that was just there to buy as many ARs as possible so they can try to resell after a possible ban,

The boat has sailed folks, the time to buy guns and ammo has largely passed. They will certainly never be inexpensive again, if even available at all.

I put up this post May, 2012. There was plenty of ammo available then. If you look at the comments, I caught shit for this post. Who’s laughing now? No ammo, you’re going to be somebody’s bitch before long. Not me. I warned you.
