So the question is, why do the Left and the Right insist on cohabitating with each other? Both the Left and the Right in this country have Battered Wife Syndrome. They are abused by their spouses, and they hate their spouses, but they are too afraid and uncertain to just get a divorce and go their separate ways. I have been reading alot more secession talk recently. By recently I mean since the 2A “disagreements”in Virginia came to the fore. Remains to be seen if anything comes of any of it, but it seems people are giving it some thought and discussion. That’s a step in the right direction IMO.
I agree. I think most of the secession talk related to Virginia and the 2nd Amendment is the proposal for many of the Virginia counties to secede from Virginia and join West Virginia. (There have been several posts on this subject at https://www.facebook.com/groups/PoliticalDivorce/ ). This is certainly a good idea, but ultimately it won’t do much good because it doesn’t solve anything at the national level, and it doesn’t even provide a long term solution at the state level because it doesn’t have a mechanism for preventing West Virginia from eventually turning blue just as Virginia recently turned blue. However, anything that gets people talking secession and causes them to understand that borders are not sacrosanct, and are not etched in stone or in the Bible is a good thing.

The demographic problem is precisely why secession is the only answer. With the red states being a separate country, we can control immigration to keep out anyone we want to, including people from the blue states. I sometimes see flippant comments (both here at TBP and other places) about building a wall around California or building a wall around New York to keep them from moving to other states, which is another common complaint – “Those damn Californians are moving to Texas and turning it blue”. Well, if California was a separate country, it wouldn’t be a flippant comment. It would just be normal border control, although we wouldn’t actually need a wall.

? this is deliberately misleading. actually, the left will not permit the right to leave. the left’s life consists of running and living off of everyone else’s, so there is no way they’ll tolerate any secession. this issue won’t be decided by secession, but by who wins.

However you are right that “it will be decided by who wins”. But the only way to define sides, and to achieve something that could be recognized as “winning”, is to define new borders and then declare independence. It is extremely unlikely that the federal government would try to use military force to prevent secession. But even if it did, we wouldn’t be any worse off than we will eventually be anyway, because sooner or later we are probably going to end up in a civil war anyhow if the problem doesn’t get resolved by secession. But the problem with a civil war without secession is that there won’t be any clear definition of sides, and no real organization of combatants, so it will just be useless chaos that will get a lot of people killed without actually solving anything. So the only way to solve the problem orderly is to define the new country to secede, then secede (declare independence). If cooler heads prevail, that will mostly be the end of it. If cooler heads don’t prevail, then it will get messy, but at least we will have a defined goal. So regardless of what happens, secession is a necessary early step, unless you enjoy being a battered spouse.
